Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Confirmed For Wii, PS2

edited June 2007 in Games and Technology
Aksys dropped a note this morning to say that the publisher will be bringing Arc System Works' Guilty Gear XX Accent Core to the Wii and PS2 this fall in North America. I dropped the company a line and will be interviewing Aksys soon on the title. Also, their press release stands out as the first i have seen (i think) to actually refer to Wii controls as offering "waggle."

The game will feature over 20 characters (existing and alternate EX versions, as well as A.B.A. and Order-Sol). Also included are 3 fighting systems (Force Break, Throw Escape and Slash Back), and redrawn backgrounds and re-recorded character voices. Aksys also notes a new intro animation as well has been created for the game. There will be 5 modes to play as well (Medal of Millionaire, Versus, Survival and Training).

Here is the part that I love though. While it will support the Wii's motion sensitive controls, the game will also support regular GameCube controllers, as well as the Wii Classic Controller. Neat!

For those of you stopping by the Anime Expo (June 29 - July 2), the game will be on hand.

Aksys will also be offering in-game items for Hoshigami Remix for the DS at the event as well for download.

Well, that's unexpected, although in a way it isn't considering the success in Japan. Not sure how well it would work on the GC controller...

Wasn't the PS2 port really buggy? Did they fix it for the NA release?

I'll assume the unsaid one is Arcade Mode. All of the sudden I have less desire to pick this up now, and I know exactly why: No Story Mode. No Mission Mode. Hell, not even a Quest Mode like in Isuka (granted, it wasn't the best).

The GC controller support pretty much guarantees a Wii version from me, since my PS2 is dying a slow death.

And I wonder what Medal of Millionaire is. I have to say, personally, I thought X2's Story Mode was better than Isuka's Quest Mode.

I think it's the same as MOM mode in GGXX and its reiterations.

    Oh God <3<3<3

But I can't think of waggle, the classic controller, or the Gamecube controller as being good for a fighter. (Even Smash Bros. controls were mediocre at best, I felt.) The Dualshock isn't too stellar, either. I've always felt the XBOX to be the best for fighters, so I may end up sticking with #Reload, if the updates in this one aren't too monumental.

I hope it has GC controller support. I'd like the option of waggle, but in case that doesn't pan out (and it usually doesn't for fighters), I could still bust out my X-Arcade GC adaptor and play it with that.

You just made me throw up in my mouth Robot, the xbox pad is atrocious for fighters.

But then again my favorite fighting pad ever is the dualshock. And I'm so on this for the wii so I can try the classic controller's 2d fighter ability.

Do you use the D-pad? If so, I see where you could be coming from, but I use the analog stick and find the XBOX pad to be just lovely.

Okay, here is an argument I've never understood. Arcade pad ---> Joystick ----> Good
    Gamepad ---> Joystick ---> Bad?

Seems to me like the analog stick is far more suited to emulating the real arcade controls, and the D-pad is really clunky when it comes to linking commands and inputting diagonal commands. The analog stick is much smoother and more precise.

Most fighters (Smash Bros being the only exception I can think of) are designed with digital controls. Analog sticks are just slower then a digital imput.

This is exactly it. The analog stick must be pushed a certain distance before the movement is registered digitally. This means there is a slight pause, and we all know how a slight pause - even very slight - can make a huge difference in a fighter. It's not usually a big problem unless you play the game a lot and you're reaching higher levels of play. The best control scheme is usually the one you're most comfortable with.

They actually are a lot different. They are some major play changes to a lot of the characters. Some of Sol Badguy's moves are shortened, Order Sol has a faster charge gauge and different overdrives, etc. They may seem like they're porting the same game over and over, but for hardcore players the game is a lot different. I mean, it's worth the buy considering the last GG game they released in the US was what...Isuka/#Reload? Those are both missing the updated A.B.A and Order Sol for one. Not to mention they don't have the most recent character balances, etc. etc. I could go on for hours about how different it is to someone who's sunk enough time into the game to notice as I have. I play A LOT of Survival/Arcade modes.

EDIT: Oh, and Accent Core has the sweet new character artwork/voices. I am, however, fucking pissed that they changed the announcer. The new one sucks ass.

Can anyone who has played it comment on whether it is different enough from Slash to warrant a purchase? As much as I love fighters, and GG in particular I'm not sure if I can stomach paying for another version of it :( New intro, redrawn BGs and such are cool, but gameplay-wise how much do the new styles and things add?

Um, most of the characters are the same with a few minor changes, some major. For example, Sol Badguy's Volcanic Viper doesn't launch him into the air anymore, only the opponent. Order Sol plays almost totally different. The charge gauge doesn't take NEARLY as long to charge, and the overdrives are almost totally different.

It's nothing fantastically different, but I still imported anymore.

I am not a hardcore player by any means but I enjoy the series and this whole revision thing reminds me uncomfortably of what happened to Street Fighter 2. When GGXX first came out, I remember it getting a pretty decent amount of coverage but the series seems to have gotten less and less attention with each ensuing upgrade.

I am not asking for all-new sprites because I am more than happy with the current ones but some plot advancement would be welcome.

Oooh, this is awesome. The last Guilty Gear I played was Guilty Gear X2 on PS2 and it's pretty much my favorite 2D fighter. I haven't played any of em since then. Hopefully the accumulated new characters and features from #Reload and Slash and now Accent Core make it enough of a change to warrant a purchase. Is there really no story mode? That's lousy to the max but I guess I could live with it. Story mode was excellent in X2.

I hope it plays well with either the classic controller or gc controller. Waggle doesn't seem right for this kind of game.

As for this, it's a purchase. I've always been a big fan of fighting games-as in I really like them, but have stood upon the brink of the hardcore crowd, from the outside looking in. This is one of the games that crowd always talks about when 2d is mentioned, so it'll be nice to finally dive into it.

I have a Tekken 5 stick, so anyone that can point me to an adequate ps2->GC adaptor (assuming there is on) will uh, get a cookie? No promises.
