The tiger is built on an animal evolving level system. The tiger is your default animal choice.

"Level 1: Become a savage Werewolf and use teeth and nails to shred your enemies to pieces. Capture three of the elusive Spirit Balls and you'll be transformed into a ferocious, fireball throwing Werewolf.

Level 2 and 3: Take flight as Weredragon and use fiery force to fry the followers of Neff. Creep across slippery crevasses inside a deep cavern as the crafty Werebear."

If you look at the pictures, Level 4 and 5 show a Weretiger and Golden Werewolf.

    Sounds interesting.

Seriously though, Travis seems to change, at least in skin tone and hair color, in some of the pictures and movies. We don't really know what it means yet.

Holy crap at that 'tiger/changing/looks/etc' stuff. If they toss in RPG elements of character development and mix in some of the control elements they had going in Godfather for the grappling/wrestling moves, I may never need to buy another Wii game...

You can find pictures of Travis with blond bleached looking hair, and silvery hair. I think it was somewhere on the official Japanese website, in the 51 movies.

I was browsing GameFAQs, looking for links that I had not seen before, and I found a doozy. It is a French gaming blog. I can't read any of it, but there are some very awesome pictures.

I know Suda mentioned Travis was going to be this dorky otaku type, but holy shit.

I had a good laugh at the pseudo-Star Wars models and his Japanese pro wrestling paraphenalia.

I wonder how the assassins feel just after they realize they got their asses kicked by some geeky, Japan-obsessed punk with a taste for moe.

    Not too good, I'd imagine.

Yeah, this game is so bought right now.

And I don't understand why buying a laser sword suddenly makes you one of the top assassins in the world, but whatever. It looks like a blast to play so far.

I think Suda should include a cheesy backstory for Travis that combines the EMO-ness of Cloud/Squall/Prince of Persia with the steroid-ness of Gears of War and Crackdown that tries to explain painfully Travis' desire to be the number one assassin, his insane training, and his downfall addiction to anime and moe.

It should be as cheesy, emo, and steroid-heavy as possible, in which later on Travis will say "Psssh....yeah, like I'd be caught dead with that kind of story. I just like to kick ass with swords, man!"

I kind of like the idea that Travis is just a clueless douche bag who happens to wield impossibly vast natural talent. But instead of turning him into a hero, it really just makes him an invincible douche bag.

i wonder what the tiger icon in the last pic is for...

According to the website, I think the tiger is an indication on how long you can stay Darkside. After it passes the finish line, the mode ends.

But the website also hints that you could get different benefits/power ups depending on what kind of three-in-a-row you get. Darkside is from the grasshoppers, so we're still waiting on the Bar, Bell, Cherry, etc.

You know what else I'm geeked for? The soundtrack. Isn't it being done by Masafumi Takada (who also did most of Killer7 and -- if I'm not mistaken -- motherfuckin' God Hand)? Whatever the case, I get that theme they always play in the videos stuck in my head every time this thread shows up, and I don't mind in the least.

I think he has remixed the theme 3 times so far. Masafumi Takada and Jun Fukuda are working on the soundtrack for this game.

Site updated today. It sheds some light on the part time jobs (which now includes finding coconuts), and of course the obligatory 51 movies update, which now has Travis Baseball, Dr. Peace Shoot and Travis Hits Back.

I find it pretty funny that Travis, on his way to becoming the top assassain, has to mow lawns and find coconuts (plus a ton of other things probably) just to keep money in his pocket.

"El Topo (The Mole) is a 1970 Mexican allegorical, cult western movie and underground film, directed by and starring Alejandro Jodorowsky. Characterized by its bizarre characters and occurrences, use of maimed and dwarf performers, and heavy doses of Christian symbolism and Eastern philosophy, the film is about the eponymous character - a violent, black-clad gunfighter - and his quest for enlightenment. For many years the film could only be seen at midnight screenings, in arthouses and via video bootlegs until its official DVD release by Anchor Bay on May 1st, 2007."

I recommend watching this, maybe alongside No More Heroes to get that perspective ok.

I'm hoping that when you beat the game or something, that the other characters become playable. With the changing of the outfits and such, a few different characters could be quite fun.

Also, I found something on Jeux-France:
    532415200710121620521bitb2.th.jpg

The interesting part is the bottom right, with the characters. Thunder Ryu (wiki says he is a retired wrestler and former Yakuza), Dr. Naomi and some shadowed person who likes kind of like a kung fu type. I wonder what that is about? Maybe it is a Pei Mei type of character? Another sensei to go with Thunder Ryu maybe?

The scan revealed that the game's character designer is Yuzaki Yuusuke, who had designed characters for Speed Grapher. Others on the team include Okama (costume design), who designed the OP for Densha Otoko, and Shigeto Koyama (weapons and mechanics design), who worked on Eureka Seven as an illustrator

    Eureka 7 AND Speed Grapher?

That's like LSD and Crack blended together into a wondeful hallucenogenic energy drink. I was sold before but these guys being behind the look of the game has made it a must have.

Very interesting site update this week. Something called Lovikov balls (which are named or unlock things related to memory, examples including "memory of demon, memory of child) , apparently named for a goofy looking character named Randall Lovikov.

Looking at one of the older screenshots on the site, there is what looks like a balance or steering gauge while Travis is driving his bike. So maybe you rotate the controller, as you do in Excite Truck, and steer that way. That would be cool.

Anime in which the protagonist becomes able to blow shit up by taking pictures of them. I don't remember much about it beside that, and that Girls on Film by Duran Duran was the theme song.
