Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command marks the first time that the brutal, war-ravaged world of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 universe will be playable on the PSP. Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command features fast, action-packed combat through turn-based strategy and an engaging, authentic single-player storyline.

Gamers play as the elite Space Marines of the Ultramarines chapter and strive to combat the encroaching evil of the ruthless and daemonic influenced Chaos Space Marines through 13 cinematically-tied missions. With a robust multiplayer mode featuring 9 unique missions, gamers will team up and go head-to-head with other gamers worldwide as either the Imperium of Man or Chaos Space Marines, ensuring hours of unique replayability.

Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command will also fully utilize all the portable functionality of the PSP, bringing the Warhammer 40,000 universe to life on handheld.

* Compelling single player game consisting of 13 unique missions

* 9 unique multiplayer maps for Local or Global games, with small, medium and large map variants to cater for games from 2 to 8 players

* Fully destructible, real time 3D battlefields mean that no two games will be the same

* Pick from two Space Marine chapters or two Chaos Space Marine Legions to play as in

* Multiplayer games, in battles between Imperium vs. Imperium, Forces of Chaos vs. Forces of Chaos, or Imperium vs. Forces of Chaos

* Over 20 ranged and close combat weapons taken directly from the Warhammer 40,000 universe, including the Bolter, Plasma Gun, Chainsword and Power Fist

That's the press release for the PSP. No DS screens or info available yet as far as I'm aware.

A handheld, turn-based strategy game set inside the Warhammer 40,000 universe with online features may very well be the best thing.

Only 4 playable teams and no mention of Orkzes. For having 7 races in DOW was expecting some more playable armies.

That looks great, I'm interested to see how the ds version looks. While they're at it they should port that Ngage 40k advance wars lookalike game over to GBA.

They should port Pocket Kingdoms, too.

Only Space Marines and Chaos? Boo to that.
I'll still buy it, though. :(

If it was more multiplayer focused I would agree. As there does seem to be a single-player focus, though, I'd rather they didn't just try to shoehorn some other races in--it tends to make each battle extremely generic.

Rumours is that it's the same development team who did the N-Gage game that's working on this one.

    Turn Based 40k?

I've only played Dawn of War but I'm a sucker for Turn Based Strategy.

    Fuck yeah.

Yeah having only two races allows for an actual storyline, rather than the absurdity they have to create to allow 6 or 7 galactic powers to all happen to be on the same planet at the same time.

Yeah, considering most of the mega-campaigns aren't all that unique (I did love Armageddon, even if the ending was a bit of a cop-out), it's about time someone manned up and thought, "Hey, we can make a pretty good story out of this if we stop catering to every single bullet-point we can think of."

Well, I imagine that once the actual game engine is done, if the first game is a success, it should be easy for THQ to swap out 3d models and maps and create additional chapters using different species.

I'm just loving how they're promoting it. Play as imperium vs imperium or chaos vs chaos!

Has that kind of thing counted as a feature since mortal kombat? most people assume that as the norm.

Regardless, if it is the team that did the n-gage one then it should be pretty good, as thats a decent game. Nowhere as good as dawn of war, but an alright timewaster.

But why space marines and chaos? thats like having streetfighter 2 with just ryu and ken. BEFORE ken got the fire and stuff. They're really damned similar.

Why not orks? or Necrons or something? Give the sides a bit of strength/weakness to play off of. Space marines and chaos space marines shooting at each other with bolters is about as effective as elephants trying to beat each other to death with raisins and tends to makes fights kind of repetitive.

And a whole TWO chapters of each? They're Palette swaps! come on!

Still. Thats all just window dressing i guess. I'm hoping for a decent x-com style game, or one like those war-games on the n-gage whose name escapes me right now.

It feels strange that Relic would push for a product that isn't even on the PC or related to the DoW franchise.

I know it's pretty much a given now, but there's still that tiny possibility that it'll just be another DOW1 expansion.
