So does this count as a Zelda spin-off? Like is this considered to be set in the Zelda universe? If so, is it the first one?
Some people see the Four Swords games as spinoffs. Personally, I think they are all part of the main series, INCLUDING the Tingle game. I don't know what happens in it, but say Tingle killed Ganondorf or something in his game, then it's canon.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean it's not a spin-off, spin-offs usually are canon. For example, the events of Frasier are canon to Cheers.
I'd call it a spin-off, and I guess the FS games are too, now that I think about it.
The Japanese site is worth a poke around if only for the absurdly bizarre comics (you need to click on the computer when you first load the site, then you are free to click on the comic book on the ground) of which there are now hundreds.
And OMG awesome papercraft! If anyone could find decent sized versions of the nets for that I would love them forever!
Oh snap, I happen to be going to Euroland on vacation the week this game is released? Something tells me this is destiny. A sign. I need to bring my Nintendo DS with me.
I'd wait for the NA version, but as there is so little to go on, I may import. Maybe I'll wait until after Christmas, though. There is just too much to play this fall.
If this game is ever coming out in America, I'd wait. IIRC, The Minish Cap was released in the EU before America and suffered from NoE's shitty translation skills, leaving Treehouse to scrub up before the US release.
But it was alreadypretty clear just how gay he was from the start. Dude sits around talking about wanting to be a fairy, oblivious to the fact that he already is one.

He's pretty not gay. The game kinda involves a scene where he dreams he is being groped by two well-endowed women.
Seriously, the best thing about Twilight Princess was that Tingle wasn't there.
Oh, but he was. Kinda.
And how is he so bad that his presence in Brawl would bother you? He doesn't do anything, ever. He's just there to be delightfully ridiculous, like when he forces his brothers and some dude to be his slaves.

what you refer to as "delightfully rediculous" I call "so fucking annoying that I can't stand the game anymore."
And no, he wasn't in TP. There was a different comic relief character, who was delightfully toned down, but that is not him.

Same english translation was used in all releases. From what I have heard (and I guarantee this is from very reliable source), Minish Cap delayed in USA only for one, sole reason. Nintendo feared that Minish Cap would draw attention from Nintendo DS, which launch coincided with Minish Cap's originally planned release date. Getting phenemonal launch for DS was strategically, and PR-wise, far more important than getting great holiday sales for Minish Cap. Public is, after all, fickle and there wouldn't have been no guarantee it would have bought DS after holidays.

A character that looked exactly the same, right down to mole and watch placement, and was also obsessed with money?

because tingle is the only character ever who has been obsessed with money? Ever?
Seriously, if you had left it at mole and watch, I might have gone back to check for more similarities myself, but now you are just stretching.
The character was a Tingle replacement, because of how many people are sick of Tingle. They made a Tingle replacement in TP, and then they made an entire Tingle game on the DS to appease Tingle fans. That's great; I don't mind the existance of an entire series of games that I have ZERO interest in. Notice that you will NEVER see me bashing Harvest Moon. Just keep that goddamn Tingle out of my Zelda games!
Tingle is a 35-year-old cosplayer who is obsessed with Link, and his father is embarrassed of him. He's an otaku stereotype. Nintendo is making fun of its own rabid fanbase.
Quoted for truth. Zelda fans' distaste for Tingle is wonderfully ironic.
I love Tingle, he's a character designed to piss "fans" off.
It's so post modern that you could put it in the tate modern and piss of the daily mail.
I love it.
hmm, the only reason I said no is that I have heard USA folk say so in the past, I have obviously never tried it myself...
I checked the site, edited above but yeah, seems like they'll ship a few things. Funny they'll sell DVDs but not games.
Man, the Nintendo UK tingle site looks like it was designed by a geocities expat gone low-rent flash banner designer. Surely they're selling enough Wiis and DSs to overpay someone to pony up something slick.
Maybe they just send the boatloads of cash back to the motherland, with a stop in Redmond so Reggie can skim some off the top. Then the Nintendo EU execs work the streets at night to keep the ship afloat.

I wonder if they'll change the US English translation... I'm sure Europe has less compunction about leaving any risqué stuff in. Which... there must be some of, right? Given all the giant boobs I'm lead to believe the game contains?
I'm wondering this as well, as this game MUST BE MINE
I have two weeks too finish TP!
2009 is a year of Updates - one every Monday. Hopefully. xx
£1.60 USA shipping, total £26.49
Works out at around $53.50

Not quite as fun looking as the moonspeak one was but at least it can be understood.
I'm loving the art style, reminds me so much of classic cartoony point and click adventure games.

NOA had better be reading this thread.

He's intended to be a nerd, not a gay.
Seriously, the best thing about Twilight Princess was that Tingle wasn't there.
Facts about Tingle -
1. I cannot stand him in Zelda games, he is the most utterly annoying character ever! ARG!
2. The idea of him in a spin off like this makes me warm and fuzzy inside.
I can't explain either of these, it's just how it is.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5Ol0URmtqw
Also not only is he quite likely gay but in fact officialy (ish) voted #1 Gayest Game Character ever.
He loves Mr. Fairy.
Oh, I say let him have his own-spinoff.
Give him his own goddamn series, if it means taking him out of Zelda games for good.
I am INCREDIBLY worried that he is going to show up in SSB:B, even as an assist trophy, and ruin ALL of my fun.
Oh, but he was. Kinda.

I will stay ever vigilant in the War on Tingle-ism!

Also, take the tingle streetfight outside. To the streets. But not here.

LMAO! "Join Tingle, 35 and single"
This game is gonna be so awesome.
Does Amazon.co.uk deliver to the US?
... though ... wait. I just realized we buy crap from amazon UK all the time at work.
What's going on.
edit: ah they'll ship books, music and movies but not much else.
Quoted for truth. Zelda fans' distaste for Tingle is wonderfully ironic.
Evander and such.
That doesn't sound very postmodern.

How reliable is that site?
What kind of question is that? This is Penny Arcade.
Oh well, better be sure than sorry.
