So i just picked up a blackjack today and it leaves me terribly confused.
though over all it is pretty rad
pros
1)keypad for texts
2) a way to set up alibis? (who... who would need this?)
3)music
4)pretty good camera for a phone
cons
no voice activated calling
i think?
I've gotten mixed answers on this one.
the official ATT announcement is that it doesn't support them.
users, microsoft, and their agent disagree.
if i figure it out I'll post, but downloadign the software from MS didn't do much, and it says it wont connect.
so Itt: discuss cell phones, what ones you have/would recommend pros/cons. that sort

I like that phone a lot, almost got it. I think the keypad buttons are all flat so it's a little difficult sometimes to txt someone. I'm pretty sure that's the only major gripe I've heard about it though.

I picked up this one from Ebay as new about a couple of weeks back (in black). I'm quite happy with it.

Fantastic for what I use it for, which is basically keeping up to date with e-mail work requests/information while I'm at client sites and on the road.
and would it then work in america?
One is being sent to me with my new service and I have 30 days to decide on it.
It's not so much thats its hard, but it's easy to slip up, if that makes sense. There's no texture so its tough to know where you are, especially if you're not fully paying attention. Other than that, I love it. I especially love the microSD card slot (I picked up a 1gb card with SD adaptor on newegg for like $6 soon after I bought it) and use bitpim (a program you can download) so I can use it to play lots of music and store some pictures and such.
Wonderful little phone.
My brother has one of those. Seems to be serving him well.
Personally, I have a Motorolla Razor (or however they spell it). Works well. Don't know if it has a good cost to functionality ratio because it was free with my cell plan.
theoretically you could import an f3c that uses cdma and that would work if your network uses cdma (which mine doesnt).
so i guess im just left to the whims of motorola, whenever they feel like letting us americans have their sweet new phones.

heres a random review, to give you an idea http://www.geardiary.com/2007/02/24/motorola-motofone-f3-review/
they retail for 20GBP, have a battery life of roughly 300 hours standby, look hell of sexy, etc etc
I've had mine for a few months now and I'm pretty satisfied with it. Do you plan on using it as a full blown smartphone? If so, the battery life absolutely sucks.
I've found several ways over at http://www.qusers.com to help minimize battery drain, and now it lasts about two days with the amount that I use it.
It's a pretty cool phone though, especially if you're a geek because you can do a lot of customization with it.

I have a plan with Verizon, and those "olol I have a network behind me" commercials with a happy Verizon customer standing in front of an army of what are assumed to be cell phone support crews are a pack of lies, even when taken in a metaphorical sense. By comparison, my network consists of a homeless guy wearing a tinfoil hat and a midget in a diving suit.
Yeah...check out their other phones under $129 on that site, though. You might find something that piques your interest.

everyone else is so excited about the iphone, i guess im just getting my phone lust sated here too heh.
I'm getting a PPC-6800 from Sprint for several reasons:
1. It's a $599 phone that is going for $288 after SERO (Sprint Employee Refferal Offer) contract
2. It's running WM6 (bleh) but none of the software is locked down (yay). You can even install Flash on this.
3. The SERO contract allows for unlimited EVDO high speed internet (almost 900 Kbps, which you can access while talking on the phone) for $30 a month with 500 mins talk time. EVDO is also practically everywhere in California, where I live.
4. It claims to have a 4hr talk time, but pretty much all reviews have tested it up to 6~7hrs.
5. Sprint has a 30 day, no questions asked return policy. This includes reverting your plan back to your old carrier.
The only problem I have with it is that CDMA phones (in the US) don't have any sort of SIM card. I'll be receiving it in the mail by Tuesday, if anyone want to know more about it, let me know.
That device is known as an i-Mate Jasjam in Australia. I haven't had any issues with it during the six months or so that I've had it. I've even gone so far as deploying them for clients to replace Blackberry implementations, and everyone has been far happier with the end result..

You just need a email address of an employee and the enterprise sales number (800-882-4030). Fortunately, a Sprint employee has volunteered the use of his email for the purposes of SERO here.
However, if you're still under contract with Sprint, you might have some difficulty trying to get your account switched over, as it's really for new accounts. If you can find a customer service rep that's sympathetic to your plight, you might get off scott free. However, in some cases, you might have to cancel your old account and pay the early termination fee, just as a warning.
Of course, my contract isn't up for another six months, so if I were to wait until then, I might be mighty tempted to go for the iphone if a new model is on the horizon.
strongly consider buying Microsoft Voice Command.
Not only does it let you make voice activated calls.... it requires NO training, uses your contact list, allows for natural commands like:
"Call John Smith at Home"
"Dial 9195551212"
"Open Internet Explorer"
"What Time is it"
etc. etc.... really is a handy piece of kit.
Let's play Mario Kart or something...
Neither.
You enter a certain email address on a certain website, and they give you a certain number to call.
I can PM you all the infor (if some one else hasn't already offered.)
I have gotten 8 or 9 other people SERO plans by this point, so I can assure you that I have the right infor to get it done.
Depending on when your contracted started, there are various ways out of the ETF.
Basically, if the terms of your contract have changed since you signed it, you can generally get out of it without a fee. Then you just switch your number over to one of those pay-as-you-go plans from a different company for a week, and then apply for a SERO plan, and port your number back afterward.
I keep it in a sena magnetflipper case with a belt clip. the magnetflipper is incredibly awesome
A little late to respond, but yes, that phone is AWESOME!
It's a bit smaller than the Razr, but so much nicer and it works wonderfully. Great signal reception, standard VZW UI, ok camera, miniSD slot for pics and mp3s.
It's also very easy to get custom ringtones on with a cheap cable off eBay. I had a bad cable initially, but my second one worked great and easily added them onto the phone.
CONS:
Keypad, as stated. The whole thing is a flat, one piece plastic except where the directional pad is at the top. There are small bumps on either side of 5 to help you blind-dial or text, but you hardly feel them. There is also a silver indented strip between each line (send-end, 1-3, 4-6, 7-9) to help as well.
It took me a month or two, but I can finally blind-text with almost no mistakes in a full 160char message.
Camera has no flash/light/anything to help it in low-light conditions. If it's not bright and sunny or every light is on in your house, it will be dark. But I hardly use the camera anymore.
Speakerphone is crackly at any more than 1/3 volume. I guess they just overpower it, but it's not too loud and sounds kinda bad when you're playing MP3s at louder volumes. Having the ability there is nice though.
Headphone jack has to plug into the charge port (which has a cover over it normally) and the charge port itself seems flimsy. I wish they would just have used a mini-USB.
Smudges, smudges, smudges. This thing is glossy, and shows every smudge and fingerprint. But most phones these days seem to be going the glossy route, so I'm guessing it's a common problem.
OVERALL:
I love the phone. It's definitely a welcome choice to the Verizon phone selection. I don't regret getting it at all outside of the fact that I was initially going to get a PDA phone. In retrospect, the PDA would have been nice, but the size of this phone trumps PDA functions. Especially since I have a blackberry for work and that would have tipped me over with 2 smartphones on the same hip.
I want:
1. Make and receive calls.
2. Mark appointments.
3. Check email in a bind.
4. Play with shit that it has.
I think you just need an email address to fill in for the form/phone call.
Like...off the card of a dude that works at a Sprint Store near you.
There are promotional email addresses too.
SERO is really open to the general public, they just don't want to advertise it that way, because it would canibalize their other sales.
Stuff about it.
