I started posting on this forum over two decades ago while in highschool. My eldest niece is about to enter high school next year. Which gives me some idea of just how far that distance is. The influences of discussions here have undoubtedly shaped me into who I am today. Arguably it led to the chain of events that caused me to meet my wife. It's a strange farewell that also isn't one, but bittersweet all the same. Goodbye PA. We'll always have Paris
2005 for me which nearly puts me in the half-life club, but I'm pretty sure I lurked earlier than that and may even have had a forgotten-about account so I'll claim it
I liked your posts moniker! thanks for makin them

Phorums. Early 2000s. Definitely after 9/11, which I learned was happening from the IGN forums.
Too long. Roughly half my life
Same, I started visiting in the "Phorums" days but didn't register till 2003. Honestly I thought for sure they'd shut this place down years and years ago, but hey, it just kept living on. Every other forum I used to go to has ceased to exist.
I joined after getting my first apartment / desktop, and finally realizing that you could just talk to other nerds about obscure videogames on the internet.
Being into weekly online comics at the time helped find the place. Some others at the time might have been Allancomics, White ninja, PBF and polkout.
Joined sometime in 2004 or 2005. My account was wiped in the last great forum crash of the pre-Vanilla days and reinstated in 2006, hence the later join date.
I think I joined because I was looking for a place to hang out after the Planet Age Of Mythology forums shut down. It's been a useful place to put down stuff that would otherwise have stayed in my head over two decades.

Similar story for me. I joined this and that videogame specific forum here and there. The only ones I remember were a Skies of Arcadia one, a Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri one and a Fire Emblem one that wasn't Serenes Forest.
I ended up joining this forum as a kind of generic all-videogame forum. And I've lingered here ever since.
2004 here. Lost an account somehow, don’t remember how. I’m 41, so that’s another of us with half a lifetime here.
These forums helped me a great deal when I went to rehab. Hard to believe that was a decade ago now. And then again when I lost my mother, then my father. The rest of the time I spent mostly laughing and learning.
Thank you all. See you at CoRe.

Oh, I lurked for ages, but then eventually made my account to join up with some urban dead shenanigans.
A website that didn't outlive here, due to some legal fuckery in the very normal united kingdom.
And then I just started meakin' poast in the D&D chat thread and that was that. I briefly spent time in G&T for the mass effect thread and SE++ for the homestuck thread, but mostly, just chat.
Let's see if CoRe works out...

21 years as of febuary; been here long enough to remember seeing when neocons weren't uncommon, The two threads about male circumcision (where I declared my hypothetical son would be as aerodynamic as his old man so that he would be able to dive bomb the little man in the canoe with as little drag as possible), the discussions on why anarchism is stupid, marvelled at the idiocy of objectivism... really there has been a breathaking number of silly threads in the forums.
I will miss this place to be sure, but I hope CoRe can be a forever home for me
If I remember correctly, I joined in 2006, in the lead-up to the launch of the Wii. I certainly wasn't expecting this place to have such a profound impact for the better on my social and political awareness and views.
Thanks, PA. I hope to see as many of you as possible over on CoRe.
I joined in 2004. Left in 2010 after looking back now was a particularly unpleasant yet in hindsight unsurprising interaction with moderation and especially Tube in PMs. Came back for what appears to be a single day in 2014 to be mad at Xillia for being a bad game, which I stand by, and then very late 2015 for Disgaea 5. To an alt that was on the email I still had access/remembered the password to that I think I was originally going to use for some Phalla , but who the fuck knows. It wasn't the first PA diaspora I was involved with.
But does anybody remember my One True Name? Probably. It's not like I've kept it a secret. I just didn't care enough to reclaim the other account, though it does have a unique avatar that I can never get back.

I joined in June 2003, maybe 2004 in my early teens. I was more of a regular in my teens and early 20s but I've always crept around as a lurker from time to time. I credit this place for forming my identity politically at least from the questionable blue collar conservative / basic liberal family I grew up from. I've had other influences to mold me since, but this is where I first had any real consciousness.
I'm 35 now, and I've had a forum account for longer than I haven't - I'll miss this place, but CoRe looks like it'll be a decent continuation. I look forward to seeing folks keep on keeping on.
Didn't make an account until 2010, but had been visiting the site and lurking since probably around 2000 or so. Never much of poster, but I've read so much stuff here that it's gonna be weird to say goodbye to it. Will be strange lurking a new forum after all this time.
@ElJeffe it was probably a passing moment in your life but it turned into a catalyst for me to get involved here, with the folks here. You're a good person.
Everyone in the Canada and other threads, thanks for all the good discussions. I wish we lived in a universe where stark contrasts in opinions didn't destroy relationships but here we are.
Like a bunch of us, I started lurking in 04 or 05, sign up in 2006. Would have liked to see my account hit 20 years, but eh well, vanilla would have likely totally imploded the forums by then anyhow.
Time sure flies! Been lurking since 2004, registered in 2007 for Phalla and Minecraft. Have fond memories of Rapture, Columbia, and Underdark. And been enjoying reading the discussions on D&D and SE++ ever since. See you all at CoRe!
2003 here. Ups and downs. This place helped me through some pretty awful times. CoRe continues the legacy, but it really feels like a piece of internet history is just going...poof.

Here’s to you, PA forums!
It's been a fun nearly-20 years! I've very much enjoyed talking with you all (mostly reading, tbf), and I hope to see you at CoRe.
