Are you telling me we think differently? How can this be?

Not particularly. But you and the majority of people do if you find it strange. People love violence.

And that seems strange to me. If it's not to you, great.

There's a big difference between fake violence and real violence. I wouldn't want to meet a person that couldn't see the difference because they are either going to murder me or be a very very sheltered person.

And real rape is different from fake rape, but wouldn't it be strange (and disturbing) to you if someone enjoyed it?

Anyways, I'm done with this discussion. It's strayed pretty far from the original question, which was more or less about how far gamers wish to take their evil characters in role-playing games.

Well I could say that rape is a form of a violence. An more extreme form at that, and a bit different from blowing someone up, but I wouldn't really know how to explain that in way that wouldn't be countered with "that isn't any different from someone exploding!". I guess it would be the whole emotional factor, and how you are torturing your victim. If you're doing your best not to kill something while doing the harm that you could, say blowing off their limbs so they couldn't move, then murder their family in front of them {we're talking about in context of a video game, movie, whatever}, then that would disturb me as much as someone enjoying virtual rape.

Honestly, I'm more disturbed by furries.

Man, you just reminded me how much I loved Soldier of Fortune 2's gore.

Incidentally, does 3 keep up the proud tradition? I haven't bothered trying it out, because I assume it sucks. Also, there is a SoF3, right? I really need to keep up with the times.

Would now be a good time to point out that Fallout 2 let you rape Miria if you weren't charismatic enough to get the dialogue leading to marrying her? Now, given that there's no description of the act, just dialogue you choose about undressing yourself and asserting that "you know you want it" beforehand, a fade to black, and then the entire town trying to lynch you shortly thereafter I once had to actually explain to one of my high school friends that it was rape and not a bug causing the town to hate you, but it was there.

I preferred the simple expedient of shooting her in the head. Simple solutions to complex problems got me through fallout quite handily.

    Never played them either.

I'm a deprived person. Most of the games I wanna play, I can't because I've never had a good enough video card.

Fallout could run in DOS, it didn't need any kind of decent video card. I played it back when it came out on a 4MB S3 Virge.

Previous Fallout titles featured an isometric perspective, turn-based gameplay (wherein your actions and their success are largely determined in-game stats), and a fairly open-ended adventure (while there were particular bits that were almost impossible to avoid, you could go about most tasks in a variety of ways, and do most things in any order you wished (or not do them at all).

This one seems to keep most of that gameplay intact while changing the perspective to 1st/3rd person, and shifting the gameplay to be less turn-based (but still largely based on stats, rather than player skill)

Actually, though they actually manage to look even worse than original Fallout compared to modern games, the Avernum and Geneforge games by Spiderweb Software share a lot of that sort of simple RPG elements, complex dialog options, and tactical combat bits that are turn based.

    Actually, a TC.

But if someone wanted to animate and code it, it would be in so fast. So fast

Really though, I just need something to get me excited for doing art again. I've been thinking of this mod for ages, and it would work great with fallout(Post apocalyptic fps/rpg mod :P)

Pre-ordered Fallout 3 CE and got a free poster (which is just a slightly enlarged version of the box art) and the soundtrack selection disc with the following tracks:

I don't want to set the world on fire - The Ink Spots
Way Back Home - Bob Crosby
Butcher Pete (part 1) - ???? (can't remember the artist)
    Fallout 3 theme
    Megaton

The 50's era music sounds absolutely brilliant and I can totally picture myself walking through the streets of DC listening to "Way Back Home." Also, "Butcher Pete" may be the most suggestive 50's song I have ever heard, about a butcher who's "hackin', wackin', and smackin' all the women's meat."

The major thing that worries me about Fallout 3 is the potential amount of bloom. NPCs in the 360 version of Oblivion practically glow. I just played about 30 minutes of it, because I needed an elder scrolls fix, and now I have a splitting headache. I really need a new video card so I can get a decent framerate on the PC, which has options to turn that shit off. Bloom is never good. There is no instance of it ever being good.

This picture should convey how my eyes feel right now.
    1208311283896.jpg

That kind of bloom only occurs when you're a fully fledged vampire out in the midday sun.

For those interested, if you pre-order at gamestop you get a pre-order bonus of a five song soundtrack CD, and a poster of The Brotherhood of Steel (which I think doubles as the game's box art).

    fallout_musiccd_sleeve-back1.jpg

Track list if the image doesn't show:

    1. I don't want to set the World on Fire - Ink Spots
    2. Way Back Home - Bob Crosby
    3. Butcher Pete (Part 1) - Roy Brown
    4. FO3 Soundtrack: Main Title
    5. FO3 Soundtrack: Megaton

Fallout's ambient background music is what made the game, not its main theme. You barely noticed it unless you paid attention, because it fit so well.

Then again, Morrowind has a great background theme, though Oblivion's is kind of in your face (still good, though)

There was one theme in FO/FO2 that sounded almost like the music in Full Metal Jacket where Pvt. Joker is going through the ruined building to get the female sniper. That one always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
