Please guys, do us all a favor and try not to poke the competitive players with a stick, you really don't want them back in here messing up the good time feeling we have going.
On another note, in a floor interview today, a high ranking Nintendo rep could neither confirm nor deny Brawl being online. That is exciting, because it means that it is fairly likely that they are in fact including something special and they just don't want to spoil it.
Just watched the video again. Though short, it's really impressive. Love the way the bridge crumbles, and the Starfox level is going to be beautifully distracting.
Though there's one thing I really wanna know...
...what the hell is Wario doing with his butt?
I watched it again too. Was there music before? becasue I didnt notice it. Maybe I had my speakers on mute. But it seems like new music, and they wouldn't just makea whole new version of the music for a 15 second trailer. Cough cough
Anyone else notice the orc/moblin in the bridge of Eldin bit? Looks like it's not just the Boss dude that comes wandering in.

So I just realized that the entire sentence didn't fit as the thread title. The spelling and grammar mistake is really bugging me. I might change it to my original choice, "This is Sakurai."

Speaking of updates, because I was so gosh-darned accurate with DK being confirmed I'm going to go ahead and assume if I say Kirbys Final Smash it'll be posted.

I'm a little confused about online play. Listening to you guys, it sounds like it might not be included, but in this month's EGM, it says that online play is confirmed. Is there something I'm missing?
Edit: Not under the rumour section or anything. It has a half page thing about Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and under it is a little checklist of sorts, with "online play" checked.

I'd take EGMs news with a grain of salt. This reminds me of when they and a bunch of other groups claimed the new River City Ransom had co-op play, and most people didn't discover the truth until they actually bought the game.

Ok. Here's what we know about Smash and online.
Originally, before Sakurai was confirmed to be working on the sequel, Iwata was planning on just remaking Melee with online as a Wii launch title. After discussing it with Mr. Sakurai, they decided instead to start this epic'd out project. In one of the talks at last E3, Sakurai said that he was trying his best to implement online, but if it didn't work, it didn't work. He did mention something about maybe limiting it to 1 on 1.
So no, there has never been a solid confirmation that Brawl is online. I take this recent news as a pretty damn big hint though. If they weren't going to include online, they'd just come out and say it.

But because they still havnt said an actual Yes or No, Im inclined to believe they dont know yet and are still trying to make it work.

I love "This is Sakurai." Who else could be updating the blog?
Also, it sounds to me like the E3 reveal messed with their schedule. Here is how it went down.
*sounds of control sticks smacking and button mashing*
"HEY GUYS. STOP A SECOND. This is Sakurai. Looks like we have to post that clip that those stupid americans showed at E3. They also let DK slip through our top secret character reveals. Now I know we still have a few hours before we clock out but now I have to do a site update with all that! Oh well, looks like I'll have to hold off that Sonic announcement for tomorrow."

That's playing it safe, don't want to get your expectations up too high. We'll probably know for sure by TGS.
I'm sure that online play in some capacity has been confirmed, somewhere.
Leaderboards most likely if nothing else.
Yeah...wait, how the devil do you expect leaderboards to work...for a fighting game?
They track wins and losses.
Then I can control two controllers and rack up easy wins?
Sure, why not. :P

No, it's never been confirmed at all except for that one time two years ago before the game even started development.
That was back when brawl was a launch title.
Yeah. The said thing is we later learned that before that version was canned it was going to be Melee with online. I would have bought two copies.
No, the first plan was to ask Sakurai to do it(he hadn't even been told yet). Had he turned it down Iwata said they would probably just redo Melee. Whether or not that actually would have happened, who knows.

Based on the fact that Nintendo reps and people close to the project keep dodging the question, I'm assuming online play will not be present in Brawl.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the Japanese be asleep around the time of that update normally?
I mean, I always thought the updates were at about 8am for them.
I want an assist trophy of the 8/16-bit version of the character holding the trophy. So a little 8-bit mario or Samus, or Captain Falcon's car-ship-thing, or some other thing.

That can't be true. They're at 9am for me. Looking at Wiki about time zones, I'd say that they come at about 5pm. May be off by an hour, because I don't know whether they have daylights saving time in Japan.
I've gathered a bunch of "... confirmed for brawl!" jokes, and put them up on my VERY, VERY BASIC website. I was curious, before I try and "whore" out my site like a little slut, if anyone would actually want to read them?
