I finally have the time and the money to play, so I'm in. I created my account about four days ago, so I'm already pretty well set up. Have a few million in the bank, and I'm about to buy an Osprey to try out some zero-sec mining. I'll probably fly down to Merch headquarters later tonight to see if I can join up and help with the industrial part of Merch Industrial. Character name is Webb Mordock.
New guys: i recommend you finish the tutorial and run a few missions to get the hang of navigation, flight, and combat. The OP has instructions on joining our in-game corp.
Head down to Hosh for a few days. 0.1 security will prepare you for operating in 0.0.
Train the informorph psychology and salvaging skills, maybe destroyers, before heading out to 0.0. A destroyer with salvagers can make you lots of money quick. Check the Merchi forums, we have lots of plans for getting you started.
Be nice to the spies. I wouldn't be surprised at all if some spies in goonfleet became mains.
Seriosuly, I'm not a damn spy. My account has been inactive for a few months cause I couldn't afford WoW or EvE. Now I can afford them again, I am itching to play them again.

We've just spent an hour trying to kill a single ship. He's in a vagabond going 10.3km/s, it's ridiculous. It'll be great if we can pod him, especially since he's been smacking in local for a while about how we're bad.
I've been using the trial for a few days now, and I want to keep playing afterwards. I'm going to finish the tutorial missions now, but I'd like to join Merch once I've finished them. Just giving you guys a heads up - my character is Menrithal Rinsk.
I sent a request to join last night, and nothing has happened yet. Is there anyone that I need to speak to? Just sitting in Mista right now, waiting to be accepted before I head down to Goonspace.

Khanid Mk II has come though on the test server. As well as a skill called "industrial capital ships" and faction drones that do 2 types of damage[same total amount though]
I been gone from the game a long time, me and my friend were trying to come back to Merch but he got rejected. I figured posting here we would at least find out why. I read his application and he even mentioned that he used to be in the corp (He joined for a while because of me) But he totally got the run around and then the door slammed in his face. Anyone we could talk to about this?

We had two, the momentum of a ship that fast carried him out of scram range before an inty could get over to tackle, it was pretty ridiculous.
I tried the trial. This game is easily one of the most complicated games I've seen in a while. I'm sure it's not nearly as bad as it seems, but teh tutorials really don't explain things well enough, especially for producing items (Through blueprints).
It sure as hell didn't help that the tutorial is obviously based on an older client, because the window (As the tutorial showed it) didn't match the version of the screen I was seeing, which made it impossible to follow it's directions, due to not having all buttons it was telling me to press.
Not to mention the ridiculous time it takes to upgrade skills. 9 days to raise my repair skill? What the fuck?
The more advanced the skill is, the longer it takes to raise it but the good part is skills train in realtime. You don't need to be logged in for it to keep training. Learning skills will help speed the process up. They raise your attributes which help speed up learning time for the related skills.
The tutorials pretty much suck but are necessary. It seems overwhelming at first but you'll start getting the hang of things pretty quick once you've gotten the basics down.

It's more important for a game to be open and relatively easy to get into, rather than be extremely in-depth and be confusing as shit to understand. They could at least update the tutorials more, so that they aren't obviously from an outdated version of the game. =P

The current tutorial isn't too bad. You end up getting a new ship, some stuff to outfit it and skill books. When I tried EVE last summer you had to set aside a good hour or so just to finish it
The tutorial's not horrible, but it doesn't equip you to really play the game either. It shows you basic navigation and how to run missions and mine; that's about it. It teaches you how to train skills, but it doesn't give you any context for how to train them, which makes that part of it almost worthless. The rookie help channel is completely fucking worthless, because they don't moderate it at all and there's usually about a thousand people in there.
What taught me the most, honestly, was tooling around the market. I spent a fair amount of time looking at ships, because ships are shiny, and from there I branched into reading about required skills, fitting, etc. I learned more the game that way (and deciphered more of the acronyms people use) that way than I did in the tutorial.
And still, basically any time I'm warping somewhere, I have the market open and I'm looking at the requirements or stats of one thing or another.
Eat it You Nasty Pig. on

Thing that helped me the most when I started up last summer, closing the piece of shit rookie help channel and join the Pennyarcade channel (or even better, get into merch and come fag up our corp channels). Folk there are usually pretty nice and about a billion times more hepful than anything else. It's nice cause there are a lot of people there that have played for a while and know a lot about the game. Hell, I've been in for almost a year and still feel like retard and will ask retarded/noobish questions in corp fairly regularly.

