So, I've finally started taking a closer look at some of these digital distribution companies that are starting to pop up. I've gotten a bit accustomed to Steam, although my initial response to it was poor since I had dialup at the time.
I'm mostly just looking for some input, mainly in regards to Direct2Drive and GameTap. Each have some exclusive titles that I'm really interested in, such as Indigo Prophecy off of D2D, Sam & Max / Psychonauts off GT. Do either of these companies have overly intrusive content protection? Along the lines of StarForce (obviously aware of the fact that no disc is in use).
The only advice I can offer is don't get the D2D version of Oblivion. It can't even be patched up to the latest version, and many user mods aren't compatible with it.
D2D - Haven't used it, but have only heard bad things
Gametap - Awesome, but not really a for-keeps service, and kind of a resource hog. But once it's Vista compatible and I'm on a new PC, I'd probably sign up again.
I've used D2D a few times and have had no problems with them. Except one. I bought Oblivion from them, and I can't use any mod that actually modifies the exe. 99.99999% of mods are plugin files, but there's a script extender mod for that game that I can't use. So keep that in mind if you like to mod games.
