that's on you
it sure isn't! I like the queer found family parts a lot and I think the show is absolutely unrecommendable
Nier: Automata Ver1.1a episode 7
General notes:
-The King of the Forest arc. Like with the desert episode previously, they've added a tag-along character for 2B and 9S to bounce off of (Pascal this time).
-I appreciate the very stupid robot comedy that kicks this mission off, there's a risk of missing the element of how silly and cheesy Nier storylines can be (on purpose) with the very driven pacing of the show. I also don't feel it's out of character for the Machines though, they're doing a pantomime of things they've seen from human art. Like... they might literally be imitating comedy anime.
-Like the Carnival arc, they've maintained the geometry of the place, while deleting most of the gamey things you do there. This level is characterized by being ambushed by slightly tougher and more aggressive enemies than you're used to at this point in the game. In the show version, welp. I do feel what happened in this version is a good bit of characterization for A2.
-Game players will mostly note to themselves that A2 doesn't seem like a very enemy-ish enemy at this first meeting, the show has just forcefully moved that interpretation into the foreground.
Superfan/franchise commentary:
-In the game, Pod URGES you to attack, A2 will NOT strike first. Kind of similar to how Adam doesn't attack until you attack him first in that first battle with him. It was a smart twist for the show that she was trying to kill Pascal on sight and had no beef with 2B and 9S until they got in her way.
-Speaking of Pascal, that 'bad' ending in the game was a bit too lazy. No, the village androids are explicitly not a threat. That's kind of their whole deal, even as a joke bad end it doesn't work for me.
-The Little Sister plotline has been sort of remixed and redone with some fun new elements here. I wonder if 9S feels a little bit iffy about the brutal war crime he committed back at the Carnival after seeing all this.
-The Hidden Blacksmith is in this zone, so you see it a lot if you're on that grind to max out all the weapons. This is also the site of the last quest you will finish in the game (almost guaranteed), the "report data of hard to find enemies to another spotter android" quest from routes C/D. The rewards are not worth the required effort for that request, and I'm someone who considers interesting dialogue from completing the quest a worthwhile reward, if it's good enough. In the case of that quest, the spotter says "Cool data... Guess I'll die now!" Which is very Nier, but they could have reduced the requirements to just the enemies you would see normally. I guess it's not a Nier game if 100% completion didn't require finishing an idiotic sidequest for pitiful rewards, though.
Nier: Automata Ver1.1a episode 8
General notes:
-This is another episode 2 style slowed down mood piece. While that one left our protagonists behind, this one stuck with them as they got into some of the messing about you can do in the game. Fishing, collecting flowers, musing about the reason for existence, ya know, relaxing stuff.
-In the least subtle visual metaphor ever, 9S and 2B take off their blindfolds and then reconsider how their mission is going. 2B looks like she BADLY needs some eye drops.
-Lunar Tear sighting. 2B makes a strange fashion choice.
-Meanwhile, Jackass makes what I'm sure will be an extremely popular fashion choice.
-Lily has A2's back, I'm not sure how 2B will react to that, though.
-Jackass is a lot of fun in the show, I'm glad they're using her more often and in new places.
Superfan/franchise commentary:
-2B refuses to wear the Lunar Tear in her hair, which is a bit odd/funny considering that's exactly what you do in the game as an optional thing.
-In the game, one of the DLC arenas is right in this area, you can also fish out another Pod here, which makes you extremely more powerful. There's a shot of 2B and 9S jumping between two very specific buildings that made me smile a lot. Because in the game, you have to do a ridiculous flying long jump (literally hurling yourself forwards using Pod) to reach that first building that they're jumping off of, something that's never required anywhere else in the game. This is also a zone of PTSD, since the most agonizing scenes in the game for 2B happen right here.
-Are we skipping the entire Grun boss fight storyline? It seems too expansive and exciting to do that, but 9S just got abducted by Adam, which will directly lead to the Copied City showdown where Adam dies. Maybe they'll leave 9S's fate up in the air and have 2B forced to react to the Grun situation without him? That seems bad though, since 9S puts his life on the line to save 2B, and losing that for no reason would be a shame.
-I LOVED the 9S going rogue part of the episode, it was done really well to increase the tension. 9S comes off more competent and interesting here than he does in most of routes A and B, imo.
-Part of the benefit of combining routes A and B is that it gives 2B the room to react in some way to the revelations that the player only gets in route B, when they're no longer playing as her and therefore no longer privy to her perspective. Will 2B openly refuse (or perhaps, try to defer till later on) what her job is supposed to be when 9S starts making these moves?
-The mackerel ending is easily one of my favorites, this was so good.
I haven't laughed that hard at a comic in a whiiiiile. SO RIDIC.
Tomo-chan was a highlight. Farming in Another World was cute. Unless hidive gets something nice next season I may drop it though.
Huh.
Horimiya is getting a second season, which is interesting cause the first season technically covered the entire manga up to the ending.
But it did that by heavily condensing and just skipping over a ton of the fluff/slice of life chapters, so it looks like season two is gonna be going back and adapting those?
Funny I watched that one not too long ago, was decent
IMO the plot ends at the proposal 40% of the way through, and it's wispy air for content the rest of the way to the end of the manga.
Kinda cool that they're going back to adapt it though, wonder how they're gonna frame it
The thing is… they’re real. Mangaka Takayuki Mizushina actually based the characters on real life Akita-area glassblower Komatsu and his dog Muco, friends of a friend.
So now the real Komatsu will often post updates about the real Muco:
Muco has very important work to do
I'm looking forward to the second season
Cause it seems like a pretty easy gig. I could come up with an Isekai in like five minutes.
For instance:
He wakes up in a world of sword and sorcery in a new body as - get this - A DRAGON! (This aint your grandpa's Isekai, kids)
And using his dragon magic he can transform into a human so he doesn't have to deal with any of the inconveniences that might be associated with being a dragon.
Also he's super OP because he's a dragon and also all the hot ladies love him.
Nobody steal this idea it's mine I'm gonna make THOUSANDS.
literally just slime with one less step
it'd sell millions
"You come at the king, you best not miss."
People have already made thousands with that exact premise. Not thousands of dollars/yen. Thousands of that exact light novel, from every flavor of monster from dragon to pink dragon to phoenix to sword to hat.
I may actually check it out
There already is an isekai about turning i to a dragon.
Also unsurprisingly its actually pretty good.
I'm so glad the gap between season 2 and 3 of re:ZERO isn't going to be as long as the gap between 1 and 2!
High school pregnancy in Weekly Shonen Jump?! So they got pregnant immediately after the rest of Mutsumi's siblings left for the time skip training.
The older girl twin Hifumi (means 1 2 3) dotes on the younger boy twin Alpha like Kyoichiro dotes on Mutsumi, though not as creepily. The younger boy is a genius who engenders jealousy in everyone around him, and the girl twin secretly punishes everyone who hurts her brother. Interesting dynamic.
Alpha also doesn't want to be a spy because it's dangerous, and he doesn't want Hifumi to pursue such a dangerous career for his sake.
New Aquarion coming.
Aquarion MOE.
Because of course it is.
