Remember when Retro once had a few projects they were working on? One was a post-apocalyptic car combat type thing, looked like it could have been cool. (Though they merely showed some artwork or some such, so who really knows how far they had gotten in development...)
Then Nintendo laid down the law, canceling everything but Metroid. "Concentrate, fellas!" I overheard one of the Nintendo bigwigs say.

Yes. Apparently the early build of Prime sucked completely, so they cancelled all the other projects. IGNcube was a huge fan of what they had seen of Raven Blade.
Metriod Prime 2 really was not all that great to me, and 3 looks to be just like 2. Unless they make some dramatic changes in the Direction/Story of the game I am not going to care. Sorry, that is just how I feel about it.
"Just like 2"?
In what sense? I mean, I'd really like to know, because so far, MP3 looks pretty damn different from both 1 and 2.
Well the graphics look the same for one, many of the visuals have not changed enough to really give me that "Oh look at the new game!" feel. You have that evil Samus back again and just christ, it looks like Prime 2. I don't see much of a change really and the creators seem to be avoiding talking about the Story and that makes me think they are not focusing on it. Just not my kind of game I guess, I dono...
Or perhaps theyre just not talking about the story so that they dont spoil it for everyone? More companies need to not talk about their games story, Its not even really necessary with an established franchise.
I loaded up MP2 and now I remember how awesome the Prime title screens are, I hope MP3's is in the same vein. Sadly that's as far as I went, my cube gives me DREs like it was candy.

Well, Corruption is the last of the series... I wonder if they'll do their own thing next?
They'll just move on to the next non-Prime Metroid game.
i want them to do one of three things. their options are:
A. make a new Kid Icarus
B. make Raven Blade
C. surprise us
personally, I'm hoping for option B. just no more prime for awhile, please. not that they aren't FANTASTIC games, I just really really want to see what else they could do.

Kinda like how Factor 5 got stuck in a Rogue Squadron rut until Lair?

So you're saying they're going to have to leave Nintendo to make a different type of game?

Funny how once Factor 5 finally was set free of license limitations, they go ahead and make the same damn game with different skins anyway. (That's not to say Lair won't be good.)

There'll be an ice realm named Exelroth or something.
Honestly, Hunters was a mediocre game. Control issues aside, it was a Quake 3 clone + alt forms. I don't think it would stand on its own as a Wii game.

Well then theyre practically a bunch of hypocrites and suck, and shouldve just done a Wii Rogue Squadron Anthology, with the on-foot shit stripped out.
The first words of that article claim that Halo introduced a new FPS control scheme on consoles.
What was new about it again?
I'm clueless about this as well.
Indeed. While Halo did implement dual-analog control pretty well, it sure as hell didn't introduce it. Not by a million miles, in fact. Several PS2 FPSes had used it previously, and IIRC, the first game to use it was Goldeneye, in 1996 (there was a two-pad control scheme).
EDIT: Now that I think about it, that's a completely ridiculous thing to say. The fact that it's complete BS should have been immediately obvious to the person that wrote it. It's like saying Star Wars was the first film to use miniatures and pyrotechnic special effects.
RE4 really has me excited for the possibilities of wiimote aiming. Plus the grappling hook looks awesome.
It looks stunning. None of the screens are doing the game justice. Go back to Prime 1 and tell me it isn't one of the most atmospheric games ever. If it looks even slightly better than that, I will be pleased.
The story sounds better already with the little I know, than both other Prime games. I like how they are being tight lipped about it. That is good, I like surprises.
Shit, Super Metroid pretty much had zero plot and story and you don't see anybody complaining about that. I'm thinking Prime 3 will be an excellent mix of story and action. The franchise is in great hands. True Metroid games should always only be 1 player.
I bought Hunters, and enjoyed it alright besides the hand cramps. But when it comes to a meaty one player experience like Metroid, I'd perfer it dropped so all work can be focused on the real solo game. Luckily Retro knows that anybody with half a brain thinks this way.
If you can't tell, I have really high hopes for this game.
I wanted to put my two cents in on the no multiplayer thing.
Unexpected, but thank god. More time spent on the single player experience.
That's what I thought. Metroid is practically my favourite game series, but I hated the mulitplayer in Prime 2 and I absolutely despise Hunters. More single player stuff at the expense of the multiplayer is good for me.
I'm still a bit wary of Prime 3. I loved the control scheme in Prime 1 and 2 it made them, amongst other things, play completely different to standard FPSs (a genre I do not care for). The Wii remote control scheme could move it more towards keyboard/mouse controls and therefore standard FPS play. Still I've got a lot of faith in Retro after the first two Primes so I'm more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Well I think being more FPS like (as far as battles go) isn't a bad thing. The only thing you gotta hope is they pay attention to all the non-battle stuff (puzzles, exploration). I loved MP1 and 2 but I would not mind a more action-centric battle set-up.
And yeah, to whoever said it, fuck Hunters. SP Metroid 4 lyfe.

Turok 1 did it before that (I think Turok 1 came out before that) but you use the Analog stick to look around and the C buttons to move in that direction.
Now replace the C buttons with another Analog stick and you've got exactly what FPS's on consoles use now.

There are console shooters before Halo and after Halo. Everything after is using some combination of the two stick, slight auto-aim setup that Halo popularized.
People get mad at that idea, but it's true. Goldeneye didn't 'invent' 4 player split screen, but it sure did popularize it. I think the same is true of Halo's FPS controls.

OK, look, Samus isn't a bounty hunter. How this idea started is beyond me but a sentence or two about Samus being a bounty hunter in the NES instruction manual (probably some mistranslation to begin with) doesn't make Samus a bounty hunter. She doesn't collect bounties or awards, she doesn't bring anyone back alive, she doesn't buy equipment or work by contracts, she doesn't scope out the lay of the land, she has no tracking skills and meets very little intelligent life outside of the odd space pirate; usually she's on an uncharted planet finding artifacts as she goes along, fighting for her life.
I've never heard of her declining a contract or disobeying the Federation or whatever, either.
She is the WORST bounty hunter in the galaxy - she's a great fighter, explorer, hazard team member, etc. but she's not a bounty hunter or detective. If she's a bounty hunter, then Mario is a plumber.

if retro ever does get to making a wifi-multiplayer-capable metroid, all that i'd really like to see would be co-op boss battles. because all the bosses have been in static arenas anyway, they could release a disc with all of the bosses from the prime series (with updated textures & polygons) and while of course it would require changing the boss a.i. it wouldn't be as design intensive as building new worlds from the ground up.
a realm-wide game of hide and seek would be pretty awesome too, with side objectives for easter eggs.
i don't care though. for my roommate and i, trading off at each save point while going through MP1 & 2 was multiplayer enough for me. can't wait for MP3
