I was up way to late last night doing some research on free to play (F2P) MMOs and was wondering if there would be any interest in a bunch of people all picking one, going on the same server and giving it a try.
Here are the ones that seemed semi-interesting. mmorpg.com links have screenshots. Most of these are level grinds, but i don't consider that a necessarily a bad thing.
Standard Korean w/ nice 3D graphics - Point and ClickRAPPELZ -
http://rappelz.gpotato.com/http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setView/overview/gameID/274
Level grind Korean style MMO, but supposedly one of the best. I created a character on the YETI server, so if you join up, use that one. Warning: huge download and update before you get in game.
The rest, I know little to nothing about, but bookmarked. Feel free to give one a try, post the server you picked and give impressions. I tried to avoid the cutesy cartoonish stuff as much as possible, but in the F2P genre, that's difficult.
Last Chaos -
http://lastchaos.aeriagames.com/ - Supposedly like Lineage 2, but free. People say it has an awesome pet system. Who knows.
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setView/overview/gameID/2389 Dragons -
http://9dragons.acclaim.com/ - Recently released. Martial arts. Probably not much content yet.
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setView/overview/gameID/235Scions of Fate -
http://fate.netgame.com/ - No idea.
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setView/overview/gameID/275Korean Style 2D
Maple Story -
http://www.mapleglobal.com/ - Probably one of the better known ones. Cutesy. I think there may be a bot and hacker problem, but again, that goes with the genre. And I'm talking out my ass because I haven't tried it.

I'd really like to find something different. Something that isn't all combat (yeah, eve, already did my time on that).
Myth War Online -
http://www.mythwaronline.com/ - This one seems different. It's 2D time based combat (think ATB, or FFXI where you get your turn after the a timer runs down). I DL'ed this one last night and signed up, but haven't given it a try.

Albatross18 - It's golf
I didn't see this one till I was searching around for a similar thread before starting this one. Seems ... different at least.

If anyone has impressions of any others or suggestions, please chime in.
Oh, and try to give them more than 10 minutes before declaring they suck.
Enjoy

Hooked my friends and me for >6 months. Very unique, although the lack of graphics is a bit of a letdown. Also, the creator constantly updates it, so there's always new stuff. Browser based, so nothing to download.
90% during the update, or dling the original 1.6G file? The update took forever.
The link I used last night was:

No problems.
Kart Rider is another free online game, recently underwent US beta and will probably launch soon. Plays a lot like Mario Kart, earn or buy currency to upgrade karts and drivers etc. I had some fun with it during beta, didn't have much content but I assume they'll quickly move stuff over from the super-popular Korean version. Some random gameplay videos: One and Two
Not a big list, maybe abit outdated, but still, theres a list with some descriptions.
Poxnora also has pretty good free play

Its kinda like Magic the gathering mixed with...i dunno, some tabletop miniatures game =p. You can buy cards to make your own decks or play for free using one of the 6 or 7 premade decks for as long as you want
SilkRoad, as mentioned, is near impossible to log in. I'm also not a fan of grinding. 9Dragons failed to keep my interest, same with Last Chaos. I haven't tried Scions of Fate, but even the folks over at the onrpg forums say it has a horrible online community, and people at onrpg will play anything, even if it requires foreign language translation to get in.
Albatross is, overall, my pick out of all the free games out there. It's a very casual game, items can definitely give you an edge but all in all it's your ability to click at the right time that'll determine how well you do. It's easy to hop in, play a round, and hop out.
It's best played with friends though, I hear as you get higher in levels people only want to play to farm Pang (the currency) and will drop out of a game if conditions aren't 100% perfect for PangFarming, or if it looks like they might possibly lose.
But if you can fire up a four player round with three of your friends (or PA forumers), you can have a nice relaxing round of golf, and enjoy it.
Even if you're like me, and hate golf.
I think so, but it's hideously outdated. It has not aged well in any way.
I'm in for Albatross18 if anyone wants to plan a newbie foursome.
I also picked up GW: Nightfall tonight on a whim in case I hate Rappelz. I never got into the first GW, but they say this is pretty good and they improved the non PVP content.
I haven't had much time for games in the past few months so I'm having a slight bit of gamers ADD, sigh.
Poxnora: I played this a while ago. I probably have 150 runes. I really enjoyed it, but I prefer to play my games with people I at least semi know. It failed to interest any of my friends, so I stopped playing. I agree, it's fun and the free decks are decent enough to have a good time.
Due to complaints that they don't speak English or...what? Their smell? I mean it's an online game, that shouldn't matter.

