So Friday is my brithday and I'm feeling like a selfish bastard because it's my birthday. And it's on Friday. And I have 5 days off for the 4th of July and want to scorch my brain into a black, lifeless piece of carbon with some extended 360 action.
What titles should I pick (or add to) my 360 wish list?
What I have so far:
The Darkness
Pros: Starbreeze. Riddick was
awesome. Tentacles and Darklings. I really want this one, but could probably pick up 3 older/used games for about the same price, maybe a bit more.
Cons: New game = $60. Dunno if the single-player will be long enough or if the multiplayer is beefy enough to warrant $60.
Dead Rising
Pros: I've been reading the LttP thread, and this game sounds full of win. Older, so should be cheaper.
Cons: None?
Fight Night Round 3
Pros: I love boxing. I love video games. I hear this is an awesome videogame about boxing.
Cons: See, Dead Rising.
Viva Pinata
I don't know much about this other than not that many people bought it, but those who did found it to be a great title. Drop some wisdom on me.
Far Cry Instincts Predator
Not even sure if that's the right title or not, but I've never actually played any of the Far Cry titles. I do love a good, long FPS game, but is this worth picking up and are there folks still playing the multiplayer?
Any other suggestions you, gentle reader, may have.
What I already have: Oblivion, GRAW, RSV, PGR3, CoD 2 & 3, Forza 2, SC: Double Agent, a couple others I never play.
Shanks.
Edit: only reason I mention price above with The Darkness is that we're (me and wife) on a budget and we have to stick to it, so buying one new game does put a big dent in the wish list funds.

I have to agree here. I did not expect that I would like Crackdown as much as I did. There is something awesome though about your ability to manhandle the city the way you can. I love leaping up a 20 story building to toss grenades at gangsters. It's a blast to play, and you can play a pick up game pretty easy.
Seriously, get those two. You have played anything like either of them.
However, it will be in bargain bins shortly I imagine.

Oh, and Dead Rising can be found for very cheap nowadays, likely with FNR3 as well. I got DR for $30 used at GameStop in pristine condition; you can splurge on both those games and alternate between pummeling humans and zombies!
I completely forgot about Crackdown. I did enjoy the demo--the super-cybercop and over-the-top action aspect was appealing--but I've heard some people say it's GTA Lite and you end up running out of missions and things to do. Fair comparison or filthy, scandalous lies? Co-op could be a plus--is there a 2-player versus mode by chance?
Now that sounds like a thing of beauty.

These two would tie you over for quite some time.
Best Zombie game, and best boxing game...can't lose imo.;-)
Haha, just kidding. Stay the flying FUCK away from that game. I see you don't have Gears, nor did you list it as a game you want. Any reason for that?
The co-op is splitscreen local only, but it's a really good time. I have a friend over from time to time for some gaming and we usually break out that game. Then we end up laying more waste to the city than the aliens. ;-)

Oh Sonic I had such high hopes

That's what I'm hearing. I had high hopes, but I'm thinking this might be a used purchase later this year or early '08. Again, I loved Riddick, but if I pick up the Darkness and blow through it in a day or two, I'd be bummed.
Actually, I do own Gears and forgot to put it on the list, probably because I haven't played it in months. The group I was playing with on Live disbanded due to travel and work projects this summer, but we might get back into it this fall. I've heard the recent update actually makes the Lancer useful now and that the games don't devolve into shotgun frag fests as much.

I picked up The Darkness for PS3 and I'm enjoying it so far, can't comment on the length yet cause I'm only a couple hours in. It's pretty amazing so far. And for the record Gears can also be beaten in like 6 or 7 hours.

I can see how you would run out of missions pretty fast. You have 7 gangs to destroy. Each has a number of generals. There are a few races to do.
For me though that's a good thing. GTA dragged on way too much for me.
Now...regarding Dead Rising. I loved it, but you HAVE to be able to live with the save system. After a while, it got to me and I missed a key event and couldn't continue. If you can live with it, get it.
Plus, whenever you restart, you keep all your character upgrades, so starting over is the best thing you can do if you get stuck. It's a fairly short game from start to end, and it's built for replays.
I really was looking forward to it. I wouldnt have minded if it was just Sonic Adventure 3, even.
Okay, that doesn't sound too bad. I guess I wasn't understanding the fact that the game was designed for replays and that you could start over with all of your upgrades/stats. That actually sounds pretty cool.
