    i used to watch every shuttle launch back when i lived in florida

    right before we moved we got to go on a tour of kennedy space center, there are things there that are bigger than I thought things could be. the wind between the assembly building and the shuttle transporter (shuttle shuttle?) was so hard that I could lean 45 degrees forward without falling down

    we got to watch an actual takeoff from across the lake too, which was like four or five miles away

    first there is a lot of smoke, and then it starts going straight up, really fucking fast. totally silently.

    and then a couple of minutes later the sound of it's ignition has made it's way across the lake and even five miles away it is the loudest thing

    those night launches were sweet

    I saw a shuttle launch when I lived in Florida when I was, like, 5. I can just barely remember seeing it take off in the distance.
