The only 2D metroids I've played are Zero Mission and Fusion. I liked Zero Mission; Fusion less so. When is Super Metroid hitting VC?

I think I'm one of the few people that didn't care too much for Fusion.
Too much about it rubbed me the wrong way.
I didn't like Samus' Sprite, I didn't like the talking computer, I didn't like the space station (until I found the hidden metroid chamber), I didn't like getting upgrades from absorbing creatures vs the old Chozo Statues (though they did a great job explaining it), and I didn't like how all the bosses turned all Anime style when they were half dead (especially SA-X).
The game still rates high up there for me vs all other games, but compared to the other metroids, I think I'd rate it last.

There's no ESRB entry for it, and that usually precedes the VC release by a month or so ... so I'd say don't hold your breath.

Man, I'm gonna be so behind when I finally get a Wii.
Super Metroid contains within it the distilled essence of gaming. I can't imagine not having played it back in the day. MP1 was phenomenally good as well. MP2 less so, but still well above average.
But you guys that like the difficulty in MP2? Man, you guys suck. I still haven't finished MP2 because after the third try on the final boss, I just haven't been back.
I never found Metroid Prime 2 all that hard, granted I never beat it... Didnt even get to the notorious key hunt, I just got bored dicking around in the dark world too much.

Man, I am a huge metroid fan, and I am o so bummed over the fact that I have not been able to get my hands on Super Metroid, or Metroid II, as those are the only metroid games I have not played through as of yet
Im looking forward to corruption alot, I enjoyed both of the previous primes, though I think I enjoyed echoes more than the first, part of that may have had been due to the dark world, and the landscapes which seemed to differ from the ususal lava/ice themed places. I also loved the intro in echoes, with all the dead marines all over, really set up a good atmosphere. I never really did find the key hunt in echoes that hard, had practically no problem at all with finding them, though that may have had been partly due to playing through all of the game quite rapidly.
Anyways, I where not aware that they where actually adding a corruption mode, but now that I am... I am getting this feeling that when you activate it you do a lot more damage, but take damage progressively more and more, that could be kind of cool, while actually being a reasonable feature, as it would allow more damage at the cost of ones own life.

Is the key hunt that much worse than the artifact hunt in MP1? (Real question, I haven't gotten that far in MP2 yet.)
Kind of. Unlike the Artifacts in MP1, you are almost (not entirely, but still) required to wait until the very end of the game to start your hunt.
It is incredibly slow and quite boring.
Not to mention that fact that
the clues to find the keys are not all conveniently placed in one spot but rather they are scattered about and found on the corpses of dead luminoths. So in addition to finding the keys you gotta find the Luminoths that have the clues if you accidentally missed one.
I didn't really start the artifact hunt until late in the game in MP1...I dunno if it'll bug me that much more. I have no qualms about usig an FAQ for silly design decisions like that.
Maaaaaan, I thought the keyhunt was fun. It had you revisiting all these old places but then you get to use your awesome new abilities to do stuff that you couldn't do before because you were too weak.

I actually like backtracking and finding new stuff, but keep in mind that it's really something frowned upon in general.

The dead Luminoth are the clues. If I'm remembering right, there's one main room that tells you the general area the keys are in, then each room with a Luminoth corpse has a key in the accompanying Dark World room.

That's right, my bad haven't played it in a while.
I'm awfully glad I'm a Beta (metroid), because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gamma (metroid)s and Delta (metroid)s. Gammas are stupid.
I'm really excited for this game.

Anyone who hasn't played Super Metroid should run out and Ebay a copy right away. In my opinion, it is the greatest game ever crafted. I can't think of a single thing wrong with it.

Know what, throw the first Metroid Prime on there as well. Another one of my favourte games ever, it's just so bloody good.
This is actually a pretty old video, but somehow I missed it. Jut in case anyone else hasn't seen it, here's one of the more "complete" captures of the demo:

God damn, I want to play Prime 3.
The controls kinda bugged me; they were fine at first when locking on was pretty straightforward. Later when enemies kept breaking the lock-on and each one required you to use a different %@$# weapon I was less impressed. The last boss seemed like it was specifically designed to exploit the problems with the control setup. It felt like the game was easy but the controls were difficult; call me crazy but I prefer slick controls and a difficult game.
*That said I'm still a rabid fan of the series and am practically frothing at the mouth in anticipation.

