To be fair, I'm pretty sure Rockstar don't expect you to keep going back and back spending near 30 hours to beat an achievement. 30 hours is probably quite substantial to complete it in as long as you don't do some serious fucking around. I'm willing to bet a quite a few people get this their first playthrough without trying.
This is true. It may be something where if you go into the game trying to finish it quickly, it'll be no problem to get the achievement.
I wouldn't be surprised to see speed run videos of GTAIV in under eight or ten hours some day. Will that mean it's a short game? No. It just means highly skilled speed runs are fucking insane.
Have you see nthe 8 minute Morrowind run. Im not even kidding.
Speedruns, or even let's plays are no indication of a games length at all.
You can beat GTAIII in 15 minutes. After the intro, face the TV and say "I repent my life of sin" and turn it off. Voila!
Of course, there are also achievements like "complete the first mission," right? So something being an achievement isn't necessarily indicative of any challenge level. I'm just going to figure we have almost no idea how long the main story is compared to other GTAs. That said, I'm sure I'll be satisfied with the game's length, considering I always spend more time in GTA games not doing the story missions than doing the story missions.
Plus, there will probably be 10x more fucking around with the new battle/shooting/aiming system and sick cars with sick trick points.
what I find interesting is that VC is only 30 min longer than GTA3, but SA is 5 and a half hours longer than VC. If Rockstar can keep this increase going, I could see GTA4 being a 15 hour minimum game.
Regardless of how long the game takes I can guarentee I will have 3 or 4 hundred hours logged, but will still never beat it. That's just the way I roll.
lol, wow. Some people freak out when I throw out 8 hours. GTA III and Vice City are easy under 8 hours. San Andreas is speed run style only. I thought that would probably be a given, should have been more clear
Well, I admit defeat when it comes down to technically whittling the games to ~2, ~3, and ~8 hours of gameplay. But it's still a terrible metric, not unlike saying your 2-hr DVD is in fact only fifteen minutes of entertainment because you ran the entire thing on 8x fast-forward from start to finish, and cut out the opening credits as well.
Currently playing The Godfather for about the first time in a year.
I'm sure GTA4's aiming system will be great, but if it isn't, it can definitely learn a thing or two from Godfather's system for the next game.
I'd say if they haven't learned anything about the controls by now, there's not a great deal of hope that it'll get better.
It does look like they have learned, though.

Godfather on the Wii was fucking awesome, just in case you guys didn't know already. It had the cool character creation system and the waggle actually made the combat really fun. Directly controlling the kinds of punches and stuff was super tight like prom night, ha ha.

That's some odd logic.

I just noticed that Niko's hair sees some graphical improvements over since he first trailer. In the very first one, it is a solid piece of hair, looking a lot like a wig. In the later ones, it seems to have some sort of hair shader effect going on.
It's from the trailer. Some guys are around Niko with guns:
'You're either in, or you're dead'
'Alright... Im in!'
Also, mocapping is motion capture, recording animations from people directly, though I know thats not what you were asking just thought Id be thorough.

I forgot all about the other trailers.
That one is far better edited, it feels like you are running right into the story but you just don't quite know what the story is about other than shit is going down.

That's just the alternate ending.

Fucking truth. I still play it regularly.
I just want to know why they call you revolver.
And how many shots to the extremities a civilian can take before they expire.

Plus, they basically say that any DLC they release will be worth buying and will be impressive in content, so thats awesome.
Really like the first two shots. This game is going to be fucking great.
Well when you put it that way..
And again.
That looks like it smarts.
This is actually my least favorite of the four. I dunno why exactly, it just doesn't click with me.
And the song ruled.
Curse you weak will!
That's some odd logic.

I love the epic feel it's got going. That and the 'WHO are you WORKING for'.
Edit: And the 'I'm in'.
The mocapping for it as well
What's this?

Satans..... hints.....
It is, and a dumb way to say it
Are you meaning to say that the 30 hours is cumulative? As in, an invisible 30-hour clock starts when a mission starts and ends when the mission ends?
That would be amazing for the game's length, but I really sincerely doubt it.
Oh, I thought there was a trailer showing him actually in a line.
