yeah I really don't think it matters entirely much at this point how D&D rules were concocted and applied (or at least not enough to make it a thing in the current thread). geebs is gone as are most of the others involved save one and we've already pretty well laid out how we want moderation to happen going forward at the new place

I spent a substantial amount of time on this process, because I felt it was important and deserved attention.

I read the candidate bios. I followed the Q&A in this thread. I followed the Q&A in the dedicated thread. I read through every response in Sir Fab's comprehensive spreadsheet. I read many endorsements and testimonials from other posters about the candidates. These did have an effect on where I placed my votes for candidates, so they were welcomed effort on your part. There's still probably 100s of posts I haven't read surrounding the election, but I think I've read enough, and it will have to be enough.

This whole process was the result of talented volunteers lending their time and professional experience, and I couldn't be prouder and more grateful to our community.

The rules in D&D under Jeffe's tenure were not uniformly enforced.

Jeffe has stated before that in his philosophy as moderator, "keeping the peace," that is to say, keeping the majority of posters placated, is more important than who is actually right about something.

Which very neatly explains why he would shut down minority posters who got heated when the "normal" posters were being indifferent or even outright hostile regarding minority groups.

Which explains why, when someone who is outspoken about issues in ways unpopular with the general consensus but does so following all the rules, new rules are put in place so that they can be punished for the crime of speaking unpopular truths.

Yes, under Geebs, D&D mods were explictly told that they couldn't enforce the rules on certain people/topics. That's why we had mods like Bogart come in and just make bold posts begging people to stop, and then punishing everyone by just locking threads universally, instead of actually dealing with any bad actors

I would ask you the source of that information? And if anyone else would care to verify the accuracy of it? Because unless something has gone very strange on this it would not be something you have first hand knowledge of.

From PMs with various active D&D mods at the time. I think I talked with most of them who weren't bogart and elki at one point or another

So it was from ElJeffe then? He has stated repeatedly that he was the only active D&D mod at the time. I just want to make sure I have the facts right here. I am still curious if anyone who was there can confirm. Second hand knowledge has limits.

This was while there were still other active mods, it was well before geebs went out for smokes and never came back the first time, even.

Well I will await confirmation or denial from other mods of the time. I do wonder why you dodged my direct question but that is ok. ElJeffe's own statements paint a picture on that one. Not that I think telling people something like that is super scandalous. I am just trying to make sure we get all of the facts straight.

I'm not going to dig through years old PMs to create a 20 page manifesto if that's what you're asking for.

But if we want to talk about mods doing shit to "maintain the peace", there's plenty of that going around with the current staff. In this very thread even.

Just say what you mean, please, instead of this vague stuff that only serves to stir up further drama...

I think something that would go a long way towards maintaining the peace is if you'd stop grasping at straws in a vain attempt to invalidate years of receipts indicating a pattern of abuse and harassment on Jeffe's part.

Especially since it makes you look really hypocritical when you apparently can't even produce a DM to back up your statement.

Gee, can't imagine why anyone would feel intimidated about sharing their experiences here.

I also saw it mentioned that the full results (anonymized by PIN so we can verify our own votes were captured correctly I think?) would be publicized so anyone could validate that STV was working and votes were transferred to new candidates as expected.

Is this the case / still the case?

I actually don't know if it is. We've only run the one non-secure election before we used the PIN/registration system, and there's obviously no PINs to track with that, so I don't know exactly what it surfaces with the secure election we've done. Will definitely share what it offers, though!

I have a hard time really getting to know more than 5 or 6 posters at a time since we are all just avatars. It's impossible for me to feel like I can wrap my head around all of the candidates, and because of this, I had no plans to vote. I decided to read through @Sir Fabulous's google doc anyway and my mind was changed. I was able to quickly identify 3 candidates with whom I felt strongly aligned. Once I had 3, I was committed. The 4th and 5th took more consideration, but I finally got 2 more that I would be comfortable getting my vote. I was unable to rank the other candidates beyond 5, which I regret. It has nothing to do with fitness for the job, only my comfort level putting my stamp on candidates I felt I could not fully understand.

Thank you, Sir Fabulous. I would highly encourage any poster with a similar mindset to at least read the doc, even just the questions that seem important to you, in the waning hours of the election. I am so thankful that I will always know that I put in my 2 cents for Coin Return's future.

Interesting...what would even be the raw data input for a Sankey of a Meek STV election?

For my two cents the best visualizations are probably the simplest:
    • A basic table indicating how many people voted for a given permutation of candidates
    • A series of horizontal bar charts, one per round. Give each winning candidate a color, then highlight where their surplus votes go each round.