Never played Super Metroid, want to do so though. The only experience I had with it was grabbing it on emulation one day, it didn't run perfect and there were little sound and graphical glitches so I stopped playing. I dind't want to experience a crappy version of the game. I want the VC version as those sound like they are good emulations.
I would think it would be stupid to not release Super Metroid on the VC either on the launchday of MP3 or a short while before when anticipation is at its peak. Super seems to be the fan favorite by far with Zero Mission coming in second.
What was the story with Zero mission? Was it a retelling of 1?
Also, is MP3 going to come after MP2 but before Metroid 2? I don't know much about the story really, but just curious. Never played Metroid 2. Actually, the only one I ever finished was the original.
Burned out on the artifact hunt in MP1 and never got MP2 because most people don't seem to like it as much. I loved MP1 up until the repetition of the backtracking. In MP1 I found the space pirate fighting to be the most boring parts of the game, and the end has them all over the place in almost every room you go through. Killed any desire I had to finish that game. The rest of the game looked to be about 4000 dead space pirates away, and ugh...
News that the keyhunt in MP2 was WORSE than the artifact hunt of MP1 wasn't reassuring AT ALL. I generally prefer my backtracking to be enemy free. I want to feel like I have already been here and kicked it's ass. Adding different enemies to the same place I was just through seems like a cheap attempt at lengthening the game to me. I don't really mind a short game if it was fun. Let me play through it again on a higher difficulty or something if you want replay.
@ smudge - Metroid Zero mission was basically a recap of Metroid 1 with updated controls; some new areas, more in depth back story and a stealth section where Samus was without her suit. The space pirates which had until that point been easy pickings were suddenly quite scary; one of my favorite parts of the Metroid series actually, of course it was short and would have been less fun if they had overdone it.
Also when I played fusion I kept expecting the clone Samus to turn out to be the real Samus and the player to turn out to be the clone; that never happend but was I the only one who thought this?

I never thought that but it would've been a cool twist.
I kept on thinking that too. I liked the game itself, but couldn't help just say to myself "no way they actually decided that THAT will be her new look."

There's an easy cop-out to that for the next game, if Nintendo so chooses.
If you will notice, the Fusion suit is simply the Power Suit with all the metal armor cut off. I'm sure Samus could have that armor replaced.

That's clearly Dark Samus up in the corner... but what's the deal with the 2 back-to-back Samuses?
Eh, it works. It's a little hokey looking though. The black Samus suit looks like it's melting away from Samus' normal suit, and I guess it's a mirror image because the gun is on the wrong arm.
My frothing demand increases. Multiplayer utilizing Samus' capabilities could be awesome but is was implemented in Prime 2 in the manner of dogshit rather than in the manner of quality. I'm glad they've scrapped it entirely as it means more time to polish the single player experience.
Man this thread is reminding me of how Super Metroid is one of the best looking games ever. The smoothness of Crateria I's rainfall at the beginning, all of Norfair II, it's incredible. What a great game. I can't believe how much that game accomplishes on every level of an experience and every expectation of quality.
There was a brief period where I would have ranked Metroid Prime above it, but no more. The nostalgia is factor in this, but memories of the original experience only further cement the game's high caliber. Anyone remember those SNES kiosks? Like the Genesis ones, they were often set to reset whatever game they were playing every fifteen minutes or so. I remember right around when Super Metroid came out there was a group I was briefly apart of that were mutually playing through it one such kiosk, charging into unknown areas to find that precious save chamber before each reset of the hardware. Ponderous.
This is the only game that has had this effect on me, that I would NEED to play this much. I still play through Super Metroid from start to finish at least once a year. I don't do this with any other Metroid game. I don't even do this with most Castlevania or Megami Tensei games.
