So question, the most recent oneshot that Fujimoto did, Just Listen to the Song, is about
Him telling the Chainsaw Man fandom to maybe chill out a bit and just enjoy the series for what it is?

Gleaning the message "don't think too hard about the subtext sometimes a story has no deeper meaning" from the subtext would be pretty ironic

Oh wow I see we are going right back into it hard eh

It's not fair for me to gush about The Slayers, since I watched it on bootleg VHS in high school, but it's just so good. I can't wait for the whole gang to be assembled, or for some of the really, really dumb distractions of the week.

I only watched one episode of The Rolling Girls before stopping, because I knew I wanted to save it for a group watch. I love it, but I was definitely surprised when Zonugal picked it for the schedule. Also everyone thought it was going to be about roller derby, for some reason.

Megalobox...has a great soundtrack. The art style is a very cool choice. It's just a shame about everything else. I was bored, and that wasn't what I expected.

Last night at AniMenagerie we started our fifth season, which meant we watched the first two episodes of these shows:
    -- The Rolling Girls
    -- Megalobox
    -- Slayers

It seemed like there was quite a split between passions, as folks expressed that they loved two out of the three.

The Rolling Girls is going to take time for me personally to jump fully into, as I think some of us were expecting a standard road-trip film and we were instead treated to a Studio Trigger character fighting the Green Ranger. Still hoping for that road-trip!!

Megalobox fuckin' rules. Its OST slaps, the fact that its visually processed to look like a 90s anime is dope, and it lets me post Rocky gifs in our Discord chatroom while we watch it.

Slayers is a classic and I'm very happy to be able to finally see it. I'd had this show described as a true representation of D&D players, but wowza... I have had a Lina Inverse at every gaming table I have ever played.

Megalobox is extremely good. I should go back and actually finish watching season 2, it started pretty good and I just…stopped watching for some reason.

I really love Megalobox 2 and think it's a fair bit better than the first season, much slower burn in terms of action but the story it tells feels a lot more mature and thought out

He's both a much more contemporaneous figure, who had a long history of violence, who's international legacy is pretty mixed. He is inextricably tied to both the successes, failures, and crimes of Castro's government, and his global attempts at anti-colonialist crusade, both in Africa and South America, seemingly failed in large part due to his ideological dogmatism. His actual greatest lasting achievement was probably the Cuban education system, which became a great success.

Compare that to a two hundred something-year old royal consort wot got executed, who was just a scapegoat for a larger vicious and corrupt aristocracy, and it isn't like a hard choice for me to say, yeah, Che's the more controversial one. Like Mario Antoinette was not a saint, and likely not even a good person, but her legacy was a line she didn't say and an execution.

    Chapter 98, Chainsaw Man:
As wild and insane as it was, the story still feels very grounded and human. Mitaka's inner monologue is something I can see any disaffected teen saying, as well as her realization right before she dies.

Edit, also, we failed to learn from Part 1:
Don't open the door when the bell rings.

I liked MegaloBox season 1 okay but my opinion is that you'll only like it if you have a deep nostalgia for the 90s style of anime that its broadly homaging.

But even if you don't you should still watch MegaloBox season 1 so you can watch Megalobox season 2 which is one of the most improved season to season I've ever seen a show do. It becomes a pretty different show, it's pretty unique for what it is, and it's really, really great.

Megalobox is only 'homaging' 90s anime in the way 90s anime was reimagining anime from the 70s

It's all recursive, but ESPECIALLY considering its a 50 year anniversary project

I'm on summer vacation, so I used a chunk of today to sample a few anime I've never seen.

    Here are my findings:
-- Robotech (dubbed; Youtube): This show is toyetic and I can see why folks would enjoy it. It ended up feeling a bit wooden/stilted/slow in its narrative progression but ultimately I could see having this on in the background while painting Warhammer 40k miniatures.
-- Cat's Eye (subbed; PlutoTV): This show was fine but its art style, while nice, is a bit dull and ultimately left me wanting something with a bit more personality. This is basically an anime soap-opera and is the show I would watch late at night while I getting sad-drunk off cognac.
-- Lupin the Third: Part II (subbed & dubbed; Tubi/PlutoTV): The platonic model of a retro cartoon, this was great. Its presentation, artistically & narratively, is rather simplistic but this is the kind of show I could have on all the time. Very easy to enjoy, very easy to follow along with, very elemental.
-- Dirty Pair (subbed; PlutoTV): This show didn't even bother to really try to establish its characters, a bold tactic I can't fault it for executing. It easily has the most exciting world, presenting a wild aesthetic that immediately makes you want to play a TTRPG set within it. The two lead characters are great, their dynamic rocks. This show was great all around.
-- City Hunter (subbed; PlutoTV): Oh boy, this one... Folks weren't lying to me with their warnings cause this show's lead character is LECHEROUS. But... But! But if you can tolerate that, everything else about this show is fantastic. The animation is top-notch, the music is phenomenal, the story was easy to follow while also presenting a traditional action/cop narrative unburden by androids, magic, aliens, ect... This was my second favorite of the shows I watched this afternoon.
-- Kimagure Orange Road (subbed; Tubi/PlutoTV): And where City Hunter came in second, KOR easily stole first place. This show has style, charm, and spirit all coming straight from the heart. Its got characters I immediately liked, with vibrant personalities. Also, the main character's father is the anime-equivalent of how I currently look, so, big points there.

I largely agree, though with the caveat that Macross is a far better show than Robotech would have you believe.

Kimagure Orange Road has the best openings in just about anything, and it's not even close:

Phil is a character in Slayers that I did not appreciate nearly enough as a child. As I grew older I found the muscle wizard and his majestic Kindness to all creatures kick and Pacifist Crush to be some of the best dumb side things.
