If I remember right, the into to Metroid Fusion had Samus wrangling asteroids and providing security but the bulk of the game is, as always, about her fighting for her life while running from floating jellyfish, not collecting big bucks. It's like she wants to be a bounty hunter, she needs to pay the rent, but everytime she tries to do her job, there are massive explosions and monsters and there's no one left alive at the end to pay her for escaping by the seam of her metal pants. It's like a thousand black cats crossed her path simultaneously.

Even those googly-eyed wasp men at the end of Echoes didn't pay Samus for collecting all those artifacts - they just waved thanks as she flew away. I wish lawyers accepted warm thanks as payment.

Well, Corruption is the last of the series... I wonder if they'll do their own thing next?
They'll just move on to the next non-Prime Metroid game. :)

i want them to do one of three things. their options are:

    A. make a new Kid Icarus
    B. make Raven Blade
    C. surprise us

personally, I'm hoping for option B. just no more prime for awhile, please. not that they aren't FANTASTIC games, I just really really want to see what else they could do.

Kinda like how Factor 5 got stuck in a Rogue Squadron rut until Lair?

Funny how once Factor 5 finally was set free of license limitations, they go ahead and make the same damn game with different skins anyway. (That's not to say Lair won't be good.)

I think theyre happy as long as they dont have to do a Hoth level.

There'll be an ice realm named Exelroth or something.

Well then theyre practically a bunch of hypocrites and suck, and shouldve just done a Wii Rogue Squadron Anthology, with the on-foot shit stripped out.

I would say that I hope Lair flops horribly and they have to run crying back to Nintendo, but that would be overly fanboyish and mean.

The first words of that article claim that Halo introduced a new FPS control scheme on consoles.

What was new about it again?

I'm clueless about this as well.

Indeed. While Halo did implement dual-analog control pretty well, it sure as hell didn't introduce it. Not by a million miles, in fact. Several PS2 FPSes had used it previously, and IIRC, the first game to use it was Goldeneye, in 1996 (there was a two-pad control scheme).

EDIT: Now that I think about it, that's a completely ridiculous thing to say. The fact that it's complete BS should have been immediately obvious to the person that wrote it. It's like saying Star Wars was the first film to use miniatures and pyrotechnic special effects.

There are console shooters before Halo and after Halo. Everything after is using some combination of the two stick, slight auto-aim setup that Halo popularized.

People get mad at that idea, but it's true. Goldeneye didn't 'invent' 4 player split screen, but it sure did popularize it. I think the same is true of Halo's FPS controls.

I would say that Timesplitters was fairly popular, as a PS2 launch title it must have sold well. Though I guess you could still make the case that Halo 'popularised' it.

With E3 coming up we can expect a lot of impressions...

What do you guys think will happen? I'm betting sites like IGN will herald it as the new coming of FPS console controls... while other sites like 1up will simply say it's neat but a keyboard and mouse is better.

I think you're probably spot on for those two websites. I think people are going to dig it in general though, even if they don't prefer it to KBAM.

I imagine (I haven't tried it yet) that the Wii controls will not be as accurate as keyboard and mouse but they might be more natural.

I'm curious to see if they'll get some version of the Speed Booster in here.

My memory is lacking ATM.. was the SB in anything besides SM?

Edit: It'd have to be as I recall shine sparking in Fusion and ZM.

The Speed Booster could be pretty awesome in Prime, if done right. Though I imagine it wouldn't be used very often.

Have the people who were bitching about the controls (lock-on olol) stopped since they said that locking on is for setting an orbit on an enemy, and you still manually aim with the remote?

So how is the control different from Red Steel?
Because everyone seems to go on about how it's the new KBM but not add anything specific. Even the wikipedia article just says it's "intuitive".

According to the previews, the biggest change seems to be the bounding box. Red Steel used a very wide one, so you had to move the cursor all the way to the side to turn. MP3's is much tighter, allowing you to turn quickly. It has three different sizes, too, so you can switch to a looser one if you want.

MP3 also has a lock-on system, where you choose a point to circle around, but can still aim wherever you want on the screen. In the demo videos, this meant that combat is much more intense and challenging than before, since you can't just lock on and fire away. You even have the option to turn this off, and keep the same style lock on as the previous games.

Finally, there's the intangible "feel" of a first-person game, the weight, the speed of motion, the way you look around. I'd be willing to bet a substantial part of the improvement in MP3 is simply Retro's experience with the feel of a first person game. Either way, I'm tremendously excited. Can't wait til August.

Even without looking at that ign page i'll take a wild guess at the intro: You're on some ship or space station, you are pretty powerful. You fight some large boss, then have to run away before the ship/space station explode. Somewhere between the beggining and the end of this mission something happens and you lose most of your abilities. m i rite?

If it's anything like RE4 as far as accuracy I'd say it will be more accurate than a mouse & keyboard; the downside is that your wrist will cramp up much faster. Personally I find I get a lot more precision with the wii-mote (and I'm no slouch with a M&K).
