i'm looking for a (relatively) inexpensive online dealer for contacts. basically i just want to shop around first and also find a trustworthy online store that won't send me contacts contaminated by salmonella or something. does anyone here regularly use any of those stores like 1800contacts? are there other options besides online stores and optometrists where i might be able to save a few bucks?
My wife just ordered contacts through the 1800contacts website. About half the price compared to an optometrist. The only thing she thought was shady was that they give you a rebate if you order a large amount of contacts, but the price they quote includes the rebate (so you're not actually saving double, they're just adjusting the price).
She also found out that you're not supposed to have to sign anything to get a prescription filled, even though optometrists will often pressure you to do so. She did say that online was cheaper than any other method, though.
Just make sure you enter in your prescription right. It took about a week for hers to arrive, but she's been happy with them.
I got my last years worth of contacts through 1800 contacts. Really simple, and straightforward (not to mention WAY cheap) just enter your prescription and your Drs name and number. They call to verify, so its not super important to enter the Rx accurately.
4 days later I had my contacts. The time largely depends on how long it takes them to verify with the Dr, and the shipping.
