Guys, I could use a little advice. I'm a little torn right now, as I was never really planning on getting an X-box 360, but now two games I want to get, Eternal Sonata, and Blue Dragon, are coming out for it, and i'm not sure. Are two games worth a whole system?

No, but not to worry. There's plenty of other reasons to get a 360. ;-)
No. Two games aren't a good reason to buy a system.
However, I'm sure that there are other games you would enjoy on the 360.
In any case, when you are budgeting for the system, make sure you add in the price of an extended warranty. It will save you hassle later down the track.

Seriously!
The question with a 360 is not "Will it break?", but "How many times will it break?" and "When will it break next time?".
While I'm still in my first year, the replacement Xbox I received ALREADY has problem reading disks. I'm planning to call next week for the ext. warranty, then a few days later call them about that disk-reading issue.
I should be getting my 360 back from the repair center in a couple days. I then plan to trade it in for a Wii. I have only had my 360 for half a year, with normal use.
What's the deal with the new 360 that's supposed to come out? The one that is supposed to run cooler and won't explode on me?
MS won't say anything because no one is going to buy one thats going to break when they know a new, non-busted version is coming soon.
Eventually they will run out of refurb 360s and will have to ship us the new ones. That's another reason to take the extended warranty. After your Xth breakdown, they WILL give you a new system.

I heard all they were doing was using an extra big glob of heat absorbing goop.
You know, I just realised... in over 20 years of gaming, the 360 is the only system that ever broke on me. From the Intellivision 2 to the Gamecube, they all held up fine and still work today (except maybe the Int2 which my mom sold in a garage sale (I still wake up at nights sobbing like a little girl)).
I heard all they were doing was using an extra big glob of heat absorbing goop.
I heard that they're coating the insides with moon rocks.
I heard... Fuck.
Anyway, get the damn 360 already, there's not much of a reason not to own one, especially if you're into online multiplayer gaming. The 360 currently represents the epitome of my console gaming, I love it to hell.
But, if you're into JRPGs... Maybe you should hold out for the Playstation 3 or the Wii, Sony and Nintendo systems usually have better JRPGs, with their japanese roots and all.
And please, I don't own either the PS3 or the Wii, only the Xbox 360, so I am not trying to start a console war here, just giving this man some sincere advice.
The 360 is a very nice system with some great games and a ton of promising games in the future. Surprisingly enough, I'd say it currently has a more promising lineup of RPGs than the Wii & PS3 as it has Blue Dragon & Bioshock coming out in August and Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey, and Mass Effect scheduled to come out later this year with various other RPGs planned for next year.
In the end, the Wii will probably end up with the most RPGs of the three systems if only for the fact that it looks like it'll be the best selling system worldwide (plus it's thrashing the competition in Japan which is where most console RPGs are made). I'm guessing that the PS3 will end up sharing most of its RPGs with the 360 due to its lethargic sales; e.g. I'll be shocked if Square-Enix doesn't decide to make FF13 a multiplatform game before the year is up. The PS3 is not a bad choice as it has its share of fun exclusives (and if you really want a Blu-Ray player, it's a great deal), but I think the 360 has the better library now and most likely in the future.
If you do get a 360, be sure to check out XBLA. I'm primarily an RPG player myself, but I've found a ton of enjoyment at a low price out of the various games you can download from XBLA. I've gotten more entertainment out of games like Pacman: Championship Edition, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Heavy Weapon, Lumines Live (okay, not so low price there) than I have from most full priced retail games.
If you want one, can afford the machine, Xbox Live service, an extended warranty, and a game or two right now, all lights are green. I'm looking forward to picking one up sometime, that is a damn fine library of games.
Edit: Do not forget the bolded part. This is important.

Pick one up. This year and next year are seeing the release of some of the best games the 360 has to offer. Don't be put off by the red ring of death thing though I bought mine in december and it hasn't died on me yet. 8-)
ive had one since launch, only had to replace it once. there are so many good games out already, and so many more coming, along with the ps3 exclusives coming over.
hell, just this week there were 3 games released that i know i'll be buying.
I run my 360 about 7 hours a day and have owned it for over a year with no problems. Get the console and the extended warranty just incase you do by a crap console. The games and xbox live are great.
No. Two games aren't a good reason to buy a system.
I have a rule of three: If there are 3 exclusive games that I absolutely must have I will (eventually) break down and buy the console. It has worked out pretty well because it is not unusual for me to put most of my play time into just a handful of games.
i am also considering getting the 360 over the ps3 but the 30% or whatever failure rate has me turned off by a lot.
i've never had a console brick or scratch a disc, never ever ever.
I would give the PS3 some more time before I jump on it. The XBox 360 was all roses and sunshine for the first year too. I plan on using the PC platform as my backup when my box commits seppuku.

