Yes, another LTTP thread: Nintendo DS

So I'm thinking about buying a Nintendo DS, but I don't know about what games to buy.

Here's what I've considered so far:
-Trauma Center
-Phoenix Wright
-Cooking Mama
-WarioWare: Touched
-Animal Crossing
-Pokémon Diamond version
-Maybe some of the classic ports, like Yoshi's Island or Super Mario 64

That's about all that I can think of so far... I'd rather hold off on buying the ports for a while and I'd rather focus on games that are innovative and refreshing. Does the Pokémon Diamond/Pearl use the touch screen feature much? What about Animal Crossing?

Any suggestions or tips about the DS in general would be appreciated. I haven't bought it yet, but I think I'll do it sometime this week.

    Starfox Command
    Metroid Prime Hunters
    New Super Mario Bros
    Mario Kart DS

Also, go with black. I got the white, and I hate it.
I find the touch screen worthless in Pokemon Diamond and never use it. You can use it during combat, but the directional pad works just as well.

Why do you hate it in white?

The white one is fine, but I can't give any opinions on black Lites.

Trauma Center pretty much covers "innovative and refreshing". The other tough screen-heavy games I highly recomend are Elite Beat Agents and Meteos.

Speaking generally, the best advice I can give someone new to the DS is to keep your collection diversified. Go for a blend of games that are touchscreen-heavy and that are button-heavy -- one of the biggest strengths of the system is that it can accommodate both. So for every Trauma Center or Elite Beat Agents, also pick up a Castlevania or a Mega Man (or a game like Advance Wars DS, that gives you a choice between control schemes).

Pokemon D/P doesn't use the touchscreen very much; you can play it with almost all buttons, but with all of its gameplay tweaks and streamlining I've heard it's pretty much the definitive version of the Pokemon formula, plus the online battling/trading means there's no reason to buy both copies.

I recommend Tetris DS to everyone and their mama, and even though they're also block-dropping puzzle games I strongly suggest either Meteos or Planet Puzzle League because they play so different from Tetris. Wario Ware Touched is generally considered one of the weakest iterations in the series; you may want to go for the GBA Wario Ware Twisted, which is superb. Trauma Center and Phoenix Wright are stellar, and you will also want to look at Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan 1/Ouendan 2 -- sheer fun captured on silicon.
The white one is fine, but I can't give any opinions on black Lites.
The white one picks up dirt easier, but the black one shows smudges on the outside a whole lot more. I have a black DS Lite and prefer it because the matte black on the inside looks sexxxy and makes the screen appear brighter, IMO.

My trigger buttons are turning yellow and there is dirt buildup around the edge of the DS that you can not clean out. You don't get the fingerprint problem with the white as you do the black, but don't play it without washing your hands first.
