God damn someone made an entire Precure parody for a series that looks exactly like a regular Precure OP:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOc0c0euqVs
    That's very impressive.

It looks like you can watch it through the Funimation app but it does require a paid membership. That'll still likely be cheaper than buying it episode by episode on Apple TV, and you may find some other things you'd like to watch.

Its funny I only say random episodes of Lain as a kid but it's really resonating with younger folks now, I think it really predicted a lot of the dangers of the internet and is just a really insightful way into the ways technology connects us but also distances us from one another. It's pretty great even if it's fairly dark at times. I can see why people latch onto it.

Onimai did the exact same gag this season, with the early morning time in the top corner and everything.

Also I'm upset I can't watch Precure anymore, because every season now revolves around them taking care of an alien baby. This is all Decade's Shinzo Abe's fault!

One day I’ll remember that funimation and crunchyroll still don’t have the same catalog

The show is eerily prophetic, and Konaka's blogs on the making of the show are extremely fascinating.

Just dredged up a memory of something I used to watch quite a bit.
    https://youtu.be/lVQYMWrFaaM
It was from that time when sabban used to just buy random anime and show the episodes completely out of order.

Teknoman/Tekkaman Blade is the very first anime I ever watched!

It was airing on a before-school kids programme here in Australia when I was in primary school, and I watched the entire series start to finish with my brother before school every day

Well glad to hear someone else has heard of it, there's a couple shows I remember from my childhood that I feel like no one else in the world has ever heard of.

    EG:
    https://youtu.be/cTqnOb_yp0U

I know of Captain Star and his ship, the Boiling Hell, waiting for orders from Mission Control.

It's an ironic shame the lain author fell down the equivalent of a right wing, facebook, fox news rabbithole as the real internet matured. That digimon thing he wrote was an embarrassment.

Yeah, it's a black mark on what's still one of my favorite shows ever. I just try to tell myself he wasn't always a lunatic. He's been involved in a LOT of shows, including Princess Tutu(!), Magic User's Club, and of all things, The Big O.

It's very much a new season of the original anime, dosn't try to be a intro to the series for new viewers.

You'd have to watch the intro stuff, the Soul Society Arc, and probably about two thirds of the Arrancar stuff. How the arrancar stuff resolves and the fullbringer stuff are almost irrelevant though.

Some of the fullbringer stuff comes back later in the TYBW arc... in the manga, at least, I have no clue about how the anime's changed things.

Nothing super important, though. That series had some major cast bloat and Kubo deciding to bring back seemingly every single character he could think of was kind of baffling.

Kubo's said in interviews that when he doesn't know how to continue the story or end a fight, he does things like introduce a new character or go into someone's backstory. From how quickly the manga was wrapped up, it sounds like he stalled for time a little too often and people got tired of it.

Kubo never knows how to make a fight. It's ALWAYS "one side is winning completely... TWIST I was playing around, actually my concealed power is 10x more powerful and I took all those punches to the face on purpose, as a fun prank!" Repeat that two or three times.

    Latest Kanojo No Kanojo chapter
okay so great chapter, Naoya basically being like, yeah it's only fair if you wanted more partners too. And while I think they deliberately avoided her being into the idea, that's actually kinda true for some poly situations and once again shows some level of nuance that is refreshing for manga like this (again, still very much fanservice but it's trying and that gets points)

And then of course, as predicted, Shino is now officially apart of the roster now. Its only a matter of time before Mirika just gives up and he's dating all of them.

There was one point during the end of the Arrancar stuff where I swear like ten fights were happening at the same time and he would jump away to each one with every chapter and it would cover like five seconds of that fight, and it was the worst paced thing I've ever read.

Kubo's worst habit, imho, was this:
    1. Every arc adds at least one villain for every hero to fight one-on-one, with a bunch of extras to spare.
    2. A large chunk of those villains will make their way into the next arc to serve as heroes.
    3. Repeat until the cast bloats beyond all help.

Soul Society? Thirteen captains, thirteen vice-captains, and a bunch of third-rank dudes as well.
Arrancar? Ten espada, plus a bunch of minions. Some (vice-)captains return as villains, and the entire rest of the Soul Society crew return as heroes. Also, the eight Visoreds show up and add to the cast bloat.
XCution? Thankfully small in scale - seven villains, mostly just Ichigo as the main fighter.
TYBW? Literally an entire alphabet of Quincies, because there's like thirty Soul Society characters and they all need a 1v1 or 2v2 fight for some reason. The Visored and XCution characters also reappear, and there's five new important Shinigami, etc. etc.

I just watched the 2001 dub of Akira for the first time. For 30 years the only dub I'd seen was the 1988 one. Watched it with my partner who had never seen the movie.

The 2001 dub was so lifeless and boring. It felt like lines coming off of a script. My partner described it as the opposite of immersive. I flipped back and forth after with the original dub on and she said the voices sounded more interesting and like the actors cared.

Anyway, there's all that. They don't teach tact at the academy, after all.

man i remember as a teen buying the first airing of that new dub on pay-per-view, the first time i'd ever had a chance to see this weird formative thing the cool people would talk about, and all i could think about the whole time watching it was why does everybody sound like the guys from digimon

I have not seen the older dub, and I had thought the 2001 dub was fine at the time, but all the same, it's something to consider that the film was actually lip-synched to the Japanese dialogue and that's not the norm for anime.

I'm watching Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku, and I don't think I've ever related so much to an anime protagonist. She's got a new job and wants to get along with her coworkers but is afraid of them finding out she's a nerd while also hoping that some of them are, too. It's also just nice to watch an anime with adult characters with full-time jobs like most real adults.
