Or could just go the Chernobyl route and cast everyone as whoever regardless of nationality, as long as they fit the role.

I do think this team has a proven track record with adaptations, we'll just see if they can make the genre shift and understand the budget constraints they have

What Netflix REALLY should be doing is hiring tokusatsu directors if they're gonna keep kneecapping the budgets for adaptations

Yeah, Toku CG is often janky as fuck (at least for the really big set pieces/monsters), but what they can pull off with a little bit of CG to spice things up, and some really clever practical effects on a budget? Fucking amazing.

Though sometimes you get the hilarious slipped through editing bits, like when you can see the tape that's holding Ankh's arm together, or just see the truck that the motorcycle is mounted on.

Also (Mild spoilers for Eva 3.0+1.0)
All the toku sound stage shots were extra great to see in that as a toku fan.

The Kenshin live action movies were various levels of good to real good.

Speed Racer is one of the best movies of all time, much less best anime adaptation.

Maybe, but the amazing staff who adapted the material and did all the choreography and filming don't have anything to do with that. So I feel like good adaptations can be done.

Sean Bean is in it? Which character dies right at the start of Saint Seya?

He'll be playing Kido, the character who is already dead by the time episode 1 of the show starts.

Saint Seiya is an anime I grew up with and loved, but I have no idea how you adapt that to live action and not have it look goofy.

It really doesn't shy away from that, for better or for worse. It has some VERY problematic stuff, be warned.

The OP is really good though, it nails the tone of the show.

I appreciate that it also occasionally lets the manga's ridiculous humor in, like liner notes saying "wait, how'd he get his arm back!?". The anime doesn't shy away from breaking the fourth wall.

Looking at that Fate Stay Night AU spinoff that's basically a slice of life, Cooking with Emiya, I realized the format can be applied to other properties where too many great characters are killed off or otherwise have major conflicts with each other.

Like, say, Fullmetal Alchemist. The Sins, Mustang and Hughes + the rest of that squad, Scar, Edward + Alphonse + Winry, all the Xing people, etc. Just chilling for whatever reason doing normal things with a splash of comedy. And now that I've voiced the thought I want it all the more.

Symphogear has this exact thing. Cooking manga starring Shirabe, and all the dead characters are alive.

If we're talking about pipe dreams, I kinda wonder what themes Naoki Urasawa can visit if he tries to adapt the Android Saga of Dragonball Z.

    - the cyclic nature of violence (time travel / vengeance)
    - Violence inherent in the life of a fighter (16, the Saiyans, Yamcha and Krillin)
    - fatherhood (Vegeta and Piccolo)
    - can Cell be reformed?
    - what is an Android? (Might be weak, since the Androids were formerly human, and this has been done in Pluto)

A father who loves his son and wants the best for him and is also a piece of shit who doesn't realize he's forcing his son into a lifestyle his son doesn't want.

Man when you think about it most of the Z Soldiers have their respective baggages to navel gaze about

    Goku - listed above
Gohan - power/responsibility, violence of bloodline, daddy issues
Piccolo - being the responsible father figure and watching the real dad fuck around, that whole deal with Kami
Krillin - Love, trolley problem in the form of Android 18
Yamcha - too powerful to not be a fighter, too weak to meaningfully contribute
Tien - okay I'm blanking out on him
    Vegeta - listed above
    Trunks - listed above
Bulma - being a normal human living alongside living nukes and being adjacent to the center of world crises, predestined families

It's Hoods. They've turned the corner recently, but they just flat out made weird-ass fetish porn for like the first five years they existed as a studio. Spit swapping is among the tamest thing they did of that era.

The weirdest, if you were wondering, was about a world where ninjas were judged by their breast size, and they could steal each other's breasts to make the biggest, strongest ninja breasts.

Tien and Yamcha are fairly similar, in that they generally aren't needed, but Tien is on the martial arts path for the sake of it, so he'll always improve even if it's not enough to put him on par with Saiyans. Yamcha is just a fuckboy that wants to get laid.

Wouldn't be surprised if Tien manages to crack Ultra Instinct, though.

Eh. I've always been leery of author fiat with Yamcha considering he seems to have taken the tack of making Yamcha into a playboy and cheater but also still deathly afraid of women like he has been since Dragon Ball. Something's not congruous there.
