Dremel Help

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge concerning Dremel Tools?

I have one, but am thinking of getting this: http://www.houseoftools.com/product.htm?pid=201860

I'm wondering if I will be able to put a regular engraving bit into it to make consistant lines about 1/8" deep in a wood plank.

I'm thinking of using this because it would (hopefully) be more stable and consistant because of the depth guide.

Are you going to be doing this a lot? A router + table is going to be a HELL of a lot easier than dealing with a dremel and guide for consistent 1/8" deep lines in a wood plank. Unless you're looking at very fine linework (in which case I'd still think a router would make your job easier).

I have a standard dremel and have looked at some of the "high speed saw" variants out there, both by dremel and rotozip. between the two, I think this guy is more useful for serious work.

What kind of project is this? Might help if we knew if this was a one-time thing, like a mod, or more serious work that you could see yourself doing a lot of.

I've got the Rotozip Egg linked to; it's really good at what it does but if you're looking for really straight lines, you'd better make a great guide or (preferably) just go with the router table suggestion. The Rotozip (or any rotary saw) will jump around quite a bit on you until you really learn how to use it.

Yeah Ronnie, good point. I've tried to use a guide with my Dremel and, well hell, the OP has one, he knows that they do not like going in a straight line. Routers are able to get away with it due to lower speeds and higher torque (and a body shape that requires you hold them with both hands!).

There are a few projects I've got in mind that involve cutouts and it kind of sucks that my only options are table saw, router & table, or jigsaw. And each does a different job. I just need the fistful of benjamins to buy 'em all :\

What I'm doing is etching lines in an Axis and Allies board I'm making. So I'll be outlining all the countries boarders and sea boarders into a 2' x 3'-6" x 1/2" piece of wood. I need something that can be moved around easily and will also keep a constant depth.

I've also found this <Link> which is a lot less expensive and will fit on the end of the dremel I already have. So I'm kind of leaning towards that.

If this is a one-time board, I'd suggest that. Make good guides and hold tight so the dremel doesn't scoot around.

I have one of those. It's good enough for one-time jobs.
