One thing that isn't speculative at all
Because... Yep, it's really not all that great!

no, the resolutions to the mysteries are good
it's the resolution to the story that is lacking, even though I can get what they were going for
Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.
You can literally trace this back to Tezuka and his trying to make the financials of TV animation work, where he "balanced" the budgets on the back of the staff and set up a tradition that is going strong decades later.
well, kinda
theres also the whole colonizing oppressive millitary hegemony too

Should probably clarify that this is about the ending.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
it's actually about how re-litigating the 2016 election constantly is productive and good
simple mistake
this suite is so good

Big ending spoiler.
"Conflict between people will never end. But.. if they see us all together like this, surely they would want to know. What we experienced. Why the very same people who were at each others throats not long ago..are now coming together to Paradis, to appeal for peace? We must tell them the truth of that story, which unfolded before our very eyes."
And then it has a personal reflection bit with Mikasa before ending.

The Good Parts of Jack Sparrow possess the same spirit you find in Anisong.
I believe it's written by Shigemitsu Harada and illustrated by Takahiro Seguchi.
As for reading it as being pro-war or pro-nationalism I gotta be honest that I find that farcical. Like fuck the finale has literally all of the "heroes" of the story explicitly reject nationalism to try and do good for the greater world.
My partner came in a few episodes in and started laughing at them telling Amuro to eat, and I was like “they’re doing that to show how a group of civilian refuges is being constantly hounded by a hostile military force and the very few people able to fight to defend them are being run completely ragged with no real chance to rest or exist as people,” and I don’t know if thats me the buzzkill or the fault of cool giant robot show.
Anyway I forgot how depressing this show is. I probably haven’t watched it since the toonami era
I can only describe it as Car Macross. Now I want to watch whatever Macross film was animated on that level.
It is so sad that the studio went bankrupt when it flopped.
Look no further than Do You Remember Love.
(The Transformers 86 movie is basically a Macross movie too, given the studios that worked on it.)
Up to? Or through? Because 15 is my favorite episode of anything from like the last few years. Spectacularly put together episode.
Wait, Madhouse didn't go bankrupt. They have stuff coming out this year
like Redline even on the small screen borders on sensory overstimulation, now imagine that blown to theatrical proportions
They were sold off in 2011 when they were on the verge of bankruptcy, but I'm pretty sure it has much more to do with them absolutely bleeding talent, both from deaths and from a bunch of people splitting off to form their own studios (mostly Mappa).
Through!
General notes:
-An animated adaptation of the Pearl Harbor Descent! That's really cool!
-For those not in the know, this material is in the game as a text log only, then it was performed as a stage play in Japan only. In recent days, they've been releasing a manga adaptation. They've clearly decided to showcase this story more and more. I wonder if an Automata remake/remaster (no such plans have ever been announced, to be clear) might make this a playable part, similar to how Nier Replicant's remake/remaster added two major scenes.
-The Logic virus is an extremely relevant thing to keep in mind as the story continues.
-Command is looking pretty shifty, huh?
-The specific ending chosen for the post credits was hilarious.
Superfan/franchise commentary:
-The game has no machine gun or pistol weapons for you to play with, despite there being 40 total. Pod has a machine gun, but I just mean you can't ever use those guns we see the Resistance and now Androids using.
-So Anemone wasn't completely taken out of the timeline. She's exactly where she was supposed to be on the mission, with no changes. Including staying behind with Number 21. In the game's timeline, she kills 21 right before 21 goes insane from the Logic Virus, then seriously considers suicide herself, but then decides to at least go get killed in combat. She runs outside to get mowed down, but then the server is destroyed and she's left alive. So... did that still happen in the show? Will we see Anemone some place else? So far, this is the most impactful change to the show vs game.
-We don't know for a fact Lily died in the game but... she almost certainly did.
-Psyched to see A2, hopefully she gets new show original material, since she's held back in the game almost completely until C/D routes (and even there, 9S still gets the lion's share of the story).
-The Pearl Harbor Descent's mission's real purpose was to field test new models in the worst possible conditions. They wanted to see what they were capable of when pushed to the brink. How the mission played out was so obviously traitorous and evil that A2 is marked for death just for surviving to potentially tell the tale. The E model (aka, 2B) was created in order to kill friendly fire targets of necessity, in fact. I hope the Commander isn't portrayed too much as a tragic figure, she's freakin' heartless and has basically no excuse for any of this shit beyond "following orders", which... nuh uh.
-Pretty much a lock that we will see the end of the Pearl Harbor Descent mission in a later episode, from A2's perspective. I bet they'll introduce the Red Girls at that moment, which will have a much nicer build to their big arrival at the very end of the game.
-Adam mentions mackerel as he decides to give up on everything and go fishing. Mackerel of course being the fish so oily that attempting to eat it will kill an android stone dead, instantly.
