But I had to get a drug test. Of course, the test was scheduled for exactly a week after I got my wisdom teeth out. Bad planning on my part, i know, but once i realized the conflict it was too late.
Anywho, after the procedure i was put on Percoset for pain, a very similar drug to the one the company produces. I only took it the day i got the procedure done and suffered through with advil for the rest of the week. My oral surgeon gave me a note explaining why i might fail my test but told me that I'd probably pass cuz it takes about a week to leave your system.
So basically they were supposed to call me and confirm the drug test results and give me a start date on a Monday (they legally couldn't start me until it was confirmed clean) So Wednesday roles around and they still haven't called me. I'm starting to sweat 'cuz I'm thinking, rather than have to explain to they FDA why they hired a guy who failed his drug test by testing positive for the very substance being produced at the facility, these guys might just tell me never mind, no matter what my doctor's note said.
Finally on Thursday they call me and tell me i can start. Turns out the big delay was because the third party company that did the drug test added a new drug to the list that they test for: Ecstasy. Apparently the only lab that tests for it is out in Vegas (I'm on the east coast) so that's where they sent my urine.
So I got the job and I'm cool but for a while I thought I was gonna have to lose it after I was already offered it just because I had bad timing getting my wisdom teeth removed, which would've been a pretty shitty reason to lose a job before you even start.
I am looking for a job. I had a company interested in hiring me for some javascripting, then AT&T decided to rape the fuck out of Cingular and not let me have service for 3 fucking days.
I wasn't able to call in or out, and it would tell me I had voicemail but not let me listen to it, so I was never able to set up an appointment with them.
My roommate was hired by the company I currently work for and he told them they needed someone who was intelligent in their shipping department.
So they hired me.
Whoo.

For the past month, I've been on the hunt. 10 or so applications and 3 interviews. My most recent interview was two weeks ago, yet I didn't hear from them about my drug test results until today. Some bull about the lab being busy. Yeah, right.
I have orientation tomorrow, then training. Hopefully I start on Monday.
The job's at Waldbaums. It's only 10 minutes away. I don't really care where I work, as long as it has AC. My previous job at a water park sucked since it's, you know, outdoors. During the summer. And wearing some fruity shirt with flowers and fish didn't help to brighten my mood.
Yup, not phone support though, these people get a nice warm hopefully pleasant smelling body coming to their aid. The location is gravy too, right in times square...makes it really easy to take a nice relaxing lunch or hook up at a nice place after work for drinks and what have you.

My buddy is one of those IT geniuses, got his degree by the time he was 18 and has had job after job, each more lucrative than the last. At the moment he's settled being one of two IT trouble shooters for the Brisbane office of Pandemic Studios.
Basically he sits in a beautiful office all day, playing any game you can think of on any console you'd want to play, surfing the net or playing games on his quarterly upgraded, powerhouse computer, and maybe he'll get a call every couple hours to fix an email glitch or something, then go back to playing games.
He goes to their monthly "Beer and Pizza" nights, their monthly "Mega Gaming Tournaments" and has pretty much secured an eventual internal transfer to the LA office.

Hey dude. Just so you know, as long as the drugs are legal and prescribed, you'll never have any problem passing a drug test.
When a company does a urine test, generally what they do first is a "screener" test; they'll look for real generic, obvious things with a higher tolerance level, since it is a less sensitive test. So if you had been taking Percoset (sp?) then the screener test will probably turn up positive. However, if your screener test is positive, they'll apply a GC/MS test (Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry). These are extremely precise and sensitive, and will be able to figure out exactly what compounds were in your system. That is, they can distinguish between Percoset and whatever the illegal equivalent is. If they had found Percoset in your system, they'd probably have sat you down and said "We found this; can you explain it?" And in your case, you could have, and would have been fine.
The reason companies apply the less effective "screener" test is because it's way less expensive; that GC/MS shit costs a lot of cash, and so they only apply it if they really have to.
If anyone else has drug test questions, I'd be happy to take a shot at answering them
I was looking for something to do for the remaining bit of summer, since my fall term will involve me doing Stage Manager stuff. Mostly volunteer work right now to get some references.
Beach cleanup, Puppet Shows, teaching retards (that's probably not p.c.) to bowl, etc. Good times.
I envy those people who have some sort of grand life goal and don't just live paycheck to paycheck off some job they loathe. Or, at least, they do that while working towards their dreams. I WISH I HAD DREAMS.

Today is the last day of school. I should know within the week whether or not I will be this teacher's perminant replacement next fall.
I can't stand the waiting, I am keeping my options open.
You better not be complaining about getting paid to do nothing or imma slap you, boy.
That wasn't a complaint, that was me gloating!
I play WoW on the job!
How much does it pay, and if it's a lot can you get me a job?
You have to be a student of the University of Minnesota, and you only get paid like $8-9/hr.
but you do get 40 hours a week.
:^:
9.52 an hour here at UMN doing jack shit. I sit in an office and be bored and work the equivalent of 15 minutes on a fast day. Can't play games or WoW though or else I get yelled at for not representing the Language Center properly. I get paid way to much for what I do, and come August I'm gonna be getting a raise to over $10/hour.
In college, I worked for the university food store. instead of internetting all day, I got free smoothies and fro yo and yogurt and other food stuff and went on two smoke breaks an hour with the manager and goofed off with the people who worked there. It was nice not having to pay for groceries.
I'm gonna be trying to land my boss's position next year when I graduate and she leaves. It'll be around $15/hour and at a place I'm already familair with so I can take some time to relax after school. Plus 1 free class a semseter if I want.

If I hadn't gone on to graduate school, I totally would have taken a job working here full-time. Basically the only university jobs that are stressful in any way are (1) administrative jobs or (2) academic advising jobs. Anything else is cake.

We don't really do a whole lot.
there was no training at the tutoring place
i just teach the kids one on one there is no contact with my managers
they charge $55 an hour to see me and give me $20 of it
i don't know who can afford to go there

and you're not sure if you're applying for the same things, over and over again, messages piling up in the same HR inboxes
slowly making an enormous, contemptable fool of yourself in the eyes of the industry you so desperately aspire to
good times

WHats the worst that could happen? They fire you? Well, if with your credentials they weren't going to hire you what does it matter?
This is how I got hired at Comcast to sit on my ass and read forums while I was looking for a real job.
