How to look after my beard.

edit: I just remembered; when I had mine I used to pay as much attention to shampoo and conditioner in the beard as I did my hair(also had long hair at the time). Don't let food or drink dry in there. If I think of more I'll let you know.
cocheseisdead already nailed the #1 beard care trick - use conditioner. People often neglect this, thus exposing the beard to soaps that dry out the hair making it rough and scratchy. Imagine if you only used body soap for the hair on top of your head? Yeah, exactly.
Everyone told me that I had to shave my neck. Sure enough, shaving the neck (up to the bottom of your jaw) makes the difference between "scraggly mess on a guy who just hasn't shaved" and "looks like a beard."

Bingo, there's nothing worse than a neckbeard, seriously. Also, when I was sporting a beard, all I needed was to shampoo it and use a pair of clippers and it looked fine, just to reiterate what you've heard already
I use a beard trimmer easier to maintain length uniformly rather then clippers. Everyone elses advice is solid, also milk is your enemy, you may drink it fine right now, but trust me when you get a beard milk is your Monarch avoid it if possible!

Taco Bell does win the franchise war according to the tome of knowledge that is Demolition Man. However, I've watched Demolition Man more then a few times and never once did I see WoW. In conclusion Taco Bell has more lasting power then WoW.
I'm also pretty new to the whole beard thing, having only had one for six months or so, and I want to find a way to trim it pretty close, so it's more scruff than beard. I'm pretty hairy, and for what I want a number 1 guard isn't really working for me (not quite close enough). Is there any trimmer designed specifically for such a purpose or maybe a specific technique that I should try out when trimming?
Found these on a quick google search, I believe I use a norelco beard trimmer cost me like 20 bucks it does a decent job at my beard and helps keep my sideburns in check.

I just use hair clippers without any guard. Leaves me with a face like Bruce Willis at the end of die hard. No beard, per say, but noticeable scruff giving me some much needed shading on my pale face.
I'll use a mach3 to clean up the edges/neck.
Gonna look for something battery-powered/rechargeable though. Bustin' those clippers out is a major hassle.

I just run a beard trimmer across my face. Actually putting the trimmer to my face gets a pretty close trim, but leaves me with a nice level of gruff.
