Applecare Protection Plan

So two Christmas's ago my now ex-girlfriend bought me a video ipod for christmas w/ the Applecare Protection Plan. Unfortunately I thought it was something like Best Buy's extended warranty offers where just buying it along with the ipod would properly activate the extended warranty. Recently, it stopped turning on (outside of the one year warranty) so I tried to go through Apple's website to send it in for repairs but they said it was out of warranty... so I tried to go through the proper channels to activate my applecare for my ipod but since it's out of warranty I can't enroll my ipod in applecare.

I tried calling Apple just now but they are closed until tomorrow, but am I screwed? I mean the ipod and the extended warranty are, I'm sure, on the same reciept (but getting said reciept from my ex may prove to be easier said then done). Is there anything I can do here? I mean I simply didn't realize I would have to activate my warranty. What should I say to them when I do call for the best results?

I miss my ipod =(

Just call them tomorrow and see what they say. I'm sure they'll be willing to work with you since you just didn't know how to activate Apple Care. Just be courteous when you call and if they can't help you, ask to speak to a supervisor in a very polite tone of voice.

Your serial number is tied to the APP, you don't need a reciept or anything. Just the serial number on the iPod. It'll be fine.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have a somewhat relevant question. I got an iPod in the summer of 05, and bought the applecare protection plan a bit before the standard warranty expired last year. Now it's almost a year later, and I was looking into buying another year. However it seems like I can't. At least from what I've seen on the applecare website. Am I missing something or am I boned after my current applecare plan expires?

You can't extend past the original extension. Sucks.
