Halo 3
With slightly over two months today left until the release of Halo 3 I feel discussion of Halo 3 has been rather thin on the ground. So here is a thread dedicated to talking about what we’ve gleaned so far and our hopes for the title.
What is Halo?
It is the third game in the Halo trilogy. An incredibly successful first person shooter that was the most played game on Xbox live for three years. It focuses upon mankind’s struggle against a highly religious conglomeration of alien races known as the covenant, who wish to activate halo shaped worlds that they believe will lead them to salvation. These rings are actually galaxy destroying weapons, used to destroy an infectious species known as the flood. The player assumes the role of a Spartan, one of humanities finest soldiers. Chosen and trained from birth, with an array of genetic modifications and tactical armour.
Items
These have been mapped to the X button. Each player can only hold a single item at a time. The confirmed items are:
Bubble shield: deploys a temporary defensive bubble around the player that can not be fired through and acts as an invulnerable wall to vehicles.
Energy drain: After a short pause it activates draining and killing the shields of those nearby.
Gravity lift: When dropped it can be used to jump into the enemy base or to flip chasing vehicles.
Jammer: When used it confuses the motion sensors of all those within its radius including the player who uses it.
Trip mine: Any body or vehicle who touches this will be reduced to char. Useful for wiping out pursing hogs, though will kill any player to close when its tripped.
Vehicles
All those in the original except for the spectre have been confirmed to return though there have been slight modifications to some of the vehicles such as a turret being added on to the wraith.
The two vehicles added are the mongoose originally scheduled to appear in Halo 2. A two man quad bike with little protection but a great deal of speed and the ability for the passenger to fire what they’re armed with. The second addition is the brute chopper, seemingly a large one man vehicle akin to a larger ghost but supposedly with the ability to tear through other vehicles in collisions.
Weapons
All the weapons from the original return along with some new ones. The most major weapon change is that instead of spawning with the SMG as standard you’ll now respawn with the assault rifle. A two handed weapon to maximise your starting chances and to encourage the use of melee and grenades. The plasma pistol has been turned into a more effective weapon as a fully charged shot will now cause vehicles to overload, stopping them in their tracks for a couple of seconds. To encourage dual wielding as an alternative to single weapons the power of the magnum has been increased noticeably and the spiker, a dual wieldable brute weapon has been added. In keeping with the emphasis of brutes in the new title a new type of grenade has been added, the spike grenade. Able to adhere to any surface when this grenade explodes in fires in a conical pattern away from the surface it’s stuck to. The final ‘normal’ new weapon added is the Spartan laser. A sniper with the ability too destroy vehicles in a single hit and shoot through multiple players. The only disadvantage is that it has a pause to charge up before being fired.
Support weapons have been introduced in this new title. These are the turrets which can now be removed from their bases. Whilst more powerful then standard weapons they slow the bearer down and when wielded give a third person viewpoint with a slower turning reticule. The ability to use standard turrets and rocket turrets has been confirmed, though a brute chieftain is seen wielding an alien turret in the documentary et tue brute suggesting it may be used by players.
Armour customisation
Three colours has been confirmed for player armour. Primary, secondary and detail. More significantly new interchangeable armour parts such as new types of helmets and gauntlets, introduced too maximise individuality. It is likely that the elites will return as playable. It has been confirmed that brutes will not.
Gametypes
Analysis of beta has confirmed that all the gametypes of Halo 2 will return as well as a gametype named infection. It has been hypothesised that this is the commonly played zombies gametype and will use different skins to standard multiplayer.
Storyline
Keith David will be returning to play the arbiter. Miranda keys has had her voice actor replaced. It has been said by Bungie that this will conclude the current arc. It will take place an indeterminate period of time after the finish of the second game. The campaign will include ‘meta points’ heavily suggesting points can be gained in campaign

And it's three months.
Uh. That's for discussing clan related activities for the most part isn't it? If not my bad and a mod can lock this but I'm pretty sure it is.
"Good contribution, Diane"
but thanks for playing.
The Halo 3 beta page disappeared before it got to page 117, which is a shame. But yeah, reading Bungie's what's-update only made me more enthusiastic for this game. I need it.
Halo 3 will definitey have a nice niche for college dorms and others who want an accessible shooter, but I think its definitely one of those games that you either love or hate.
Some people like a game. Others don't find it so appealing. This is not a crime.
Shouldn't you be under a bridge, harassing goats?
Anyway, does anyone else find it impossible to play H2 after playing H3? My controls feel all wierd, and I miss the proper reloading and stuff.

very yes. I think i've tried a game or two since experiencing Halo 3, and it just doesn't feel right. Damn them, i've been teased.
Well, yeah, but it has "Halo 2/3" in the title and that's where we've been discussing Halo 3 (when not in the beta thread) for the most part. I just don't really think we need both.
Story wise I wonder if we're going to play someone other then John. I hope we do given that I thought the Arbiters missions were better thematically. Especially the first.

When you think about it this franchise can only get better. I hope that Bungie isn't imprisoned by their succes and are allowed to explore other kinds of games. I would realy like to see an action platformer from them, maybe a sequel/remake of ONI or something.
Besides, the pop-ups were nowhere near as bad as many claim, and i've seen far worse in games with long loading times.

This final image is by Craig Mullins who has done a lot of Halo concept art. This is from the graphic novel I think.
That.... that's incredible.
So awesome.

Any of this remind anyone of the leaked script from a while back?

This seems like actual campaign concept art from some of the levels! 0_0

What are those things?
all this crap is promo art concept made by outsiders who apparently don't know jack-shit about the games
