Apparently bebop only aired like half it's episodes in Japan but, wether from western demand or whatever it still got tie in movie, video game, etc. And then the production staff went on to form Studio Bones which I mean, a huge powerhouse in the industry today

Keep in mind anime movies didn't come to the west in theaters back then unless it ended in -mon so I think the movie was probably mostly for JP audiences, but hey I could be wrong

Live action Death Note did cast Willem Dafoe as Ryuk, so that was fun at least.

I actually liked L as well, Light and the script were the big problems with Death Note live

I mean Death Note and Bebop both have huge fanbases even if the shows ended decades ago (both are ranked in the top 100 anime on MAL)

If anything have more rabid fans is probably a downside as they'll be ever more critical if they get it wrong

Bebop has like no fanbase in Japan its a thing solely based on the US release.

Death Note was a weird situation where I think they wanted something different from the Japanese live action movies and got

    That.

Well, they got LaKeith Stanfield and Willem Dafoe, so it wasn't all bad.

Netflix Death Note would have been a lot better if they had gone the route of their Light being a loser and their Misa is the real villain who outsmarts everyone.

The Bebop movie specifically did come to US theaters, I saw it in one. I'm sure it made like... $10k all told for the US release, though.

So I've seen a lot of theories about the time skip between the prologue and the series, and whether or not Suletta is Eri or not. There have been a bunch of theories put forth, most of which involve Eri being Aerial now and Suletta is a clone or her leftover body with a new consciousness, or a person wholesale created with 100% Gund technology.

Some have hope that Suletta is Eri, and she got put into suspended animation or something at some point to explain her age.

But I just saw one that makes me want to rewatch the series and see if it holds up:

What if Lady Prospera is Eri? (edit: though offhand I can already think of two characters that at least believe Prospera is Elnora)
I'm pretty sure somebody calls Prospera Elnora in one episode.
it would also be really awkward because Propsera’s skin tone is the same as Elnora’s, not Eri’s. They don’t make a particularly big deal about it, but her dad is a brown dude named Nadim Samaya and both Eri and Suletta inherited that from him. So Eri suddenly becoming a white lady when older seems… kind of problematic?

I saw it recently when it came back to theaters and it was a treat. But yeah, I'm assuming unless you lived in LA or NY you didn't see it back at release.

Naw, they played it in the sticks too, just for like a day or two. This kind of thing was probably easier when Disney wasn't forcing theaters to show their movies a guaranteed x number of times per day or lose access to their whole catalog. At least there are dedicated efforts to let us see foreign stuff in a more organized way nowadays (for some reason, my theater completely passed on Decision to Leave despite showing Parasite willingly).

Bebop did hit theaters it was a limited release but it was treated as an art house type deal like Ghost in the shell.
Also the DVD case didn't fit with the series DVD release and it was fucking annoying

Not only that, but they still sell "Ultimate Cowboy Bebop" collections without the movie in it (because of rights issues, I'm sure), which is offensive imo. It's so ultimate, it's missing a major, excellent piece of content!

So I got all caught up on Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games, but volume 4 ends up with a lot of the characters mid-battle and I am too impatient to want to wait for the official release, so I "read" the japanese version, which, while I can't tell basically anything about what's going on where there's text, at least let me see which character had "1P Win" next to them or whatever.

And, while I may not know all that much about the history / lore of fighting games, I know enough to recognise that
about halfway through (chapter 24, I think), that's totally the Daigo / Justin EVO 37 full parry moment, right?

Hey, the Zeiram movie is pretty good. Great practical effects and suits. The anime was made after the movie as a prequel to it, though the plots don't really line up.

Additionally, Zeiram was directed by long time Toku great Keita Amemiya

What else has Amemiya done, you ask?

Well, served as designer and director on multiple episodes of Jetman:
