Let's talk about wrestling

I been meaning to make a wrestling, and sadly today's news spurred me to do so.

Today, Chris Benoit, one of the best wrestlers in the WWE, and one who was almost universally loved by internet fans was found dead, among with his family. No further details have been announced.
This death hits me as much as Eddie Guerrero's did a few years back. Both were men who I loved watching in the ring, and was entertained by them for countless hours.
There will be a special for him tonight on Raw.

I was about to post this. It is a shame and one of those weird things that sticks at you. The only good thing to come from this is that he and Guererro both achieved their dreams and got a pretty decent championship party to boot before they died. But both of these friends in like a year? Jeez.

Really, I hope Vince is proud for pulling off a 'death' angle right before a legitimate death. Hopefully he has the class to call it off now. It's sad that Chris had to go, especially right after missing a title match. He was one of the last all-around performers that the WWE had left.

I just heard the report about it. I didn't realize (even though now I see it in the OP) that his wife and kid were found dead with him. They're calling it homocide right now. Man, that's terrible.

Crap..I heard reports about this, but I was hopping they were false. Still hopping, but I don't know anymore....

It seems that Benoit MAY had killed his wife and son over the weekend, and then himself today.

I really hope that isn't true, I really liked Benoit. I don't watch wrestling anymore but I loved to watch him. He was always entertaining and giving 150%.

That was a very classy RAW tribute show. it had probably my favorite benoit moment, when he and Eddie Gurrerro hugged at the end of Wrestlemania 20.

Also, while everyone can speculate all they want, I don't think it's right to say that Benoit or his wife my have murdered the entire family. I think we owe it to them to wait for some more facts.

I was randomly flipping through the channels and stumbled upon the tribute:shock:D:. He had been one of my favorite wrestlers since his WCW days. His matches against Guerrero and Kurt Angle are classics.

Apparently he was removed from Sunday's show for 'personal reasons'.

Well reports are saying it looks like his wife and child were dead before today, and they all were in separate rooms. Which really makes me hope what that spell's out isn't true.

since I heard the news I've been really really hoping that this wasn't the case, but it's the most common reason for a whole family to die. Or at least it seems that way.

    damn I hope not.

Investigators have confirmed it. He killed his wife and kid, then himself the next day.

investigators believe the 40-year-old Benoit killed Nancy and Daniel over the weekend, then himself on Monday. A neighbor called police, and the bodies were found in three rooms.

According to Pope, there were no signs of gunshot wounds or stabbing. Authorities are not ruling out other causes, such as poisoning, suffocation, or strangulation.

Pope told ABC News "the instruments of death were located on scene," but would not specify what those instruments are or where in the house the bodies were found. Pope added the department is "not actively searching for any suspects outside of the house."

    More information, from WWE.com:
Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.

Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.

At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.

WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.

The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.

WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

Just to add to this craziness, I looked up the IP and it comes from Stamford, Connecticut; which happens to be where WWE headquarters are located. I thought this was too weird not to mention. Trvr3307 05:33, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Holy. Fuck. When I got the message, it was pretty shocking, but everything that's coming out of it now? Man, wrestling in general has had some pretty sordid stories, but this one tops them all. It's a bit disheartening to realize that Benoit is probably going to be known as the guy that killed his entire family instead of an awesome wrestler.

And man, Malenko and Saturn better watch out.

Ugh. With my previous post, I was going to say that it was possible the story originated in Stamford, was leaked to the FOX affiliate out of context and is in the process of being blown up by certain segments (WWE's website) of the interwebs. CNN doesn't have the story, is it being carried anywhere else?

THe AP lists one story posted at 1:46. FOXNews doesn't say when they got their info.
