So while watching the anime and catching up, I also keep up to date with the One Piece manga.

*Low whistle at the recent chapter.*

I've said it before and I'll say it again but, Baki looks to me like I imagine Jojo's Bizarre Adventure looks to normal people

Like the flavor of ridiculous body proportions and over-the-top but entirely earnest action sequences is essentially Jojo^2 (and especially early JoJo like parts 2 and 3)

Getting some strong Fullmetal Alchemist vibes here. Who could have ever thought that splitting off all your greed/desire into an individual might be a bad thing.

Too obvious. Lilith is also basically amoral, but has no desire, so she isn't a self-starter like York.

It's a shame, Kenshin is good. But also proceeds from the franchise directly go to the sex predator.

There's always the Nassau method at least.

Yeah I'm not talking about that. Spoilers for 1079 are out in the wild.

So it's the end of March and I've barely watched any anime this season.

    Eminence in Shadow
    Tomo-chan
    Iruma
    One Piece

Just haven't had time since Fire Emblem + Octopath Traveler came out. And now the Spring season is upon us. I'm going to be working through my backlog for quite a while.

E: Spring Season 2023 is also very busy! Wow, I just checked.

I picked up reading Call of the Night after the anime ended and no pun intended in went to a really dark place.

In happier news, latest Iruma-kun chapter is absolutely dazzling, art and story wise, but there's this persistent tension that's been building in the background for weeks that's hanging over everything.

I'm not sure I like Bofuri; it's definitely enjoyable, but there isn't enough content. The show has never met a montage it hasn't unnecessarily used; it's not quite an anime of "tell, don't show", but they're definitely leaving more on the floor than they should be.

Also the game they're all playing is ridonkulous.

From what I understand part of it is some weird idea in Japan that if you serve your sentence no matter how laughably tame that is you should be redeemed and the rest is Watsuki is basically why Oda has a job and he feels obligated to him.
And Im sure a bigger part is Shueshia paying their biggest creator to do PR for the guy who made one of their biggest multimedia franchises

Pierre Taki got patched out of Judgment and Kingdom Hearts III when he was arrested for cocaine possession.

The live action Saint Seiya movie, which still looks dire, is doing one smart thing.

They're releasing in Latin America first, even before Japan.

Now they need to get the original Spanish VO.

I don't know why Japan is harder on drugs than pedophiles but they are and its insane

The drug thing is a SEA thing. Singapore executed some drug traffickers last year, for example. China does similar. Sell meth get 'meth'. Huhuhu.

I mean consider the cultural impact of the opium trade, for starters. Keeping drugs out became a pretty high governmental priority in east asian countries for decades, and the punishments reflect that.

I suppose it's good that the artist is being consistent about a character with that stylized mouth with a distinct canine visual trope also having big canines when they do a full teeth-baring smile, but it's kind of a lot when you try to draw slightly less abstract tooth shapes like this lol

lucoa is a... weird and unfortunate case

the "joke" is that she is a queztlecoatl and thus a fertility deity that likes virgin sacrifices

it is not a very good joke

also, she isn't a lolicon , the author just does the 'joke' with shota because the author has some fucking awful tendencies that the anime tries to tone down

the rest is a largely wholesome queer found family comedy/slice of life

I recall a lot of weird sexualization with whoever the little girl dragon is.

It's one of a bunch of reasons I dropped the show. (I personally found the main relationship between the titular Dragon Maid and Kobayashi... not great.)

I wonder if Western media is as trope-laden as anime.

I mean I know American television and movies have their tropes.

But anime seems to fucking revel in repeating itself.

There's a ton of otherwise good anime where the author just couldn't resist the urge to insert their fetishes as often as possible. Makes me wonder if their editors just don't care or even encourage that sort of garbage.
