And in the end, it'll depend on the population.

If we keep 1,000, getting 200+ votes of support would indeed be a task.

If we dwindle down to 300, getting 60 is going to be an easier task, even if it's proportionally the same. I wouldn't say it'd be easy, but if you can clear half the number, asking folks who have provided support to see if anyone else might be willing to add a mark would probably get a lot of the way there.

Basically, unless we keep the vast majority of the existing user base, a little organizing would go a long way.

if fewer than 20% of active members care enough to vote, then i'm okay saying it's not important enough to force the Board to review it

that doesn't mean the Board can't consider an idea anyway, this is just a threshold to require them to look at it

    Allegedly a voice of reason.

It's the original change dot org format. if you hit some threshold then barack obama is lawfully required to personally respond to your bring back duke nukem petition.

We don't need to bring ink and paper into this?

    For KD11, specifically:
"If a change is required to comply with United States federal or state law, or to comply with tax guidelines in order to avoid unnecessary tax burdens, the Board of Directors may institute the change without submitting it to the community for ratification."

I don't know if there's any appetite to include a notification period when such changes are made.

    Something like:
"If such a change is made, there will be a notification period to members of the impeding change equal to <the normal period of ratification> before any work starts towards implementing said change, unless such work must start to comply with tax guidelines, or such work must start due to imminent threat of legal action"
I'm just concerned about the current state of the United States federal legal system.

That's a reasonable concern. I think we want to ensure there's a ripcord, so to speak, that can still be pulled on zero notice just in case there's a serious legal/tax issue that has to be handled immediately, although I think in most cases it'd be best to provide as much notice as is reasonably feasible.

Hell, New Jersey, it said on the letter. Delivered without comment. So be it!

Just FYI but if you have any loan covenants or plan on release audited financial statements, you should consider using the accrual method instead of cash. Typically accrual is required

Was it ever decided where on CoRe this would live? I realize we're still moving in but it would be nice if the Community Feedback subforum (city hall? town square?) could go ahead and get stood up, just to exist

the processes for feedback on things like appeals and rules are still being worked on, but stuff like bug reports and forum feedback are in the Ticket Counter subforum. i assume these would also end up there (but that could change for some reason i'm not foreseeing)

Wait then are these KDs not ratified yet?

I believe MI said there were still 2 more KD's to ratify as a pair, and also there were some that were ratified with "To Be Determined" in place for some elements (like the appeals process), as I recall.

Per MI's OP - this has all been feedback voting and we'll ratify all the critical KDs at once at some future point:
This is another round for feedback and public opinion. The overall plan is to ratify ALL of the mission critical KDs at once into our Bylaws in a single ratification once we've gotten feedback on all of them and they're all in a place where we're confident that the community is satisfied with them. There are 7 KDs we consider MVPs.

the remaining KDs include the actual "how to complain" process

I feel we've demonstrated that we already have an unquestionable mastery of that skillset, so let's just checkmark that one as done.

So if that's not ratified, no one can complain, right?

    Right?

You know at the start of this process I would have told you that would be a bad thing. Now I think maybe we can give it a bit before we ratify that. Not a top priority.

Damn, if I'd known uncorking bottles of bourbon was part of being a board member, I would have thrown my hat in the ring.
