He, his wife, and their dog were found dead in their home near Santa Fe.

The place where I saw this article posted has people guessing that CO2 poisoning was the culprit. Pretty sad way to go if that's the case.

Very tragic. Sounds like his wife needed more help than she was getting though, taking care of him with alzheimers as well as 3 dogs.

There'd been reports she'd been real distant and non-communicative with her family for several months starting late last summer. Don't know if she went off the grid due to her plate getting too full or something else.

Even with causes of death known, still lots of question marks looming over things.

I don't know how much use it is digging into them though. It sounds mostly like it was some old people in a position where they were having to make very tough and stressful decisions in their lives, perhaps not wanting to feel like things were as hard as they were yet, and a really tragic freak virus hit when they were in a position of weakness and robbed them of any opportunity to adjust their situation.

My personal takeaway - check in on your loved ones. Even if you are physically distant, regular communication can help alert you to changes. You don't have the power to stop the progress of time, but you can be involved and try to make the best of tough situations.