The entire breaking of 360 consoles is such a terrible thing amplified by the fact that it is a good fucking system. XBLA is pure fun, multiplayer is top notch, achievements are addictive, ect.
That being said, it feels like the 360's tendency to break is about to come to a head; this may be because my 360 just red ringed last week, but tons more media stories are coming out about it, and people are starting to get deservingly pissed off.
This won't end without a class action lawsuit or a recall of the faulty hardware.
And again, it's such a shame because my 360 gets about 90 percent of my gaming time. And then my watching video/DVDs time, music, ect. I hate to say it, but the 360 is doomed to failure unless Microsoft admits that they fucked up and have fixed the problem. Once word gets out about the faulty hardware to Johnny Walmart, it'll all be over.

For a while, I've been thinking about trying to stay behind a console generation and save some money. I'm not in some terrible financial bind, but I'm starting to feel like I should be spending less money on games. I just might stick with the Wii for the rest of this console generation, and pick up a 360 at the next turn. That way, I'll get a generation's leap in graphics, and come home with a lot of good games on the cheap.
Now all I need to do is keep to a media blackout on the next gen systems when they get announced. Or something.
Im a proud owner of 2 xbox 360's. Why? Well me and my brother bought one at release and he moved out and left it. I am a frequent xbox live player. Been playin since released. I have never liked non-multiplayer on any console so i dont understand the ype of other consoles because 1 player is.....dull for me. I need co-op online or just multiplayer mayhem like SHADOWRUN. Many people are saying the 360 has faults and other things but i have never seen the red ring of light and i know its not 30% and its an easy problem to fix. Its just because the welds on the chip arent good. Secondly, Xbox live is the biggest multiplayer any console has ever seen. And last, other consoles are also experiencing flaws...what console hasn't?
.......Whats so god about PS3? The tilt cntroller was available on the PS1. And the fact that theyu devote like 20 times more memory to graphics just makes it impossible for many companies to produce games for it and for the big companies that can afford it wont want to because for 1/3rd the price they can produce a similar product on a different console.
The WII may be a good console to go with above the 360 for a couple reasons:
1- fun
2- reliabilty
360:
1- xbox live
2- more games than WII and ps3
3- red ring of death to brag to freinds about with 1 year warranty lol

its easy to prevent and fix!
CAUSE: The welds on the chip were not correctly done.
PREVENTION: Allow your box to run for a couple hours every now and then (once every few days) even if you are not playing at the moment. You will notice that no gamer who gamed frequently (8 hours a day) has had any problems.
FIX: Wrap the box in towels and allow to run for 30 minutes. Then you unwrap, turn off and turn back on. Wala
Now use the prevention tips.

The towel fix is only temporary and will eventually permanently destroy your console, and running your box for 8 hours a day will only hasten its inevitable demise. The only real fix is to remove the x-clamp from the motherboard and secure the heatsink with screws and washers instead.
If this fix isn't implemented in all XBoxes manufactured after 2008 then MS is well and truly fucked and I'll be selling mine while I can still get something for it.
K FIRST OF ALL MY XBOX IS ON FROM WAKING TO SLEEP, SO ABOUT 16 HOURS A DAY AND I DO NOT GET OVER HEATING OR ANYTHING AND MY FRIEND GOT THE RING AND WE DID THIS AND HIS BOX STILL WORKS.( WE JUST WRAPPED HIS IN TOWELS FOR 30 MIN AND THEN WE HAD HIM LEAVE THE BOX ON WHEN HE WASNT PLAYING AND AFTER 2 DAYS HE JUST GAMED FREQUENTLY AND SINCE THEN NO PROBLEMS

You don't need to look too far in this forum to see stories of people with 3 broken xbox 360s.

I heard that they're coating the insides with moon rocks.
That solves overheating issues but not disc reading issues.
That'll come in handy when I play some Halos on the International Space Station.
