How did it get so high?

I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy?

Geddy Lee absolutely speaks like a normal guy.
His singing voice came from trying to imitate Robert Plant.

    Geth, close the thread.

I blame the priests of the Temples of Syrinx, whose great computers fill these hallowed halls.

He's got a fairly high speaking voice. Nothing unusual but on the high side for a man.

Is this the spot where I can wonder how the hell Spotify got the algorithm to make a random Pavement B-side 3x more popular than their only real hit?

when I was 14-15, I was friends with my alternative school math teacher (I was kinda a bad kid) and since I told him I listened to Modest Mouse, he gave me his copy of Slanted & Enchanted. He was so psyched to have someone to talk about Pavement with

he was cool, and he looked like when Shrek gets turned into a human

I went to go see Pavement a few years ago at Hopscotch in Raleigh and they were amazing.

Added bonus: The stage and the wristband pickup area were just in a plaza in the middle of town. So when we stopped by a few hours early to grab our wristbands, we also got to just stand there and watch them go through their sound check. Also amazing.

it's not necessarily just Spotify's algorithm - No Children is The Mountain Goats biggest song on there by a huge margin entirely because it went viral on TikTok

In this particular case, the order was reversed. It blew up on Spotify in 2017 and didn't become a TikTok song until 2020. I think the speculation is that when Spotify changed the metrics they used for recommendations, Harness Your Hopes just happened to land in the streams of people with any interest in indie rock and caught on (despite being an 18 year old cast off).

Pavement missed me entirely, but for some reason I was very into Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks for a couple years

Ok, no one dove into it, but how is it you know Geddy Lee? Are you in his fantasy baseball league or something?

No Children is definitely the Mountain Goats most well known song. It was even featured very prominently in Moral Orel
