Yeeeah. When the person in question is an invulnerable demigod, and the 'need' is "I NEED to be able to pursue my hobby with minimal interruptions," I don't think a whole lot of self-sacrifice is required that justifies turning a blind eye to obvious evil you could prevent. Better to just frame the story so that's not even a thing that comes up and needs to be addressed, like most superhero things. Cure fucking cancer, Reed. Maybe invest a billion in affordable housing instead of an awesome collection of grappeling hooks to better punch muggers, Bruce.

E: Or, yeah. You can't save everybody, no matter how strong. Also a good lesson for heroes to learn from failure. But these stories are not interested in learning, nor failing.

Yeah, the morality gets a bit murky in a setting where the protagonist is chummy with the local deity and said deity has given the thumbs up to their plan.

There are more than enough of those in cheat power reincarnation things, out to mete vengeance using their cheat powers.

Fun is not the word I'd use to describe them.

Yeah, this one's protagonist is less "Evil Bastard" and more Nemona from Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. There is no thinking, only punch.

Morality discussions aside, she does spend quite a lot of time punching villains for someone claiming to not care about it.

The MC of Reborn a Squire is basically Goku, only interested in the biggest most difficult fights while being completely uninterested in solving the world's day-to-day ills.

No way. Being fiction does not make something above critique or judgement. It carries its own messages and morality, and if those are deleterious to other people and society in general, whether because it's misogynistic revenge porn, copaganda, racist slavery apologia, instagramming the Holocaust, whatever, it should absolutely be judged for doing so. Watch whatever you want, but the world would be a much better place if there were a lot less fiction out there romanticizing how cool sociopaths are.

I think a lot of shows about main characters who are kind of assholes can be very fun, but the show always has to be aware that their characters are assholes.

Just so long as they're charismatic assholes.

More Walter White and Tony Soprano than, say, Joffrey Baratheon.

SpyXFamily continues to be wonderful. It's the only anime where I don't actively wish violence on the child characters.

That said, Yuri fuckin sucks. In theory it's a fun character but his debut episode pushed it into creepy territory.

Other than that it's very fun.

I love how they ended with almost the exact same post-credits scene. Except this time they confirmed the theory I dismissed our girls are step-sisters. Which might put a bit of a hamper on their whole golf romance deal they got going on. Also, if you're gonna go the trouble of eugenics'ing the perfect golfer to make your company money maybe you shoulda found a way to fix the issue that presumably killed your husband.

Are we still talking about anime that are broadcast on tv or...

    Anyways.
I was trying to find a gif of the rainbow shot and it seems I missed in there some sort of implication that Amuro was secretly Aoi's dad? At least that's what people seem to think.

Okay from people talking it up in this thread I do know the basic set up for Oshi no Ko, and my initial thought was "wow that sounds incredibly weird but maybe it's less weird in practice."

Having watched the first episode, no, it's still incredibly weird. Don't get me wrong, the writing is good, but maaaaaaan it's weird. For obvious reasons I suspect it'll get less weird as the episodes go on since uh, no more babies, but man this first episode was so odd.

Oshi no Ko confused me a little at first 'cause I thought it was an episodic show.

But then I noticed the runtime was like an hour and twenty minutes so I was like, "Oh it's a film."

But no, apparently each episode is just... long.

I've never seen that done in anime before.

Im definitely talking about all those shows you hate the most and not this one in particular.

You should totally beat me up as if Im forgiving everything you hate though, dont let me stop you.

Im not a fan of every example just cos Im ok with this one. Im put off by all those others too. Im not discussing the entire genre. You are.

And no Im not going to fall down a slippery slope into raging right wing shit just cos I dont black and white shit. I know how to judge a work individually.

I don't know much about idol culture, but it seems to me like by the time her kids are actually old enough to do stuff, Ai herself will have aged out of the window for even being an idol.

So if they do too many more time skips, I'm not even sure where they're going with the story.

    Dongs anime update:

I have finished the kaguya manga. Here are my conclusions:

    1. Maki is the best
    2. Still not a big fan of Iino
    3. The big Shinomiya succession drama felt rushed and kind of unsatisfying. A lot of important plot points and characters we've never heard of before were introduced suddenly with an exposition dump. I did like the characters of the Shinomiya brothers and father, though, and I hope the anime reworks some of the upcoming seasons to set up the finale better. The Hayasaka kidnapping arc in particular could probably be rewritten for that purpose.

    4. I kind of didnt care for Ishigami's latter-series arc as much, and not just because i dont like Iino. I think it was too much of a retread of Shirogane's story, and it was irritating how he continued to be and behave like a kissless turbovirgin all the way to the end despite having significant romantic development. I think it would have been a more interesting story if he'd accepted the one-night stand with Tsubame, leaving him sexually fulfilled but romatically unfulfilled - in contrast to Shirogane, who at that point is romantically fulfilled but still kind of a turbovirgin.

    5. I know its because of Japanese media standards, but I'm really tired of titles that insist on spelling out that the underage characters aren't drinking alcohol, despite their behavior clearly being coded as drunk. Has any teenager ever willingly chosen to drink non-alcoholic liquor?

I definitely think the series peaked around the School Festival/Winter Break flashback arc.

There were still good chapters, but I think the decline started during the Hayasaka kidnapping arc.
