That's the power fantasy that the main character will eventually sleep with his slaves not to be confused with the power fantasy that is just about sleeping with sex slaves.
back in my day when somebody got hit by a truck they just fucking died
Black Summoner is the other isekai slavery anime this season, the one that got expanded on "Summer Anime 2022 in a nutshell" was Isekai Meikyuu de Harem wo.
Back in my day, people got isekai'd by a pillar of light and/or magical summons, and we were happy with it!
I've made this joke before, but this is the exact plot of the book series Guardians of the Flame. They get sent into their own D&D campaign and immediately start a war against all slavers.
Tornados and a cupboard also work!
Isn't this the one that opens with a brutal scene, that Crunchyroll had to put CW on?
I kind of like Black Summoner because it's mostly just dumb battle manga junkfood, and I had kind of forgotten that Efil was a slave at first until it was brought up in here
But man that scene, and as a way of opening your first episode, is... woof. Jeez.
No, I'd say it maintains a backing of that kind of material consistently as the story goes on. That kind of stuff is baked into the backstory of every love interest in the series, for example. It's pretty gross!
I really liked the first episode, the second was fine, but after that, the writing has gotten quite bad. It feels like it's being pulled in multiple directions. One writer wants to just be cute girls, and the other wants a cyberpunk gunslinging thing, but neither is talking to the other.
(Ep 3 and 1 mainly)
So then we come to episode 3, and it does a total 180 on that. ACTUALLY, she was totally in the right and did nothing wrong. Why? Because her bosses are jerks and made a mistake too, and her teammates are also jerks, who are arrogant assholes and clowns. They DESERVE to be sucker punched because they're worse at everything and how dare they criticize her when they're garbage? Are you really Both Sides-ing this and ignoring the entire other half of the first episode?
Episode 4 and 5 are similarly headscratchers if you stop and think about pretty much literally anything that happened. That they had a whole episode about one of the characters wearing boxers and you can't just wear whatever you want, that's WRONG, is bad enough without all the supposedly genius plans that are plainly and obviously catastrophically idiotic. I've ranted enough about the show though.
Still better written than RWBY. I'm not that familiar with the original, but I've heard the writing was pretty dodgy. Still, from the third episode on, it's been painful. The third episode for the obvious reasons that they apparently tried to fit like five episodes into one. Then the fourth was almost literally that Spongebob meme.
Ruby: "Right."
Lady: "So in her dream world, she's going to be corrupted."
Ruby: "Right."
Lady: "So you need to find her in an exaggerated, corrupted, Persona world that's designed to imprison her with all the personal things that are twisting and corrupting her."
Ruby: "Right."
Lady: "So you see around you her entire dream world worshipping her domineering father and fascist imagery about obeying him everywhere."
Ruby: "Right."
...
Ruby: "I found you, but why are you so twisted and corrupted!? This makes no sense! I hate you because you're being so twisted and mean! And for no absolutely reason whatsoever!"
Not sure I'm keeping with that any further.
Since I'm already ranting, as for the rest of the new season...
I like that You0 Deco and Teppen!!!(etc) exist. They're off-kilter and more experimental, but the last couple episodes of both have been a little iffy. Teppen's most recent especially was... well...
It's far enough off the norm that I can appreciate that it was clearly going for something different, but goddamn, was it borderline unwatchable. And this is after an episode about crypto at that.
You0 Deco #05
Engage Kiss is also flirting with being good, if still too schlocky and fanservicey, but the protagonist is such a sad sack that the relationships are tough to buy into. Also, it really loves to spend entire thirds of its episodes on dudes in offices discussing logistics for some fucking reason.
Summer Time Render's recent episodes remain fantastic, though they really need to cool it with the new shadow powers all the time. I did end up binging the manga after the gym episode, so now I... know all the things. The rest of the show is gonna be a trip. Call of the Night is also pretty consistently well structured and has some good things to explore about relationships, particularly casual and regular dating, and the importance of communcating.
Gosh, what an exceptionally pretty film.
Yeah I only recently watched this one but it has the signage Kon flair that really makes you appreciate his storytelling style.
(guy that has only seen two satoshi kon movies)
Perfect Blue is uh, well I save it for later usually
Well, you're only missing one, and his show.
Goblin Slayer's greatest weakness is that it revels in the trauma, pretty much fetishizing it. Therefore making itself inaccessible to the majority of the audience, especially those who will want to see the above themes explored.
Such a shame, there's some great poignant moments but I never feel comfortable watching it and can never recommend it.
(Spoilers for a Koji Seo manga that ended years ago)
Yeah! And then their ghost worked as a Spirit Detective!
A+, highly recommended, ESPECIALLY over the films.
The most important question is what did you think of the squishy Frog phone.
This is a test. You can fail it.
I'll take two.
