This game is totally awesome. If you just pick all of the responses that sound dickish.
It's like
Sonic The Hedgehog : Be An Asshole to All those Annoying Animal Friends
If any game gives me dialouge options it's clear they want me to be a dick and I am happy to oblige.
Sonic can be a giant asshole in this and it's glorious. The only way he could be more of a jerk to people is if every dialogue option was replaced with YOU'RE TOO SLOWWWW!!!
Telling Tails to shut his mouth and stop reminding me to save is great.
So far my favorite line is him saying that Amy doesn't deserve to be happy ever.
I suddenly have an urge to buy this game.
I suddenly have the urge to buy this game and steal my brother's DS next time I'm at his apartment.
It's totally worth it just to be a complete asshole to Tails and Amy.
The sonic fanboy in me is going
The rest of me really wants to buy this now.

It seems only Ian Flynn can write good Sonic stories nowadays with Archie Sonic the Hedgehog being evidence.
I always feel proud having met Ian online years before he ever started at archie. Hell I bet I'm one of the only people here who even knows of his original sonic comic series, Other-M =P
Hiya.
Anyway, what's the normal retail price on this? I'd like to give it a spin.

Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!
The mere fact that you can make Sonic abuse his doofy friends makes me much more interested in this game. Especially if you can treat Big the Cat as badly as Tails or Amy.
Also, low difficulty is not necessarily a drawback for a portable game if you carpool or take the bus. You can't really afford to get too pissed off and shout things like "You cock-licking scrotum-sucking piece of worm-infested smelly yellow liquid baby diarrhea!" in such situations.

Are there any drawbacks to being an asshole to other people? Because even from the start it's hilarious.
All of Sonic's buddies are convinced he's facetious. Fuck you, he's not and he hates your guts.
The reviews I read made it sound like it doesn't really matter what you say to your party, is that the case? It's kind of lame if you can tell Tails to shut the hell up and 5 minutes later he's talking again.

To be fair, Tails is a hair away from having a starring role in Of Mice and Men.

I would be very happy to hear some opinions on the game. I've heard everything from "not worth your time" to "better than Super Mario RPG" so I'm very interested.
I've only played it for a little bit, but I can safely say it's not better then SMRPG. It's pretty fun if you like Sonic and RPGs. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like either of them.

Thanks to this thread i picked this up today, lets hope it's as good as it seems

It is almost as good as SMRPG but falls a little short of that level.
It is still a fun game and a good rpg especially if you either love the sonic world or hate it. Also there aren't many drawbacks to being a total cockwad as far as I've seen. There are a few times where you obviously miss out on a quest by being a dick but those are few and far between and usually only for the short sidequests.
I'm enjoying the game so far, but the fighting mechanics are a little annoying to me, and the sound and music are absolutely awful. In addition, moving around the world isn't very fluid at all (I'm not sure why, I can't put my finger on it).
How's the writing in this game? One of SMRPG's biggest draws was its great character dialogue, and the latest batch of Sonic games have led me to believe that the genre is anathema to that sort of talk, Bioware or no.
Personally I think the writing is about as good as you can get with the characters. Everyone carries the same personalities as before, as per the usual bioware fare there's some great dialog (especially if you are an asshole).
So there really are morality points in this game and you can be an asshole even though you're playing as Sonic the Hedgehog?
Well, I guess I'm sold.
Well not in a sense. There isn't a good/evil light/dark stat like in Kotor or Mass Effect. There are just asshole responses that you can use to either lengthen or shorten dialog depending on the conversation. It's all on a more personal level then in those games. It's never "Oh I don't want to hit this dialog because it will give me darkside points." instead it's just "Oh jee do I really want to tell Tails to shut up about reminding me to save? (yes you do)"
The rewards you miss out by being an asshole are minor anyway. For example theres a quest where a kid got trapped by evil robots and asks you to lead him home through the dangerous zone. Where you can promptly say "Good luck getting home kid!" and leave him to fend for himself. You get maybe 50 xp for completing this and a basic healing item. So really not missing much by being an ass.
Theres also points where you can get extra xp by being an ass. When you meet Shadow he's all being a jerk so you can just nag on him about how much better you are then him and then he gets pissed off and you can fight him extra times.
So theres really just little things like that about the dialog. It's just "Do you want to be a dick to Sonic characters?" rather then "Do you want the light or dark ending? (theres only one ending)"

Asshole Dialouge is very tounge in cheek. He references things like how bad Knuckles is at his job and constantly tells Amy how stupid she is.
I also love that Tails is a battered Housewife. " Sonic didn't mean that. He must be tired" . . .

That's what I figured. Still, though. I want this game now. I usually never play as a jerk in these games... But I might have to in this case.

It just so nice to be able to complain in game about useless background characters or fetch quests or other annoying rpg stereotypes.

To me, it is better than SMRPG for one reason alone. This is literally the first (non-MMO) RPG that my girlfriend has immediately fallen in love with. I just got it in from Gamefly today, and have gotten a total of about 30 minutes with it, as I'm having a hard time prying from her grasps. I've never seen her this excited about an RPG, more specifically, a turn-based RPG, as she says they're "too boring."

You should because it is a good game.
It's decent.
Good writing, funny dialogue choices (although your choices don't really matter). Nothing really changes by telling Knuckles he sucks at his job and that Tails should shut up about saving my game (although the latter is reward enough).
Good god is the music horrible though. The battle music is...passable, I suppose, but the different overworld bloops and bleeps remind me of a NES game.
Not a good NES game.
A bad NES game.
The battle system is fun but some enemies are a pain to kill (like the ones that need to be killed at the same time) and missing an Ouendannote when trying to heal your team or resurrect someone can suck.
Also, you better memorize what every item does, because for some reason when you're in battle and want to use an item all you see is the name. Psychic juice? Crazy beans? Fuck it, I'll just beat the enemy to death without items.
Minor character spoilers:
Robotnik animates like a fruit and I have no idea if it's awesome or terrible. It may be both. He does this weird clapping dance thing when he calls down bombs.
It's a shame he (probably) doesn't stick around for long though. I'm guessing he doesn't because he only has one ability and one team-up ability.

I second this. I am thoroughly enjoying this game, but the major thing it seems to lack is polish. It just feels like more could have been done everywhere.
On the other hand bioware probably sees this, and the sequel could turn out to be quite an excellent game.

Seriously. It's sounding like Bioware IS the company that understands the direction Sonic needs to go in. I may just have to pick this up.
