I'd put My Dress-Up Darling in that category, because it's very good at maintaining the "wholesomely horny" attitude, making it clear that the characters are genuinely fond of each other.
I would put KLK as marginally better than I expected on this scale, not way better
I read the manga for awhile and stopped when I realized I didn't know why anyone was doing anything
Instead it was a generic "cute girls doing stuff after school" thing, except with some insanely expressive and funny animation and hilarious visual gags, which is how I learned that studio Doga Kobo really elevates anything it touches.
those things are left a little hollow so in the end it's mostly a decent fun high fantasy.
It's a lazy writing excuse mcguffin.
well, i don't think it will change the thrust of your criticism, but it is explained a little more than that. it's not that it's some mysterious force doing that to him, it's his Class/Race composition from the MMO that Isekai'd from into this new existence. and it doesn't make him do bad things, being undead his nature is not have the full range of human emotion so his emotions and empathy are inhibited with a literal magical debuff. the anime dramatizes this as the green light spell thing, but essentially he is a human "soul" that occupies an undead body that magically suppresses his emotions. a few times his emotions rile up and struggle against the suppression but mostly he has lost his empathy and humanity, which is why i also think it's a weakness because it doesn't explore this enough, and the true existential horror of it.
not really. it's super grounded and more..... boring. which many people like. but very little happens and it happens very slowly.
Bookworm is a slow burn 90% of the time, yes.

like, there is nothing in the text or the show to support this, but something about this adult lady running around in a child's body gives me Orphan vibes
Somehow... Tokyopop has returned.
But also that's just a laughably bad deal on its own merit
Long story short, Tokyopop held contests to find new creators with very bad terms (think: steal Penny Arcade from the creators level bad terms). Then the "winners" of that contest were often hurt by Tokyopop's very bad business dealings.

By the end of it I was slamming my hands on the table because I have questions in need of answers and I can't imagine it being anything but the CGI
This is me with DoroHeDoro
i was also expecting classroom of the elite to be much, much worse than it is, although s2 has taken a turn for making the protagonist completely unlikable so maybe it will fulfill its destiny
Also, mentions of Muteking made me go "hah, cute nickname for Ranking of Kings, I getcha".
Though apparently it's got some really iffy stuff around anti-Korean racism in how one group is portrayed? I'm not even going to pretend I understand that's as I just don't have the cultural context at all, but that part sucks

The bookworm teaches less literate people interesting modern science such as
The only reason Tokyopop coming back would be acceptable, is if they actually finished publishing the Initial D manga.
I dunno why the link copies like that but it is the most reputable source aggregating the discourse around it
WSJ lineup is looking real thin these days.
When I first watched re:ZERO, it was during a phase in my relationship with Sword Art Online where I hatewatched it and also things that looked similar to it.
The level of quality between SAO and re:ZERO is an ocean, especially with season 2, so that was an expectation well and truly exceeded.
He's both!