It's not bad!
No, you didn't miss anything. Male players start with Scout, female start with Hana.
You can buy the other avatars later though.
And yeah, it's exactly mmo super swing golf...SSG is based on the Pangya games.
Pangya, though, needs more DS port. And, like, yesterday.
Terrible name, but fun MMO.

Fair enough, thanks for the heads up. Most of my friends are going to be off on various vacations for the same chunk of summer, so maybe it will be a good way to pass that time.
Various other incarnations for other companies have been in beta for a while. The Singapore version is in English.
It's an MMO where you control a party of 3 people at a time. Beautifully done graphics (though barely any character customization) and music, but very grindy. You are also literally swimming in enemies most of the time-- they spawn by the dozens, and often. It almost feels like an MMO version of Diablo or Titan Quest in that respect.
It's a neat MMORPG where you can grind your character on foot or eventually buy a hoverboard/broom and sail the skies.
Lots of different classes, too.
I'm in the Kern server, if you're interested.
It's an MMOG set in Egypt, centered around crafting various goods. There isn't any combat to speak of, but you can make a whole bunch of stuff. Need brick? You have to make it yourself. You also need to gather plants and turn them into fiber to make clothing. Players can even vote to pass new laws, which the developers then put into the game. It's really cool, and very easy to learn and play. I suggest you try it out if you want something a little different.
You have to grind your ass off to get a broom. And when you finally do, it IS neat to fly around..for about 10 minutes. There is ZERO flight content. Nothing. Nadda. Zip. In the long run I think you will find it a very very very hack/slash game with no real content.
The name of the game is very misleading and the American port of it is a terrible terrible version. The main administration for the game can't even fix typos without sending it back to the original Korean developers. Patches and updates take FOREVER to come into play. The only thing that is updated on a regular basis is the cash shop. That cash shop sells things for on average, no less than 30 bucks.
Isn't that just a free trial, though?
It's also still a bit complicated for new people, but the ARKs (Advisors of Rubi-Ka) are awesome people, and I see them running around, offering advice all the freaking time.

Yeah I think there is a subscription. I tried playing this about a year ago. You get 24 hours of play. Not a 24 period of time, but 24 hours counting down when you log in.
Maybe it was my old computer but it was laggy as hell and it was hard to tell what I was supposed to do.

The game was not finished when it was released and they were hoping the initial playerbase would pay for the development of the game.
It's definately a lot of fun if you like having total freedom of what you do, indepth crafting, and absolutely no classes at all.
Lies! You got to clean floors and fix broken machinery. So if you ever wanted to live vicariously through your school's maintenance man then SEED was your game.

Pokemon Diamond:3394 0249 9567
There was supposed to be more about it. If only they had finished the damned game before releasing it.
I'm just assuming it's the language, but the newspost didn't quite clarify:
“In light of our recent attempts to educate a subset of members in our multicultural, online community on the specific rules and guidelines for our game, OGPlanet has concluded that these attempts were ineffective at best, and that our guidelines and rules have been continued to be ignored by the majority of these players. Due to this, we will be blocking all new registrations from the region of Brazil. If you are already a Brazilian player with an account for OGPlanet, you will be permitted to continue using your account as long as it remains in good standing.”
Could be because they're too damn good? :P Seriously, go play a tournament and watch everyone with a name ending in "ho" shout "HIO!" (hole in one) over and over again.
I can't even chip in from the edge of the green.
And yes, I'm up for a [Game On] Albatross18.
I think that is how it was last time i tried playing it, which is fine and dandy and all, but the new newbie area incorporated the expansion features too and got me all confused.
"You're from Brazil, you must be a rule-breaking asshole." *facepalm*
Is it just me, or do free, cash shop supported MMOs seem to be the trend lately?
Edit: I was hoping I could just use my GW account on DR since it's the same company. I guess it's better that they won't be linked.
Play as an Adventurer or Martial Artist to start... I think they're probably the easiest classes to start with, since they're both good combat characters with healing ability.
