Reigan is basically a headologist. He's a con man, but what he cons you to do is to have peace of mind. And when something's above his pay grade, there's Mob.

The funny thing is that Reigen isn't exactly a con artist at this point. Sure he's one at heart, and he is constantly dishonest, but he always fixes the problems he says he's going to fix.

    And his massages are legit

Oh boy. Bits of the prologue for Gundam: The Witch From Mercury are leaking out, including a 30s clip of the Gundam Lfrith's launch and...
said 30s includes our main character, currently 4 years old, proceeding to straight up merc 3 enemy mobile suits while she's cheerfully piloting the Lfrit and her mother's looking on in horror.

Sure is going to be a gundam series! The animation is looking crisp as hell too, even in this low quality. Very, very interested to see where this one goes.

(Though also i want like a billion dollars so i can just pay sunrise to make more IBO stuff)

Exactly. Most of his clients just need a way to chill, and he delivers.

Hey now, the Gundam Lfrit is VERY cool! It's got shield bits that also become drones or a rifle! This is awesome.

Not really. There's like a minute or two at the beginning where they go over the characters' histories in the other world, and then in the rest of the episode everyone just unnaturally exposits in their dialogue a bit to establish everybody's status quo.

Yu Yu Hakusho is so much a time capsule that I don't know how you Live Action it now, today

Like is it just a late 80s/early 90s period piece?

Yu yu Hakusho Japanese setting feels so integral to the show that I don't know how you translate it to America.

And I don't trust Netflix to keep it in Japan.

Sakamoto's done some pretty good stuff for tv and for Netflix, this is at the bare minimum a step above the death note or one piece adaptations, worst case it's like that fma adaptation

At least It seems like it is though? Every cast and crewmember announced so far is Japanese and it's even being produced over there.

You have a very narrow scope of adaptation then

Plenty of anime/manga have been adapted well, mostly in shojo/slice of life space but this guy specifically is behind the well regarded Erased adaptation

Worst case nowadays they're kinda mid like the jojo part 4 movie

I'd say that typically Japanese live action adaptations tend to be more faithful, but then you get stuff like the Attack on Titan movies which changed Erens name because... It was hard to say. So it depends. Stuff like the live action Death Note actually seemed to want it to be dramatic and gave a similar tone to the comic and anime, but rarely does that happen it seems.

So yes, Japanese FMA was prob better than what we'd get from a western movie studio but it also felt exactly what I expected; mostly faithful with janky effects

Specifically, action Shonen seem tough to adapt without looking dicey

One Piece is kinda too big to mess up so it seems they're swinging for the fences with the budget and sets, but YuYu Hakusho is gonna be effects intensive and probably isn't get that One Piece money

I do think this team has a proven track record with adaptations, we'll just see if they can make the genre shift and understand the budget constraints they have

What Netflix REALLY should be doing is hiring tokusatsu directors if they're gonna keep kneecapping the budgets for adaptations

YYH isn't all that special effects intensive in the early stuff though. Yusuke doesn't do much besides the Spirit Gun and even that's highly limited for a while. Up to the point with Genkai's tournament no one there had anything super flashy and complicated either. I'm not sure if the zombie bug flute arc was before or after that though. Inclined to say before but I don't remember if Kuwabara had his sword at Genkai's since he got it fighting that tiger demon I think.

Been a while, maybe I should reread YYH. From the very start where Yusuke gets killed to the very end when he beats Togoro and there is absolutely nothing else afterwards.

YYH is one of those things where I love it as it is but actually wish it got a reboot to go down a different path

I would love low stakes ghost detective stuff forever

His & Her Circumstances/Kare Kano would make a fantastic live action series.

My dream project is Fate/Zero, but that would take the heavens aligning perfectly to avoid it being a complete disaster.

Ideally, it'd have a multi-cultural cast, so you could get lots of different representation. Kiritsugu and Kotomine would be Japanese, while you could get British actors(or thereabouts) for anyone from the Clock Tower.
