So, a simple question now that there is a new "Signature Edition" out: is the Spawn HBO series actually a quality program / better than the comic / worth watching?
I finally got all the single issues to read all the way through Planetary. I think its the best comic ever. I want to sex up Warren Ellis because of it.
So, a simple question now that there is a new "Signature Edition" out: is the Spawn HBO series actually a quality program / better than the comic / worth watching?
a resounding yes to all three of those.
I've had the DVD set since it came out.
basically, all the stupid shit in the comics is cut out, and it's only 18 episodes, so there is no filler.
the voice acting is what really clinches it. So good.
I still watch it every now and again, and it still entertains as much as it used to.
[strike]Cassady[/strike] Ellis needs to get his ass in gear for the last issue.
Every delay on the book has been due to Ellis. It drives me nuts seeing people rake Cassaday over the coals when the dude's just taking work on other titles cause he's had to wait - literally for years - for Ellis to deliver the final scripts.

it really sucks that it got canned when it did. the animation was so good for the third season. really wish it could have finished properly.
So I am thinking about getting into the Cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. I know Annihilation rocked, and since they have started to come out in Paperback form I'm going to start to pick up the TPBs. But my question is has the cosmic side of the Marvel U continued to deliver in the way that Annihilation did?
A lot of people seem to think the Annihilation sequel hasn't been as good. Personally, the only cosmic stories I've read are Marvel Boy (kind of cosmic), Adam Strange: Planet Heist, and Starman's stint in the actual stars.
Conquest is a decent enough follow up, but it's not as good as Annihilation. The only real cosmic book going now besides Conquest is Nova, which you should definitely be reading.
I'd say Conquest has been just as good as the original so far. The Ronan and SuperSkrull mini's were less than spectacular in the original outing and I'd rank them equal to Wraith and Quasar. Nova is just as good this time around and Starlord is probably better than Silver Surfer's mini in my opinion.
Since the actual Conquest series hasn't started yet, it's hard to compare the two properly. The Prologue for both were good and similar mini's so far make it a worthy follow up in my eyes.
Also, Nova's series has been excellent and looks to continue being teh awesome. If Conquest doesn't float your boat, then the Nova series will easily satisfy your cosmic appitite.
That's a good point. Some of the prologue minis for Annihilation weren't that great or epic, but the Annihilation mini itself made up for their lackings in spades.

He has delivered the final script.
Last march.
It was my understanding when I talked to Cassady last year that they weren't really worried too much about finishing the last issue in any set time frame, as it is an epilogue they weren't originally going to write. A "we'll get to it when we get to it, but it's not priority #1" attitude.

Since I am a screenwriting major, I am pretty much glued to the computer when not in classes, and I work in front of one too. So yeah. I have the time.
Most people hate it. Especially the altering of the Joker's origin. Apparently it's supposed to be cancelled in the near future as well. I flipped through it a couple times. Nothing really stood out to me to be honest, but the art wasn't that bad from what I saw.

I mean, I'm pretty sure most of it isn't supposed to be taken as canonical. With that in mind, I don't see why someone would fault it for the story, necessarily, especially given that it's actually pretty well-written, if a bit heavy handed.

But yeah, I guess it was alright. Certainly better than the movie, and better than the comics too I think.

Is this whole "cyborg animals from hell" motif ever explained?

It's the future, and since all the animals refused to evolve on their own we decided to strap some motors on their asses and call it progress.

Just the way cyborg animals in comics are usually explained - secret government labs, mad scientists, etc.
But the world in the comic is the way it is because it's how the Hand wants it: they have access to a way to rewrite reality.
Ya, I would say just hunter for the singles at this point. It was totally worth it for me.
I guess that's the point?

Any developments on this front?
Uh, I'll have an answer within the hour.

That was weird, but I was more curious than anxious anyway.

Within the week, then?
Seriously
All by myself if I have to.
I can't really afford to participate, but I can run it.
I'd be more than willing to run it with someone else too, of course.

Does anyone else read Batman Confidential? I picked up some of the Joker arc today and I'd say it's surprisingly good. Was the first arc decent?
The art's a little funky, but I wouldn't call it "god awful." It feels kind of like a faux Sam Kieth, I'd say.
last year it was "buy someone a single issue"
it's not expensive
(then my spider-man bought me Teen Titans Season 1 so it can be expensive)

Too bad it's getting canceled, I guess.
Does anyone know where the art is from, as I love it.
