Basically I love joss sticks or incense or whatever you want to call it, I also love games, My 360 is on top of my desk as is my incense burner. Will any stray fumes cause damage?
it shouldn't -- smoke and the like generally will settle on electronics and will typically reduce the ability for those products to cool themselves (as air will be thicker, as well as settling on parts that typically disperse heat and becoming a thin insulating layer). Most of that is long-term, though, and it should not directly affect the device in question, especially in the short term.
Check the manual -- does it say "Do not smoke around this device"? The only thing I could see being weird is that some 360s have problems overheating, and whether smoke damage would void the warranty. if it doesn't void the warranty, then you should be fine -- both for it not causing problems (since that means they've likely tested it) or getting it fixed if you do run into problems with it overheating.
hmm seems like my suspisions have been confirmed, i guess it is best not to tempt fate especially with a macine with such a reputation, but i'd be alright if the 360 is underneath the desk and the burner on top right?
I'd think it would be fine. But something not directly related to your question, Get an Intercooler! It's only 20 dollars and the new design has stopped alot of the problems the old one had. I haven't had a problem with mine and it keeps it so much cooler than without.

It's still pulling power straight from the power supply, wasn't that the major problem in the first place?
