*homestuck exists*
Seriously lots of great stuff here! All of Rumiko Takahashi's stuff, some Junji Ito, and Yuu Watase! Basara!Black Dorohedoro, Flame of Recca, MAR, Nana! KEKKAISHI!!!!
There's some notable admissions but this will hopefully grow, and this is already an extremely strong first start!
I can't imagine this was written by ChatGPT because I feel like it would have probably done a better job.
So did they
I have not read Homestuck but I did listen to Homestuck Made This World
Rock Band DLC | GW:OttW - arrcd | WLD - Thortar
This show still owns
Not much Tsu so far this season, hopefully that changes soon, ribbit
especially when we could be spending more time hating demon instead
I love that it is like, wholesome cuteness. It's not saccharine, it's not infantilized, it's just some gosh darn wholesome kids trying their best and occasionally failing.
I suppose I'm going to finally have to learn to love their desktop browser interface.
Steam
K Manga launched
and is *dogshit*
I am shocked. Shocked!
Well not that shocked.
God the fuckin’ Barrel Plan, I love it.
It's ridiculously predatory from what I can gather. Really upsetting given this hits Witch Hat Atelier, which I was very excited about getting simulpub'd

Square’s US digital one is similar too and it’s just baffling
These people are publishers! Long established manga publishers, with multiple weekly and monthly print anthologies out regularly!
Just offer subscriptions! Regular subscriptions! It’s the one realm where subscription structures aren’t fucking bullshit; I want a steady supply of magazine, you publish a steady supply of content, I offer you a scheduled payment structure to ensure I get your content as it’s published.
I don’t want to buy weird fuckingn per chapter coins or someshit, I don’t want to be charged multiple times for a single chapter you split in three (Stares at Square-Enix), I just want to pay you for a periodical comic magazine subscription
Viz, and Shueisha and Shogakukan by extension, seem to have figured this out and such that they can even afford to maintain a giant back catalogue that would otherwise eat into their tankoban sales and it doesn’t seem that they’re using it as some kind of loss leader?
Some browsing on reddit indicates that this is the Done Thing in japan, and some of it is to do with payment processing and stuff.
...so frankly it just sounds like Japanese readers get gouged to fuck, creators get screwed, and these companies are just trying to move their stuff into wider market with zero effort -apperntly in K-Manga's case, VERY LITERALLY, as it's just a copy of an existing app they already use in japan (Same price structure, gatcha mechanics and everything else).
And while this is the anime/manga thread, i'm going to take this opprunity to scream about DC and Marvel doing similar crap. JUST LET ME HAVE A SUBSCPRITON YOU FUCKS. I like most of the x-books! Anything Jeb Mckay's been putting out recently is actually really good (no, seriously folks, go find his run on Moon Knight, it's great, touching, handles mental health extradionarly well, and Moon Knight is fantastic). Same with Al Ewing.
But nope, they want upwards of six fucking NZD per issue. YOU HAVE DISNEY MONEY YOU ASSHOLES. Pay your creators a ton! it's literally going to print you money in the long run!
It's immensely fucking frustrating, be this manga or western comics. Not even going to touch the frustration on the way Euro comics just do not get translated out there - There are some gems and i'd love to read more (Freaks Squeele had a bit of a weak ending, but was overall great and creative..)

So it really only hurts re-reading binges, and at like that point it's kinda fair, I should be thinking about getting physical copies (And if i had space/money, i'd be doing so!). If the subscription cost more, i'd probably want unlimited chapters - but as it is, the 100 chapters is very reasonble, especially in conjuction with the ability to download em for on-the-go reading without eating your mobile data.

Industry pull?
I'm going to imagine and hope that he's just never seen or referred to again, zero notes.
But fiction never has realistic orbital mechanics anyway, it's always airplanes in space. It's hard to wrap your head around without being a rocket scientist or playing kerbal space program.
So many series died to me for this.
The funniest thing is he wouldn't even fall to Earth. He'd just float in the barrel until he died. And then keep orbiting. Can't tell if that is better or worse than burning up.
HSMTW might genuinely be my favorite podcast of all time
I was also accidentally Michael Lutz's advisor on the history of how Tumblr anime fandoms grew into and out of the Homestuck fandom (mostly Hetalia on the former end, and Danganronpa on the latter end)
it turns out taking people with 1920s technology into space was a bad idea
yes
The two Viz subs are collectively $5/month. For a metric assload of content, the only restriction being the 100 chapter/day/sub limit which is reasonable. It is one of the best fucking deals in the industry, and I don't know why everyone else doesn't get it.
Given that Viz is Shueisha's American arm, that's to be expected.
