And the Japanese AoT movies while very silly were filmed on that abandoned island so it looked neat. I remember they changed some of the names like Levi because it was too hard for some of the actors to say?
wait are we talking about the Korean adaptation or the tie-in live action films also directed by Oshii
because I've been meaning to watch Red Spectacles for a hot minute tbh
I was surprised (but shouldn't have been after they telegraphed it so hard) that they literally did...
...during the tournament.
Looks like the tournament arc will be continuing into the next volume as well.
Also, here's a page of a character being salty about a loss:
Oshii's The Red Spectacles is a different story in the same setting as Jin-Roh.
Rock Band DLC | GW:OttW - arrcd | WLD - Thortar
okay yeah looking at the synopsis it sounds like it defangs the story completely
re: spoiler -- ah, thanks for confirming, it looks like I was right:
The ending here understands what the Manga missed, that the L vs Light dynamic was the strongest part of the story by far.

Illang is pretty good, yeah; there’s also a scene there that tips it’s hand at just how aware it is of being in conversation with the original, and exploring through narrative the way (fairy) tales are told, retold, shift and change for their audiences and their needs that I think is frankly really good. It’s not too in your face, but it’s there and I really appreciate the way they handle it.
Sadly it’s leaving, if not already left, Netflix now so no clue how to get ahold of it.
Edit:
@Mortal Sky as a heads up be aware that Red Spectacles veers wildly in tone; it’s definitely Oshii in Urusei Yatsura or Patlabor OVA/TV mode rather than his more serious mode. Not a knock but it’s definitely a lot more screwball than I expected for one of his features.*
Stray Dog is more in line with the slow, contemplative Oshii one might expect from his more popular/well known features
*incidentally watching this makes his take on GitS fascinating, because you can see how Oshii would get tapped for adapting Shirow’s work given the similar tonal flexibility the two share, but Oshii includes pretty much none of the more lively, comedic side of the manga.
The Cosmos Troupe of the Takarazuka Revue will be performing a stage version of Casino Royale next month, with two showings scheduled for international, english subtitles streaming via Beyond LIVE:
Also it only includes the Bond show itself, none of the traditional Takarazuka performance stuff not necessarily related to the main show that goes on before or after. It's probably the best we've ever gotten, while also kinda sucking.
Amazon Lily has -alot- of puns. Also how about dem mushrooms?
this scene from the current episode made me literally spit out my drink, luckily it was water.
Anyway, thinking about the show earlier, I've come to the conclusion that I have no respect for any of the samurai.
They're all such Very Serious People, yet they're clearly just throwing their own lives away like brainwashed automatons so that their little turd of a Lord can maybe become immortal.
And I don't even know what Gabimaru's plan is. He'd probably have had an easier time trying to kill his way through the samurai than fight gods on that island. And even if he gets his pardon, he's still got an unkillable ninja lord standing between him and his wife.
I can kinda assume that Gabimaru expects full pardon not only for himself but also for his wife for completing the mission, and he prefers to do the mission because he prefers to just live in peace instead of being on the run for the rest of his life...
... but still, this entire mission is based on sending suicide squad of criminals, because if they suceed then that's great, and if they die, no one will mourn them, which is good... but then samurai are also sent with them, which is just throwing useful soldiers to almost certain deaths, defeating a purpose of sending suicide squad there
I mean, I know that shogun is shown to be a moron, but still, it's all very flimsy
also, uh, keep watching because there is more going on with the mission that isn't revealed yet
gabimaru is supposed to be 16
tiny criminal girl is like 13(yikes)
samurai captain man is 27
Then they wanna act like "five years ago" is ancient history, because if they went back any further their character would've been a literal baby.
like, squires didn't actually participate in fighting most of the time, so you weren't even taking part in actual combat until 21
peasant levies were a little younger, because the age of majority was around 16-18
Tales of Vesperia pulling that shit always makes me laugh.
"Mankind fought an apocalyptic war with the godbeasts who were afraid of our technology that ravaged the entire world, but we killed them all and banished them. Now they are completely forgotten and mankind thrives. Also, this happened ten years ago."
It is utterly inexplicable that he has kids.

Seems to me if Gabimaru can get to that legendary elixir, it would put him at least on an equal footing with the immortal ninja chief, and possibly the journey would also teach him some kind of way to negate the elixir's effects, which would give him the upper hand on the immortal ninja chief.
Hitomi, Van, Millerna, and Dilandou are all 15.
Allen is 21.
Folken's an old man at 25.
Merle is 13.
The movie version seemed a little better where everyone's age was adjusted up a few years.
