Gunbuster in english is weird! Like, the dub is good and all but it definitely took me a bit to adjust. Also despite uh, having them via ways, this is my first time watching the science lessons. Much like Noriko I retained none of it!

I gotta say though I was expecting this to be prettier though. Like it looks good but I guess I was expecting some sort of remaster effort even though none of the announcements I could find said they were doing that. I suspect this is the same video from the 2012 japanese blu ray release, so there's still some noise and the occasional jitter present. I eventually stopped noticing it.

I've said it before but I actually like the first anime adaptation of Trigun more than the manga.

There's an issue with the art in the Trigun manga where bullets, speed lines, and sound effects blend together and make it extremely hard to follow what's actually happening from panel to panel. It's seriously incoherent quite often, and I haven't seen many other action manga have this problem.

The live-action English-language Gundam movie that is set in the Universal Century, made as part of Gundam's 20th Anniversary celebration.

How good it is depends, I think, on how open a mind you have, and how much you enjoyed watching Sci-Fi Channel original programming.

The script and sets and general vibes feel very 90s Star Trek or Stargate SG-1, which has a campy appeal that is far from universal. The effects still hold up well for the era, IMO, and if the themes it digs into definitely engage with the ideas commonly considered by Gundam shows, even if it's a bit of a different spin on it.

It's also only 90 minutes so it's not like a huge time sink if you didn't especially care for it.

If they could find a way to assist artists drawing so they don't have to spend 120 hours a week per chapter, maybe, but the actual creation of original works should remain the domain of humans.

I was involved in fansub stuff a lifetime ago as all the big machine translators started coming out and it was galling to me how much people were willing to swallow completely mistranslated and pidgin English that only barely resembled the actual language, somehow coming up with tortured interpretations. Some tools, sure. Spelling and grammar checkers are guardrails and sanity checkers, but machine translators aren't really improving from what I've seen, just attempting to look more like English. It was worst in the light novel scene, but visual novels were plagued by it too. As image to text interpreters evolved, it's spread into manga too.

About the only community that I've seen truly push back on it as a whole has been the hentai doujin/manga group, which seems weird at first, but when you actually think about it, that's one of the places where the translation creators are massively funded by essentially dark money, a lot like the furry art scene. There is a genuine full fledged business in commissioning translations of things, and relatively few do it as 'fans' or whatever, and there's only like one or two official localization channels, which the self-published/doujin stuff doesn't really flow through well because of copyright issues.

I don't have a point here. Just rambling. It's depressing and disappointing in humanity, but machines doing the writing and translation has been a plague for a long while.

Heads up, but today's Oshi no Ko episode (episode 6) is fucking rough to watch, definitely deserving of a content warning for suicidal thoughts.
It's the Terrace House/Hana Kimura arc

I just finished watching it myself. They actually included the phone number/websites at the end for the Suicide Prevention Hotline.
I thought it was interesting how they did Akane's egosurfing. Different from a manga, where you can actually read everything, the tweets were posted pretty quickly in succession, but having them create a buzzing/interference noise like insects swarming was a good interpretation of the negative noise being created by all the hate.

Akane focused on all the people hating her, while ignoring/shutting out all the people who cared for her. Just incredibly true to life for people who struggle with these issues. I remember when I read it originally I was genuinely shocked Aqua managed to save her in time.

Looking at it, G-Savior is the supposedly the final entry in the UC? Maybe that's changed since what I'm reading is saying this. That's so weird.

technically reconguista takes place far, far later. and I have no idea if gaia gear is still in canon at all (edit: given that its supposed to happen twenty years before g-savior, probably not)

and there's turn-a, however that fits (or doesn't)

I beat Danganronpa 1&2, and just finished watching an LP of Ultra Despair Girls, so now I'm in the clear to watch the anime of Danganronpa 3! Aaa!

(I'm doing the alternating episodes, Future and Despair)

((what in the absolute fuck is happening here, holy shit))

Very underrated shows, I enjoyed them a lot. And boy they escalate fast.
