(suggested idea, let me know what you think)
PAX 2005; I'm going, you're going, your neighbors dog is going. It will be sweet, but it's missing something...
Enter the "2005 Penny Arcade Expo Nerd Rap Battle tournament!"
An amateur rap battle tournament designed to test the mettle of all of the Penny-Arcade readers that also tread on the M.C. side of things
The first few rounds could be in the game rooms with copies of "Get on da mic", the next few round could be in the smaller auditorium, and the final bitter duel could be on Saturday to open up the show!
Judges would be volunteers/ members of Optimus Rhyme, MC Chris's backing band, The Minibosses, MC Front's backing band/ whomever.
Prizes include ... haven't thought that far ahead
It would pretty much be run like a regular tournament, just with WAY more use of the line "I'm not kidding with these rhymes you see, cause All your base belongs to me"
Let me know if you're interested. Considering the large number of people attending and the large number of Nerd Rap superstars at the event this could be a really fun and oddly fitting distraction.

Mad props on the Clone High picture by the way
How so? The DDR tournament proves that we don't particularly care what people think of us.
Fair enough, everyone is free to their own opinion
Mulletude - Holy Snaps! Is that a picture of Kim Jong Ill with a mullet?

what does rapping have to do withe videogames?
or car customization for that matter
As long as people enter, I see this tournament being really fun! The first few rounds probably won't be so good, but I picture it being the "American Idol so bad that it's good" kind of not so good. Either way, it would be entertaining to watch and those people that entered the tournament that actually have skill will get a little bit of notoriety and exposure out of it.
*Please note, I have never watched a full episode of American Idol
With a camera.
Wait. I'm going to have to withdraw my support for this idea.
I thought it was going to be a challenge for actual hip-hop musicians.
Not yelling at each other using a copy of the most retarded videogame ever invented.
It's supposed to be a challenge for Hip-Hop musicians that are also gamers, but I don't see it really turning into that until the later rounds.
Who here does, for-reezy?
Actually, I plan on passing out my groups EP there as well.
I won't be there also... because it's incredibly stupid
chance's are you're all white
and not eminem
Hey, I remember this one time that Eminem wasn't the only white rapper ever. I also remember this one time where he did more to the detriment of rap than for it.
I also seem to remeber a staggering amount of white rappers. You know what, I'm just gonna tell you to shut the fuck up and find your way to Sage Francis, Aesop Rock, The Beastie Boys, MC Frontalot, mc chris, Atmosphere, DZK, Rob Sonic.....etc....
Thanks for defending Hip-Hop man, I can't think of anything to add.
It's good to know that some people are legitimately excited about this idea. Does your group have a website?
the backbeats are generally fine but they're usually fucked up because someone decides to start talking
the issue is that rap battles are stupid, duh
yeah.
what does that even mean?
I'm for a rap battle. Provided that the contestents are capable of stringing together sensical rhymes on their feet that don't involve raping / capping their opponent, but rather out-doing them in quick-thinking lyrical prowess.
Because that would be kind of cool.
Unlikely, though.
Seriously though, if you run this, good luck and have fun.
I used to think the same way. It's a matter of preference and I respect that, but if you would like to check out some rappers that do a good job of it I personally suggest K-os, The Beastie Boys, GangStarr, Eric B and Rakim, Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, The Black Eyed Peas (Will. I. Am's solo stuff is great also), etc. Good rap exists, it's just a matter of finding something that you enjoy.
Should I make a new thread with "For Gabe" in the topic line so this gets noticed?
you don't like Vanilla Ice? No Ninja Rap? Awww...
