Could Punch Out!! really get away these with the blatant stereotyping and racism that gives the game its charm?

I doubt it. I'm betting A Boy and His Blob or Super Dodge Ball will get revived.

...Dammit, now I really want a Super Dodge Ball revival.

I tried out Earthbound some years ago. Just a couple of hours, but I remember that the game did leave an impression on me. I had no idea of a cult following and the only thing I knew about it beforehand was a relatively negative review I read ages ago, so I didn´t have any expectations. I thought I was probably the only person in the world who saw something intriguing and special in that game. It did seem like one of those games that are more than a sum of its parts. The whole series in a DS pack would be something I´d definitely buy, and I´m not a part of the fan base.

I might be wrong, but my impression is that Earthbound didn´t actually sell horribly bad in USA. The problem, AFAIK, was that Nintendo had too much expectations, took a huge first print run, and lost a ton of money when the game ended up selling just a reasonable amount and plenty of cartridges were left over.

The only game I've ever played because of the god damn box.

Gah... this thread was killed by off-topic banter :(

I've got a question, though. In regards to all that talk about EBSiege donors knowing about some secret project/plan/something... the secret wasn't the Earthbound Anthology, was it? Is it something that's still a secret?

the fact that the community was passionate enough to put something together like this and see it to its completion really make me believe that Nintendo won't be able to ignore them for long. it might not be tomorrow, or even this year, but they'll have to bring Mother 3 here eventually.

    Oh, the Starmen.net thing

See, I heard about this awhile ago. I thought somone had stealthed announced a Wii/DS Mother Anthology including all three games. Getting my hopes up.

Still those active in the Mother/Earthbound fan community need to keep their hopes up. I'm pretty sure we'll get Mother 3 eventually.

This is the order of events as I see them.

Right around the time smash comes out, Earthbound will hit VC.

It will do so well that a few months after they'll throw Mother on the VC.

Then a bit after, they'll announce a Mother 3 release, either a limited internet only print run of the game for the GBA or an almost untouched DS port.

If the rumors of Lucas replacing Ness are true for Brawl, then Mother 3 not coming to the US at this point is pretty much a pile of horseshit. But then again, we never had a Fire Emblem game and look at Melee. Not too long after that, Fire Emblem started coming out, and it was a hit.

Still though. There seems to be no real point in having Earthbound related characters and items in a game that's going to be a huge hit in the US with no intentions of letting you see where the character came from. Or at least their series.

What happened after they sent out the book?

    Nothing.

    Nada.

No one that received one mentioned it, as far as I know.

I imagine Nintendo unwrapped it and handed it to Reggie when he ran out of toilet paper.

It's good to know that Earthbound/Mother fans donated more than $6000 to be ignored. Because it's one thing to just keep being ignored. It's another thing to pay them to ignore you.

Doesn't really bother me, in the end. Cost me 5$. And it is an artistic statement. But oh well.

According to one of the guys over at that Starmen site, the further updates on the Smash Bros Brawl website will actually spoil Mother 3 for you, which is why they are trying to finish their translation project before Brawl comes out so the game won't be ruined for everyone that wants to play/understand it
There’s also a little bit more info we’ve caught wind of. Can’t reveal it here (and definitely wouldn’t want to…), but it basically equates to the fact that Smash Bros. Brawl is going to ABSOLUTELY, UNQUESTIONABLY spoil MOTHER 3 for EB fans who haven’t played the game yet :(

Maaaan. I mean, I can see just distributing/selling them to the megafans but going to that expense then just flushin half of 'em down the toilet... wow.

I got that worked up about this kinda stuff when I was... 12.

I would fuckin loove mother 3 or even mother 1 to hit the US but... shit. They'd have to port it to the DS and everything. I'm sure it would do well though.

Well seeing as how Ness isn't in Mother 3. No, its a real spoiler.

Also the book was sent to some people in the press, I believe IGN might've gotten a copy, and pretty sure it went to Nintendo of America and Itoi

They can't sell it because it would be illegal since there is so much copyrighted material in the book. Basically the entire book would be stealing/profiting off of the Mother franchise copyright.

    Edit:
Yesterday, Jon received the overnight delivery of the very first run of the book -- 16 copies -- and immediately zoomed over to FedEx to overnight them to our friends and contacts at places like EGM, IGN, Gamespot, Nintendo, Destructoid and more.