I don't think I even got that far. It was rather silly of me, really, but it was jsut as sad that no one could help me out either.
I couldn't get past manufacturing the blueprint for a prototype engine/whatever the hell that you get very early on, because the tutorial and a player in the help channel, told me that I needed to press a button that didn't exist.
Player: Are you in the Science and Industry screen?
Me: Yeah.
Player: Hit the Find Job button.
Me: *searches* Uh... I don't think I have that button.
Player: Uh...I don't know what to tell you.
At this point, I decided I was done. Once the trial runs out, I can avoid paying the monthly fee and just hit my head on the wall for free for the same end result.
I recently rolled a new production alt and went through the new tutorial (it changed since I last did it a year ago). Anywho, the part of the turtorial that has you do some research, you actually need to go to a station that has research slots open (you can search the region since the station your at doesn't have any). I believe I had to jump like 7-8 systems to get to a station with the correect open slot. Hope that might help a little with that problem (I'm still not extremely familiar with the whole research system in game (yes... I'm a 1-year noob and proud of it)).

Oh man, that part was terrible. It gives absolutely no help either.
Tutorial: "Now just choose an open 'invent' line!"
Me: "OK..." *click* "uh...none found...."
So many people are getting stuck on that. I got lucky and figured out that you can view stuff from the whole region if you do it right, but I imagine a lot of people quit right there.

Or you could just say "fuck research" and go do something more fun. I think one of the problems with the current tutorial is that it tries to teach you a little bit of everything and ultimately ends up teaching you practically nothing about the game.
The core tutorial should just be mining, shooting, refining, buying and selling because those are the most fundamental skills that most new players need. If you then want to get into research, there should be an optional tutorial for it.
Seriously, ignore the tutorial, I've never done it. I've never done any research either, but then I don't need to do any research. Most people who play EVE don't know how every single game mechanic works. I've found myself teaching older, more experienced players about stuff before simply because it's something they've never needed to do up until that point.
The only thing the tutorial really seems to be good for is getting your first bit of cash. Oh! An implant! Big whoops! Just go run some level 1 missions and you'll be wading in crappy +1 implants in no time. Better yet, join MerchI and I'll give you the crappy +1 implants I keep getting for running level 1 missions, because despite being a 4 year old character, I never did the tutorials and I've only just started doing missions.
The game is big. If something annoys or confuses you, ignore it. Go do something else. Join a corp and there will be someone else who loves that shit who can do it for you (or teach you in suitable detail how it actually works).
Man industrial capital ships are awesomely worthless to train thus far. Exhumers 5? WTF? After Mining Barge 5, Astrogeology 5 etc.
Unless they are amazing, fuck that noise especially when I'm already training racial BS 5.
Already got up to Exhumers 3 on my capital char, how convenient
Everyone has Exhumers 3. The point is unless this ship is amazing, I'm pretty sure it takes longer to get to by quite a bit then a carrier which is going to be the thing it's compared to the most.
I'm fairly new to Eve - been playing almost a month now ("Major Theef" in game as well) - and brand new to posting on PA...although I've been reading the forums and comics here for years off and on. My main - and only - character so far is a Minmatar prospector/tinkerer/miner/industrial type with a little over 1,000,000 skill points...and not much else. I like the sound of MERCHI, if you'll have me of course, and plan on making my way over to Mista in the near future to put my name in the hat. My wife also plays some - lucky me! - and she's more of a PvP'er than me.
Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself and say "Hello."
Well, I dropped into Mista last night and submitted my application to MERCHI. As part of my narrative, I mentioned that I'm active-duty military (i.e. good teamplayer, willing to help out however needed, blah, blah, blah), and it got me wondering if anyone else in MERCHI - or throughout EvE itself - is in the military. I'm sure there are, because EvE seems built on an inherently hierarchical military rank-type system, but I'm just curious as to how common it is to find actualy military folks playing the game.
Anyway, I hope my application is considered favorably. Either way, thanks for the opportunity.

Alright, Minmatar Sebiestor named Kairik. I already know the basics, should I finish the tutorial for money or just go straight to Mista?

If I can ever get out of this lagging hell hole the map calls Jita, I'll come apply. 780 people in local, jeeeesus.
This suits my lifestyle waaaaay better than WoW does, though I'll probably keep playing both. Been waiting for a good space MMO forever.
Looking forward to hanging out with other fruit fuckers.
