You got me curious, so
Hunter x Hunter is from 1998 but doesn't really count as a currently serialized manga, I guess - I think there's been talks about how they're still looking for a way to publish it that'll work with Togashi's health issues.
(it's a different situation from RuriDragon, which is also on hiatus due to mangaka health issues but still in the official lineup?)
Akane-Banashi is no joke one of the best comics on the market right now, and if you're not reading it, you're missing out

Also, of course, their online Jump Plus lineup has its own set of bangers with Chainsaw Man, Spy x Family, and IMHO Monster #8 but that one's a bit slow at the moment, Weekly Young Jump has Oshi no Ko, Ultra Jump has JoJo (Crazy Diamond's Demonic Heartbreak is really good, y'all)... Shueshia isn't exactly lacking for talent at the moment, I guess.
I haven't read it, but yeah it's on Jump+ and I hear it's good (if somewhat bizarre).
This all makes me pretty hopeful about a good adaptation.

Wait it is? Fuck I was enjoying it a lot, no wonder the last boss looking motherfucker just showed up out if nowhere and we faded out and back in to post everyone getting their shit wrecked.
Something is deeply diseased in shonen jump. They can't let anything run more than few months unless it is a megasuperultrahit.
This is terrible news. Gluna was a great protagonist, and the way the author depicted dynamic action was mesmerizing.
[...] better translate to DOT DOT DOT on screen. None of this just "Dot Dot" nonsense. The pregnant pauses contain so much of the humor in Frieren it's crazy.
Animation budget will be easy at least, everybody always has the same deadpan expression for every emotion
I understand if this is a startling revelation to some of you.
The problem is that Shueisha needs to realize that their audience has grown past its "traditional" definition, and their evaluation methods need to change. One would have thought that both Attack on Titan and the Editor of Death fiasco would have been wake up calls, but they seem to not be.
It's okay to call it Kaiju #8 as that is the official English title - kaiju is pretty much a loan word in English at this point.
What episode are you on?
I just finished the first season about 1 minute ago actually.
This reminded me that Yozakura Quartet has been "about to enter its final arc" for like 3 years now.
Aaand seems like it still is.
Which hasn't stopped him from starting something new.
...Which is a shounen thing about people with shoe based pun-based superpowers fighting immortal evil glove demons.
But at least it too has a hypersexual, exhibitionist nurse lady named Victor Frankenstein.
That's enough catching up on the wild life of Suzuhito Yasuda for today.
I mean, the opening kinda tells you pretty straight up, honestly.
Really? It's listed as Monster #8 on MangaPlus.
...Reading up on it, I guess Viz are simultaneously publishing it as Kaiju No. 8? Weird.
Two different translations, actually.
i mean let's be clear the author is also very clearly into that too
"Love a woman who can kick my ass."

I don't think they care much about the fanbase outside of Japan.
I read a lot of fan translated manga and people forget that something may be popular with a very small fanbase reading the manga (or through official channels with a likely larger western fanbase for things that have been licensed) in no way factors into whether or not in get cancelled by it's publisher in Japan.
Their insular Otaku base are the ones they make the most money from though.
"When I was in college a girl on a bike made me fall over as she was riding by. She then came back around on her bike to laugh at me. I was very happy."
It's more a problem that we're seeing in Western comics and other media as well - creators pander to an insular, toxic base, arguing that "they pay the bills!" while ignoring that if they would stop pandering to the geese, there is a much larger base they could make so much more money off of.
Wow! Hot anime lady!
Oh god yes. There's a lot of marvel stuff i acutally liek, but when the demand is i need to cough up upwards of 5 USD per issue, do this multiple times a week, then hope a crossover doesnt derail whatever series i'm reading etc...
Yeah, there's a reason i tend to only buy trades, and even then, rarely.
